RPGs really like to have awkward enemies when the developers run out of ideas. I'm sure y'all know what I'm talking about. I'm making this thread so you can all share the ridiculous experiences as you come across something like that. Let me start this up. First Myconids, characteristic to D&D games. I mean WHAT, it's a giant blue (or red) mushroom man! Mario would be freaked out. Next up, FFV's final boss, Exdeath. What were they smoking? It's a long, disgusting tract of something that changes how it looks as you whack it. I could never figure out wth exactly I was fighting. That and you could target different body parts. Gross. Next up, Freedom from Sengoku Rance. Sadly, no screenshot. It's a giant muscular guy in colourful clothing with two huge magnets who damages you while sending magnetic waves from a weird pose. Nuff said. Finally, Ifrit from The Witcher. Why the awesome fire spirit which we all visualize either as a classic D&D genie-like figure or an awesome muscular bull from FF series turned here into some sort of glowing slime is beyond me.

Ouch, wow. That's what'd happen if you roll a Katamari Damacy in a Zombie cemetery XD

Madora killed me /dead I guess the author hates carrots or sumth.
Your talk of mermen reminded me of Rance's Squid Men, which are basically squids with hairy men legs >___>

Neo Exdeath is far far uglier than Exdeath. But then again, it's just 3 or 4 Exdeaths mashed up. One of the monster designers was Nomura, and I think it's one of his better works! Better than his actual people anyway! xD

Hey now, that mushroom man was stolen from the Japanese, who had mushroom men in 1963! I think the more recent Persona series have some unique looking bosses, sadly I have naught for pictures. Mayhaps if I think of some others, I'll present them here promptly. Thusforth I present, an enemy used in a game which I thought to be unique. Which game you pry? That shall be a secret currently....

That merman reminds me of Kukuri's "Men of sea" imagined impression.
Also, I have no idea what that picture above is.

YAY. SPOILERS!
THANKS, GUYS!!

(Not that I really care about the FFV final boss one since I've seen that before. :P)
Oh, Koudelka and Shadow Hearts had some damn creepy creatures. Too lazy to look them up though.

I'm going with Granfalloon/Legion from Castlevania SotN. Floating mass of naked bodies that scream/moan when you hit them? Comic GOLD

Hmm, whoever combined an octopus with a giant dick must've been really depraved. AND that thing's even riding a carriage of some sort. WOW.

Gentallmen/RaMen/whatever in various Tales games. How they haven't been mentioned yet is beyond me.
No pics right now, trying to find the one I had a while back...

This topic just reminded me of that ugly ugly boss in Chrono Cross. Does anyone else remember him? I think one met this mister down in the sewers below the Mansion, in the latter stages of the game. He was an ugly ugly UGLY cockroach, with all these ugly... other... growths (more cockroaches?) upon his body. D: He was so disgusting that words cannot possibly capture the levels of disgustingness. ... Ewwww. D: Anyways, I used to hate that guy so much, that I always sped through the fight, trying not to look too much, and kill real quick. Soooo... I pretty don't have a clue what he was called. And nor am I even going to attempt looking up a picture of him. Ew! Pretty sure Mara in the SMT games, like all the other SMT monsters/creatures, is based on some pre-existing world mythology. But like all other SMT creatures, it's been interpreted very liberally. -Tom Is Mara that wagon of questionable-ness??! X'D Wasn't she far prettier in Persona 2? Mara is a goddess in actual mythologies though, as ye guessed. In two, to be exact. One, methinks, in Latvian mythology, in which she was a 'mother' sort of goddess, associated with the land and nurturing(?). And the other in Hindu mythology, as the one who brings death.

Hell yeah, I remember! I'm currently playing Cross and came across him yesterday. Was a breeze - not sure he was even a boss since he was so easy and the battle theme was still Gale. So I'm already in the latter stages of the game? Not bad! xD

Another disgusting villain I was reminded of, though, recently: NORG, in Final Fantasy VIII! NORG was weird. Totally weird! (He also worked as a marker point for me for when the story itself started to totally derail and go all weird for me. X'D) But the main thing that added to the ambiance of weirdness that surrounded him, for me, were not his looks, but his speech. I mean...iF AnYONe sPEakS LikE sO, IT tOTALlY diSCOnceRtS mE. :'D Edit: I totally forgot to mention this monster the last time. I find these guys weird not because of the levels of disgustingness or something. Not at all infact! I mean, never has there been a more adorable monster~ <3 But... they look so silly! And useless! And hilarious! Aaaaand.... it's just amazing when some high level version pops up and attempts to kick your rear. Puni~! <3 And it amuses me even more that this weird bundle of adorable jelly-ness pops up in almost every game or the other. In some form or another! Soooo silly looking!

I dunno, Nu!, looks like a regular slime... But I guess nobody except the Japanese could try to give a slime some personality, which is sort of funny.
