Those are fucking annoying unlock conditions.
The game already has a bunch of stupid, mind-numbing "GRIND TO UNLOCK" objectives and now this?
Thank God I don't like any of those songs. :3

I really want to get itno this, but y'know, not quite up there on the priority list considering all things.

Thank God I don't like any of those songs. :3 The 70,000 combo one is the worst. 40k ain't too bad 'cept I don't have any really decent +Auto gear to deal with accidental combo breaks. But seriously, grinding in a Korean game? who knew?

Grinding is the bane of all games.
Lord, this Trilogy patch is HUGE. Well, it doesn't help I'm downloading at 393 KB/s but still! HUGE!
I think I started about 20 minutes ago and it's not even half done! ERGH.
Haha, old chap!
I messed up the unlocked for I Want You. Was supposed to play Brand New Days or whatever on MX but ended up choosing Normal by accident. XD
Oh my! I forgot First Kiss was this tune. 'Twas one of my fave tracks from CE! I like it lots! <3 <3 <3
Whheeeeeee.

rawr every attempt I've made to patch DJ MAX Trilogy has ended in the connection getting interrupted partway in and having to restart from scratch.

Try clearing some space on your memory stick. Even if it seems like you have MORE than enough space for the patch, the PSP is very finicky sometimes, and requires, like, 4x the space it says it requires. I have no idea why this happens, I just know that it does! !?!?!? But Trilogy is for the PC! Anyway, schlagwerk, are you getting it direct from the Pentavision servers? I ended up getting mine from a Megaupload mirror. There's a few links here: www.bemanistyle.com/forum/f140/djmax-trilogy-1-25-patch-54618/I actually had 100% downloaded but the bloody Launcher just sat there for eternity afterwards so I exited it. When I booted up the game again, it tried downloading the freakin' patch AGAIN. Guh, no one's replied to my comment about I Want You not unlocking. I guess they just thought it was just a comment and not a question. XD! Oh well, hopefully, the person on YouTube can help. ^^~

I was trying to use Trilogy's patcher. Over night I tried a direct DL mirror and that was even slower and failed at some point.
I'm giving the Megaupload link a spin since it's usually fast and doesn't have connection problems.
EDIT: there. Now that was painless. Version 1.26 is out to fix more problems with the new songs, but that's small and patched without issue. Now to get used to the timing in DJ MAX again. At least until I get better Gear the timing in this game feels so freakin' early on my computer.

Guh, no one's replied to my comment about I Want You not unlocking. I guess they just thought it was just a comment and not a question. XD! Oh well, hopefully, the person on YouTube can help. ^^~ I Want You should show up on the 2nd stage. The thing is I dunno if you have to beat an MX in the 1st stage, or at all in that mode and then it remembers. On one 4K playthrough I beat an MX on the 3rd or 4th stage, but then on the next playthrough, I passed another MX on the 1st stage and I Want You was there... so I don't know if that first MX was sufficient or not. Also I see some mention that your % on the MX might affect the song unlocking or not. I got >85% on each MX for it to show up for me. I also got lucky and SSS'ed a 5K song without trying. Son of Sun is a pretty awesome song.

I got I Want You today by getting a B Rank in Ask to the Wind 4K MX in Free Mode. I don't know if the accuracy has anything to do with it though. X__x
Oooh! SSS rank. TOT~~~!!! I don't know if I've ever gotten that before though I have S and SS-ranked simple songs that had a crap ton of holds. ^^
Mehopes Son of Sun unlocks through play-count (and that the play-count isn't something insane like "Play 40,000 songs!".
Sigh. I don't believe I've ever managed a 99%+ in anything from Portable 2 onward. (I magically got 100% on one or two songs in Portable 2 after setting the game on Easy difficulty. ^^;)
I so hopelessly suck in rhythm games but I love them so much. :V

Just so you know, letter grade is completely based on score. I've done things like gotten 98% AA's on easy songs 'cause they don't have enough notes to maintain a x5 Fever. The main two things in trying to SSS a song would be +Fever and +Tech (if you're timing is bad like mine)
To me, the accuracy % is more important than the score or letter grade. Though it's gonna be a long time before I get any of the Gold discs for 100%s

The main two things in trying to SSS a song would be +Fever and +Tech (if you're timing is bad like mine) Ah, I know. ^^~ I discovered that a while back when I realized that I kept getting high ranks for songs with blobs of hold notes which meant non-stop Fevering. :D Outside of those notes though, I don't hit MAX 100% enough to maintain Fevers. 9____9 I'm still waiting to get 99% on something. :P I'm going to checkout some of the simple 4K NM tunes since I think I can upgrade some 97 and 98% on those. :3 Kind of disappointed with the note charts of the new tunes. I played Fermion and I Want You on Black Square last night and they sure are more complicated! Of course, not having a billion Auto+ made it seem harder too. XD Bleh, still wondering if I should get the LE of Hot Tunes. It's tempting but I seriously DO NOT do anything with Limited Editions other than, open them, OOOOOOOOH AND AAAAAAAAAAH at the stuff, flip through the artbook (if they have one), and then take out the game to use (assuming I don't already have the game). After that, I just stash it on the shelf and let it collect dust. But if it's a fixed version of Fever + an extra tune or two (I spotted Cherokee on it? *froths*), then maybe I'll get it and sell off/trade in Fever. On thing I find odd is that if it's aimed at the Japanese audience, why is the in-game text only in Korean and English? O_o Somewhat unrelated to the who rank and LE stuff, witness some sad Nightmare gameplay!: Ha. The URL has Ys at the end of it. ^o^ Kekekeke! Managed to 91.9% with a full combo. XD And it seems like it's most fun on 6K. Well, normal difficulty. I tried Hard on 4K and it's ... all right. Staying way from MX.

