It may be silly to ask but - are you sure that you collected all weapon upgrades till that moment? When I played for the first time on Nightmare (I didn't played before on any other difficulty), I accidentally missed one in Devil's Corridor. I managed to finish game and then I suddenly found out that weapon can be upgraded up to "max" level. I felt so stupid that I missed that Cleria.

As far as I'm aware, yes: it's on level 3. To be sure I got all the Cleria, I checked nunuu's walkthrough as well, and it corresponded to the amount of Cleria I collected. (Also, this is my first Ys Origin playthrough.) I got one in the beginning of the game from that one Roo after finding the first Roda Fruit in a chest. I got the second one from Rico Gemma, when he revealed he could upgrade weapons as well. I also gave my next Roda Fruit to the Roo who gave me a Topaz in return for the Thunder Skill. Aside the weapon, both skills are also at level 3. Could I have missed something? I even checked the whole game with the Mask of Eyes up to that point, as well. Also, now Im on level 28 with lv1 Boost and MP Charge Speed blessings. Let's see how it'll go. xD

.... xD Beated him on my second try this time. XD Well, sort of. I guess at some of my previous fights, I did get to take 49% of his HP away from him. But indeed not quite 50%. Why? Because the battle did get interrupted halfway as korzic had said, just now. I'd have still probably lost if I had to damage him to his death, but unfortunately the fight does get interrupted. And... yeah, the dialogue and events are identical after the fight. Disappointingly. xD Anyway! Got to cleave Yunica's Battle Axe deep into his skull. =p Mission accomplished. Below is a screenshot I took as soon as I defeated him: battle stopped and all like usual, except Yunica didn't die and Kishgal's HP is still visible. Odd how my screenshots get their lower parts "cut" off. I wonder if it's because I'm playing on Windowed mode? Now, I'll lower the settings and try to win the fight again. xD And record as promised. Also, if anyone else feels like attempting this, aside having all items up to that point, I recommend level 25 or so for this. You don't really need level 28 and SP bonuses, precisely because the battle does end halfway (even if that means the battle is still long xD). (The reason I got confused is because nunuu's guide implied otherwise, and that his dialogue changed a bit, although it doesn't.) Thanks for all the help and support, everyone!

OK, battle recorded. XD Whew!! TOUGH round... I slipped a lot in the initial parts of the battle, but later I managed to pull off things right, so it did the trick. He didn't use the dragon this time, either, but instead he put me under REALLY tough circumstances. Also, I have to say, while it's not mandatory, the Skill Charge Speed blessing is quite helpful, because it gives Yunica opportunities to strike back more often. So... anyone willing to let me know how to convert these 2 fraps pure .avi video files into something lighter and both into one video? xD I hear virtualdub is the tool for it? Or are you all fine with two 4 GB short video files each? *shot* EDIT: Nevermind, I got virtualdub, watched a tutorial, readied the video and now it's being uploaded.

Congratulations! Now you can be proud of it, you've beaten the most hard battle in the game If you don't mind to spend some time, give a try to use MeGUI for conversion.

Video below. I recommend watching it in HD: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtY3AgVZExs&fmt=18But... here's also a quicker way to view it, although it's doesn't look good this small: Also, I tried to put these on a spoiler tag, but the tag won't work. So, don't watch the video if you haven't reached the 11th floor in Yunica's route and seen this part, yet.

Out standing. Bravo! I gave up beating him on EASY after about fifteen tries. You made it look easy on Nightmare. . . . bastard.

It was a great battle. I was right to ask video, it's worth to see About tags - there are some limitations for spoiler tag because of ProBoards TOS.

Nicely done! I intend to do this on Nightmare difficulty someday, but reading your posts, it has me a bit worried. I did manage to win this fight on Normal about a week ago, but even at level 23, it was mostly luck (position of the ice blocks, whether or not he used his whirlwind attack up close, and the ice dragon not being used).

Funny how his patterns stand out so much watching someone else play against him...

