Okay so... used my legit Ys I disc from the Ys I&II Complete set... dragged over the exe from ysc0107.zip, applied both english patches and the alternate ost patches... Now, Ys2 runs just fine, I start a new game, it plays the opening fine, and starts the game fine. Ys1, however, shows nothing but a blank screen upon starting a new game, although the audio from the opening video plays, there is no visual. Opening task manager shows the program as "Not responding", and waiting until the end of the video doesn't start the game normally, it just sits there at a black screen. I've never had issues with this before, hah, so I am HIGHLY confused what could be causing it now. ;_; Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Someone else (perhaps multiple people) experienced this before. I think you would find what you seek by taking a look in the first three Ys sections (General Ys Discussion, Ys I, Ys II).
Good luck. Sorry I can't be of greater help. =/

Hmm, well I managed to find one thread about it, or rather one thread that mentioned that the game would crash on the opening if you didn't have the indeo codec, but I also went and snagged that and I'm still having this issue. ;_;

Hmm, well, as an idea, I completely uninstalled Ys1 and did a fresh install from the DVD, no patches or anything. Ran the game, and it still plays the music, no video, and doesn't continue into the game after starting a new game. Ugh. I just don't understand this at all. Edit: Ah, forgot to mention that the video itself plays fine in both Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player.

... Dang it. XD Then I really don't know what can be done. xD I'm very sorry. ... Unless you consider "reformatting your PC" a viable suggestion.

Well, I hope I am not shunned for this, I can post pictures to prove that I own a legitimate copy of the game, but I went ahead and snagged a torrent... and lo and behold, it works like a charm. I do not understand... I could have sworn that on my last Windows install I used these very same discs and everything worked fine, honestly I don't even remember having a problem installing the patch either. I could just be remembering things wrong, I suppose.
