The "Celceta memories" Adol recovers could also just as well be him slowly discovering what Celceta did use to be: In Ys IV, an ancient city being in the middle of Celceta was nothing but legend. And Adol ends up bringing back that ancient Eldeean (I think it was from them, no? *one with foggy memory*) city. So it also could mean exactly that I suppose: Adol recovering the forgotten past of Celceta.
Also, I think Famitsu magazine likely stated this is an Ys IV remake? And 4Gamer at TGS revealed that, too, as ryougaelliot said?
Edit: Oh, about the screen scratching, yeah, I prefer to leave that function for a system that actually focuses on that, and leave my PSV screen untouched. But I'm assuming the touch-"screen" features could alternatively work by just using the touchpad on the back of the PSV?

If it involves Adol being chased around Celceta by a bunch of girls (and Dogi) who all want him even though they don't remember why and he doesn't remember who they are, I'm all for it.
Actually, the idea could be a really neat one generally. We've had the Ruins of Ancient Civilizations in so many games, throwing in some memory-related weirdness would add a nice touch and would really help set this game apart from the previous versions of IV.

Adol: Dude... Adol: Where's my sword?!
Adol: Dude, what's mine say?! Dogi: SWEET! What's mine say?! Adol: DUDE! What's mine say?!
Yay for amnesic weirdness.

I'm calling it right now: it's going to turn out that neither Ys IV games are canon. One character believes the MotS version, and someone else believes the DoY version. The point of the game will be to find out which parts of both games made the canonical story. It's so ridiculous it just might work.

Agreed. XD That does sound brilliant. I'd be all for that.

So would Eldeel be arguing with himself over whether he's evil or not? Would Karna live like a hobo for the rest of her life because she was constantly looking for a hometown that didn't actually exist and everyone thought she was crazy? Hey, if it means including both Mask and Dawn elements, I'll go with it regardless of the form it takes.

Meanwhile, Dogi will contemplate whether or not he has to crush walls ever again, and Adol will wonder whether or not Dogi will appear if he finds a secret opening in the jail cell.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Just checked the NicoNicoDouga Falcom trailer counterpart, and after the video ends, the following image shows, along with a female voice: The only thing I can read in that is... "Tonkinhouse". Tonkinhouse?! ? Wut? What do they have to do with anything? If someone understood all that's written and what the female voice says, and got a clue what's up, I'm all ears. Edit: Forgot the link -> www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm15609876

I just had an idea.
What if this really is Ys VIII as in this takes place after seven?
Something draws Adol back to Celceta and makes him lose his memory of the events of IV. Thus the restoring memories thing could be Falcom picking and choosing plot points between the two current versions of IV. It would be Ys IV with a framing story.

That Niconico "message from our sponsors" is a joke feature. You'll see people adding "This video was brought to you by Adol's harem" to the end of Ys videos, stuff like that. If this clip was uploaded by Falcom themselves, very likely they'll remove that bit.

At least it was Falcom themselves that linked to it. www.falcom.com/ysc_psvita/index.html

You'll note however that it's not found on the YouTube version. Can't watch the video here at work No access or not allowed? Because I'm sure if you worded it right, you could justify it as market research and get paid to watch it. What if this really is Ys VIII as in this takes place after seven? Then they'd be calling it Ys VIII. So far the only games without numbers have been one remake where it's obvious what it's replacing and one prequel whose title makes it obvious that it's a prequel. Why make an exception here? But why bother with a framing story when you could just remake the thing in the first place? You could incorporate the exact same idea of picking plot points in a remake without having to justify it by setting it after the 'actual' events. Of course, this is assuming that A) This amnesia thing is going around and not limited to Adol and B) that the memories of Celceta the trailer talks about means what you think it does, rather than being a flowery way of talking about discovering the secrets of yet another ancient land... or that it does mean recovering everyone's memories of Celceta but without the implication that they're remembering what they've already done.

You'll note however that it's not found on the YouTube version. Yeah, indeed. xD Gladly. I mean, I paranoidly feared for a second it could mean this remake would only contain new elements+MotS elements (to the point Tonkinhouse got credited) while avoiding DoY-only and MotSant-only contents like a plague (though I'm OK with them avoiding the latter). Hope not. I'd like to see some traces of DoY on that. And MotS. But I'm already a happy, satisfied fan eitherway. Can't watch the video here at work No access or not allowed? Because I'm sure if you worded it right, you could justify it as market research and get paid to watch it. XD I want to use that kind of excuse, too. :/

The amnesia subplot could very well be as simple as Adol arriving in Celceta and meeting the bad guy. Realizing that Adol is trouble, bad guy hits Adol upside the head and dumps him in the woods. Unfortunately for Mr. Villain, that just delayed the inevitable. Cue new game!
Personally I like this twist because it gives Adol more of a personal investment in the plot, which I thought was missing in Felghana. (What does Adol care if Dogi's old friend is a jerk? Mind you, I didn't finish the game, so I'm not judging it.)

Thanks for the translated video, Yotaka. It's even better when I understand it! And, while I have no conjectures, speculations, or theories as to how it will fit into the story, I will say that taking the cliche amnesia route will probably destroy this game in professional western reviews. I'm sure they'll put some creative spin on the old formula. . . but I'm also sure that the reviewers who love to bash JRPG stereotypes with joke reviews won't care. And every other game! Without the ability to speak, we have no evidence that Adol is even really a "nice guy." He just likes to kill shit, and the bad guys give more of a challenge than the good guys.

Oh dear... a quick look at the control card says they're experimenting with using the back touchpad to replace some button controls. Switching characters by flicking up or down and using items by flicking left? Don't know if want.

From what I gathered of the text, it seems that the rear touchpad is used for controlling your AI teammates' behaviors. The front touchpad looks like its used to have your allies concentrate their attacks on a selected enemy. This isn't really detrimental to the gameplay, in my opinion.
