Hmm, I didn't unlock Oni, I think. I only have 3 difficulties, up to a little rain cloud (I think?)
How would I do the daily challenges? Is it easy to know what the challenges are? O: O: O:
I guess every rhythm game is bare. I like dressing up my drum! He's a dog right now.
I really like using the console as a controller, although DSs feel so fragile I think I might break it sometimes, so I'm really gentle which sometimes gets me off beat.

^^; It's a tree, not a rain cloud. XD Oni is the 4th difficulty. :D You will have the utmost fun when you get it! :D And the daily challenges are ... uh ... *gets game* the one under the main game option in the menu. I think, if you fail to pass a song on a day, it'll change to another song the next day. Of course, you can just edit the DS date to play a bunch of them in a single day. XD Oh, in the dojo, the left button (red one) is to play the song for real while the right one (blue) is for practice. Once you decide to play the tune, you can't restart if you make a mistake. Getting a full combo in a daily challenge allows you to raise your rank by 2 instead of one. Raising ranks unlocks stuff too. :DDDDDDDDDDDDD Oh yeah, there are challenges in the e-mails you get too! ^^ I think they appear depending on what level of difficulty you're playing. All challenges state the level of difficulty, name of song, and what you have to do. All the important stuff is in orange text and between brackets. XD For example, the first challenge on Normal (ふつう) is to pass the Summer Festival song (the one right of the one with the 2 up arrows) with a score of 200000 and higher. On Easy (かんたん), its first challenge is to clear Anpan-man March (アンパンマンのマーチ) with a score of 50000 or more. Completing challenges ... well, you get the picture. ^^ So basically, the ways to unlock stuff are: - Getting X-number of crowns.
- Combos (if you get a certain combo, you'll receive an e-mail with a reward!)
- Raising your rank through daily challenges
- Random gifts from people
- Completing challenges from e-mail messages
I don't think the number drum hits gets you anything in this one. I can't remember. ~o~ Duh. It's passing 20 songs on Hard gets you Oni. 9_9 But, as you can see, there's lots to do! :D ENJOY!!!!!!! ONE MORE THING: www.bemanistyle.com/forum/f132/taiko-no-tatsujin-ds-unlocks-17039/

Oh, so it is just a no retakes game? Simple enough. Only in the daily challenges. ^^~ (Also! I edited my previous message to add a mess of stuff.)

I've already beaten every bamboo level track I have on Taiko no Tatsujin DS, with around ten of those being golds. Onto hard mode!
Ninja mode is stupendously difficut D:> I'll have to memorize the songs!!

But why are you playing that mode!?

Oh, I'm not playing Ninja mode, I jus tried it out because I unlocked it. I was like "Oh cool, a shuriken!" and it wasn't in my items so I thought "Difficulty?" and it wasn't there so I figured it was one of the modifiers.
And it was. A crazy one.
It just came as unexpected, that's all, but of course I won't be playing it.
The laughing lion is so lightning fast!

I think my big thing is that when I leave the scroll speed alone, I can see farther ahead into the song, and use that knowledge to plan ahead for upcoming sections. (: I guess it's just a matter of which playstyle better suits you as a player, I dunno! -Tom Playing at x1.0 is commendable because it teaches better timing, but much like playing beatmaniaIIDX one-handed the game just wasn't made with it in mind and you'll hit a wall eventually. And in this case wall is almost literal as it'll be a mass of notes that will be near-impossible to read at x1.0 ;P Funny thing is back when I played a lot of DDR I was very anti-speed mod. Then I started playing beatmaniaIIDX and speed mods became necessary.

I pretty well always expand with rhythm games, unlike Wyrd. Of course, there's nothing wrong with going back to favourites! For example, while I will regularily (nowadays about once a month) go back to Guitar Hero Metallica after I 4 or 5 starred every song on Hard (except the stupid Slayer song!!!) just to play my favourites. I don't think I'll be getting any better at that game though...
I'm glad I tried Taiko no Tatsujin DS. It will act as a breakthrough into playing more proper rhythm games on portable consoles, such as DJ Max Portable (I think I'll go for the two pack with Black Square and the one with the big name, since I can get them both at once and have a nice upgrade in difficulty), because Taiko works with 2 buttons, but I still resolve to excersize my reaction on the other fingers (so instead of always using only the 'Y' button and 'L' button I switch around, which confuses me, but will ultimately help.)
To me, rhythm games and shmups are basically the same genre. Not literally of course, but they both encourage the same type of learning. I figured this out, and now I love STGs like never before!
The thing is if you can survive each spot without dying in a shmup but not collectively, that means that you can eventually one credit the whole thing. It is the same in a shmup, but that works more song by song of course.

You should see what happens when the two are combined, and try playing Rez! Rez is pretty cool, and is basically a fusion of rhythm and shooting. -Tom Rez is just a rail-shooter (Panzer Dragoon, Star Fox, etc) with a really, really, really good soundtrack. There is no rhythm game mechanics to the game. That'd be like calling Space Invaders Extreme 2 a rhythm game.

It is more of a synesthetic experience in the form of a rail shooter.
I've played it extensively, although I've yet to complete the final stage (stuff's hard)

I skipped out on Rez until Rez HD came out. I missed the initial release and the resale prices for the PS2 game were silly high for a rail shooter. But it was worth it. Rez HD looks and sounds great. I've cleared the game and a lot of the remix tracks but have never 100%'ed a stage yet. It's one of my many XBLA games I've purchased and played for a bit, but then got distracted before I completed it.
I've let Rez reside in the music game section of the Otakon video game room all the years I was there, but I'd still never consider it a real music game. You could take any video game and replace its various sound effects with musical tones that go with the background music and effectively do what Rez and Space Invaders Extreme 2 do. They just also fudge the timing of the sound effects slightly so it goes with the beat.

Yeah, all I'm saying is that it is a music game in the sense that the music blends and creates an a/v experience that is fully entwined.

Nunuu, would you recommend me pick up the Clazziquai+Black Square 2 pack?
How much should it go for with the shipping, from Play-Asia?

Nunuu, would you recommend me pick up the Clazziquai+Black Square 2 pack? How much should it go for with the shipping, from Play-Asia? Sure~! 'Tis a good deal and the music's pretty good too (I like CE's selection more). :D HOWEVER. Be aware that Black Square has the auto-correct feature where, if you hit the wrong note, it'll still be registered as correct. Clazziquai Edition does not have it. D: Shipping, if going with EMS, should be around $20 US, I'd imagine.

That is the stupidest feature of all time! D:>
Ehh, I'll just put it at the back of my list of things to get... I don't need another rhythm game, besides.

Ehh, I'll just put it at the back of my list of things to get... I don't need another rhythm game, besides. NO. Get DJMax Portable 2! :D Ignore Fever! Stupid PM Studios did a halfassed job with the "port" (says the person that shelled out moneys to buy the game and then the limited edition CREW edition too). How DARE they take out Cherokee!? >:O And SIN too but I'm about the only person that doesn't like that tune very much so that's okei.Oh heck, maybe I should just sell you my DJ Max Fever then seeing I have 2 copies anyway. If I ever wanted to play it again, I'd just download it cuz I'm sure not opening the one from the LE. :P
