What are y'all looking forward to?

It seems like Street Fighter 4 with Tekken characters... Not sure I really want that, I'm already getting sick of SSFIV. TxSF will play like Tekken, so that's an instant no, too, and I hate Marvel, so that's... well, another no,
I'll probably just get BB:CS and stick with that until SF5 comes out, unless I get hooked on BB and make that my new fighting series. I'm not THAT into fighters, so I'm only going to be following one series probably.

Yeah, personally, I'm looking to get BlazBlue Continuum Shift, MvC3 and SSFIV because I haven't gotten it yet. SSFIV will be more likely sooner, because it costs less than BlazBlue will, and I've got a while to wait for MvC3.
Plus, I want to use my Gief on other opponents!

The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match is supposed to be out for XBLA (dunno 'bout PSN) sometime this summer. SNK has had a horrible track record with the net code on their XBLA/PSN games but at least Neo Geo Battle Colosseum was playable at times. Here's hoping KoF 2k2 UM is a similar improvement.
Also here's hoping KoF 2k2 UM is the Togeki Edition rebalance. Kinda daft to release a rebalance and then immediately go and release the old version again.

I've got a JR'd copy of KoF 2002 UM, and the biggest reason I want the XBLA version is because I have an arcade stick for XBox and nothing else.

That's not legit though Wyrd. I'm talking about FIGHTING games not games with fighting in them!

You know what fighting game I'm gonna not gonna buy since I already have Dissidia? Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga!!

Actually, Dissidia didn't sell all that well, I believe, but I could be wrong.
I like Dissidia though, you can have fun matches against people if you both know how to play properly. In fact, since it's in English, I like it more than I'll ever like Alternative Saga until it gets translated (if it does).

I do, I can't make sense of anything if it's Japanese. Besides, there is a story mode in the game, right? I wouldn't be getting the entirety of what I'm paying for if I played it in Japanese.
Also, unless both SnK and Ys take off and become a big success over here, I really doubt localizing Alternative Saga would be a wise decision. And even if it did get localized... eh. Why would I want to play a multiplayer version of Ys Seven if I already beat, you know, Ys Seven?

That's true, but that was only one issue, and I'm just not interested in the game in general, tbh. Not unlike SFxT here.

Well, I'm just not interested because I don't generally play games in Japanese, and can't spend the money on it, and because I'm not sure if I like the Ys SEVEN game engine yet. The reason I said it wasn't legit is because, I meant fighting game in the traditional sense Rather than something that fits certain requirements but doesn't have the main gameplay to match.

I dunno. I accept Ys vs Sora no Kiseki as a fighting game under the arena fighter subgenre. It's with a set of 3D fighting games that are kinda hard to label.
The closest example to Alternative Saga that I can think of is Power Stone 2 because of the lack of lock on. Dissidia and Naruto GC/Wii games are also close to the same style, but feature a distinct lock on mechanism that subtly changes how the game plays. In general I find arena fighters a little harder to take seriously at tournament level as they're usually plagued by imbalances and inconsistencies, but they can still be fun to play.. see Power Stone 2 in particular.

Yeah, I think of them as arena fighters as well, it's like you said though, they're hard to take seriously on the tournament level, but they're good for fun.
So I guess in a way I should've specific I'm strictly talking straightline, special move input, health bar, traditional fighters, and I suppose 3-D fighters, but not arena fighters. They're good just not what I was thinking of...
The big reason I got defensive on it is because we've already got a billion threads to talk about Ys vs SnK but I've been craving some fighting game talk because I'm legit getting into the genre, and we don't really have a place to talk about them.
I'm still scrub level, but I gotta start somewhere!

Izall good. I was only defending its honor from that Dissidia comparison - I have no beef with people who aren't into it. I mean, hell, even I can't get into EVERY Falcom game. I own Lord Monarch, for example, but just can't bring myself to play it! -Tom There's no honor lost from being compared to Dissidia, except from on this board apparently. But then, what would you say if I told you that Squeenix, so far, has put out more games I've enjoyed than Falcom has, meaning I actually like Squeenix more than I like Falcom?

From Squeenix I like Final Fantasy I from Falcom I like Ys I & II... I possibly like others, but I haven't finished any of them.

I'm still scrub level, but I gotta start somewhere! While people here tend to talk about general topics, this isn't the best place for engaging conversations on most of them. While I talk about Transformers and music games here, I go to other sites for real discussion. I'd recommend going to Shoryuken.com, checking out the beginner forums and lurking the more indepth forums if you're really getting into fighting games.

Yeah, I've tried Shoryuken, but it's a big pain to navigate, and they're dicks there.

Games should be about fun, not flaunting your invisible penis. Therefore non-tournament-level fighters are superior. Gimme some Hisoutensoku or Alternative Saga any day!

Meh SRK doesn't really teach you that much IMO. It's mostly theorycrafting about what's possible until you actually try that stuff yourself. Practice against other players (and observe how they play against each other while you're in line or whatever, Youtube doesn't really count) is the only way you'll really learn anything in the long run. If this is at an arcade, ask questions, most of the players are actually pretty nice. If this is on PS3/360...well people tend to be more dickish online in general so YMMV...also lag lol