Not impressed with the song list in Pop'n PSP.
And hey, 7-button mode doesn't fry my brain!
Even more hey, I can play Extra mode songs this time around! Not that I can pass them!

Ooh, does that mean there are a lot of cutesy songs? Because those are my favorites! (: I don't find them cutesy. They're just sort of non-interesting ... for a first listen. I don't know if some of them are from older Pop'n games. The TV and Anime selection is okei but it's the standard stuff like Cruel Angel's Thesis, YOU WA SHOCK (whatever the song is supposed to be called) and stuff like that. There's also Karma from Bump of Chicken! Adventure Mode's sort of fun but I wish I could choose other characters. I'm stuck with either Mimi or Nyami. >___________>

Well if you don't like Pop'n Portable, we might be able to negotiate me taking it off of your hands for some monetary compensation <_<

Ahahaha. So I got Nyami killed in Pop'n Portable. Well, maybe not killed but just zapped and all Pop'n points taken away. XD
I had about 250 points and looked at the -300 Points trap and thought to myself, "I wonder what would happen if I moved her onto it?"
I'm so evil. >:3
So now, I'm running around the board again and trying to build up the points. I think I'll start traversing the -50 points area in the other board this time. Hopefully there, I'll find an item to convert all the damnable -300 panels into normal panels!
Edit: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Found some shoe(s) item that allows me to safely walk on those stupid energy traps!!! Also, never bothered reading the dialogue much but it turns out this other board is the World of Darkness. ^^;
Then there's Beatmania IIDX 16: Empress. I still have a lot of tunes to check out but there seems to be A LOT of old tracks too from about a billion IIDX games ago.
Unlike DJMax games, I never really feel like staying with IIDX because the things I can do in them are so limited.
I've yet to figure out a good way to hit a button and the turn-table at the same time because my fingers aren't long enough to do something like an index-finger-on-butt-pinky-on-table stretch successfully.
There's also the problem that my fingering on the keys are typically fixed so when chords + scratch start coming, I start missing everything. XD
How exactly do you unlock stuff in IIDX games anyway? Do I have to play the scary course modes or just regular non-Free Mode gameplay will do?
Yesterday, I got some new background from full comboing some tune in Free Mode on 5K. D:
Kind of wish the games didn't "penalize" players for sticking to wimpy 5-key.

IIDX games don't usually have a ton of songs that need to be unlocked. But EMPRESS has a nasty one that requires you to clear every song on both discs to unlock. I recommend just following the Unlock All code hereUsually unlocking a IIDX version involves repeatedly playing Standard or Expert modes and then a handful of random stuff like passing a certain Dan course or clearing all songs by an artist or pressing Select on songs whose first letters spell out 'F' 'O' 'R' 'E' 'V' 'E' 'R'... I thought that they lightened up on 5K in IIDX. First they made it a mod, so clearing a song with 5K is like beating a song with Easy turned on. Then they added in a code that lets you switch which side the 2 Auto keys are on (useful for playing 5K on 2P). And then you have the added bonus that if you play an original 5K Beatmania song that's been revived, you get to play the original 5K chart instead of the new one. I actually put in DJ TROOPERS for a bit last week and played. It's been a couple of months so my timing was ass but madrugada & the trigger of innocence are still love

Both discs? D: I ... didn't bother getting the other disc. I thought it was a soundtrack. >_>;;;;
And for 5K penalty, I just mean that your scores aren't logged and all you get is an "ASSIST CLEAR" label tacked onto the score info box thing.
Smithee, you may be able to find the Beatmania US set for a decent price on eBay. Apparently, that one is better than the newer IIDX controllers in that the keys are more clickity and bouncy or something. I can't remember.
There's complaints about the newer controller that the keys may stick after a while.

Umm.. yeah. That second disc to EMPRESS is 90% of all those old revival songs you mentioned so I figured you knew. It's kinda like a greatest hits that Konami still owns the rights to and hasn't had a major falling out with the artist disc.
And I thought the 5K mod finally recorded your score.. I guess not or S3 would have the beatmania I songs as unique entries in the score tracker.
Thoughts on the Beatmania US controller: +cheap +buttons have extra support to keep them from sticking as easily -buttons are more spongy -controller has a rounded edge along the turntable so you can't wedge it into your lap as easily -controller is lighter so it slides around way too easily at higher-level play
