I didn't see a thread for this and I imagined it would be right up your guy's's alley!
I picked it up earlier today after a friend drunk dialed me to explain why I need it. It's a space game for the DS, wherein you're whisked on a Outlaw Star kinda space adventure. The plot seems like it'll pick up, but the real meat here is the extreme customization.
There's something like 150 spaceship blueprints, from small agile destroyers to big carriers that send out fighters. Each ship has different statistics and an internal layout, which you fill with tetromino shaped modules. These modules are things like improved crew quarters, radar stations, extra storage holds, etc. You can eventually get a fleet of 9 ships.
Along with the hardware, you've also got NPC crew members- again, I've only played a few hours and have only snagged a couple- but you assign them to different positions within your ship. You have the usual first mate, security officer, gunner positions, but then there's stuff like head physician, nurse, lead chef, waiter, accountant, etc. It appears your fleet becomes a whole working city, and assigning the best person to the job could take some doing.
Combat is brutal, with even random encounters able to tear you up if you try to gloss past 'em. You have a gradually charging meter which determines which maneuvers you can unleash, and likewise you can see how charged your enemies are and can deduce what they might be trying. You can't simply mash attack over and over.
All in all, I really enjoy it so far, and wonder if anyone else here has picked it up and can lend a voice alongside my own incoherence?