You know, I realized now he does become a lot more doable once you get the "MP Charge Speed lv1" blessing. In the video I recorded, were it not for that, I wouldn't have been able to hit him around 25% of the times I did hit him. And... Yeah, luck is a bit involved at times. The dragon does cause trouble, along with all the other things, but in the last few fights I was able to avoid it at times following the steps I mentioned in one of the posts above. Funny how his patterns stand out so much watching someone else play against him... Yeah, I noticed it too, when watching my video. xD I think I should have recorded myself earlier so I could have observed better what I was doing wrong. It... might have helped. But yeah, after a few hundreds of tries (not necessarily), one will really understand exactly how he works. Although no matter how much one understands him, the battle's result is sort of always mysterious! xD It's... masochistically exciting. XD Anyway, I think anyone with all the items up to that point + some level above 20 + lv1 MP Charge Speed blessing is good to go. After these, the player only needs to master the boss' patterns. I don't know if anyone is interested, but I can share the rest I know about his patterns which I didn't yet, in case anyone would like some extra support. Lastly, I should say I found a VERY good spot to level up at, yesterday, despite the enemies giving 1 EXP each: I managed to get a level up once every 1h20min (before this it was once every 2h40min roughly). It's on the last room with respawnable enemies in the Flooded Prison. Go to the right-most side of the room, kill the 3 blue monsters, leave the room from the right, return, then repeat. Since there are no load times, I have checked and tested that this is the fastest way to level up and gather SP up to that point in the game. At least when stronger enemies already started giving only 6 or so EXP, or less. Well, guess that's all for now. Thanks for the compliments, everyone.

If I'm not wrong, there is similar battle for Hugo. If you're planning to play his scenario, could you try to win it too? Though Hugo's gameplay is considered to be easier than Yunica's one, I find it a lot more complicated because he's not suitable for close-range battles.

Sure. xD And yeah, I plan to play with everyone. On each difficulty. Then more 5 times with Yunica in her school girl uniform. But knowing my pace, it'll take a while for me to get there. Perhaps if we have any other volunteers, someone else could tackle this on Nightmare and record it in my place? Because college might slow me down.

Hugo's "unwinnable" battle is... far easier than Yunica's IMO, and, well, actually winnable. Partially because of his barrier skill. Charged barrier lets you negate two attacks. Boosted + Charged makes it 3. At the very least, I was able to do it at level 21 on Normal pretty easily, while Yunica's, even on normal, was over *very* quickly. I may have gotten up to level 22, noticed it really didn't help, and just said F it.

OK, so I finally got to Hugo's equivalent part of his route on Nightmare. And... I got really close to winning the fight on my first try at level 19 (it took a while, though), but actually won only on my second try (I gained two levels by then to make the fight quicker) at leve 21 quite easily. I think unlike with Yunica's, Hugo's fight was designed in a way it wouldn't be much different from a normal boss fight in terms of challenge. Well, anyway... I wanted to know if you really would be interested in seeing a recorded fight against him, rextor. I ask because the fight itself was incredibly simplistic and repetitive (and thus uninteresting in comparison), but if you won't mind that, then of course I'll record it for you.

If you consider it uninteresting to see then don't bother about it I'll try to do it myself sometime later. Thank you very much

I hope it's not too late, Rextor, but I recently picked Ys ORIGIN up once again, and recorded that fight. I played after a very long time, so don't mind my terrible aim and overall skill in the video. xD At least better not expect a quality fight. As you can see, the fight took quite long because Toal still has a rather big HP, but it's a fight many times more viable, even on Nightmare. The only "secret" there is is not to jump recklessly, because Toal's skill that sucks Hugo in draws Hugo nearer to him much more when Hugo is airbone. It's good to jump to dodge some of the attacks, but it has to be done wisely. Debuffing his defense near the beginning can make the fight faster too, and that attack in particular might be helpful to finish an attack chain with in order to push Toal away before he moves again. Unlike with Yunica, beating this fight with Hugo changes some of the dialogue and events momentarily. But still probably not later on. I hope this satiates the curiosity of anyone interested.

To me, neither of these two fights was a problem, but I grinded to level 24. Anything below that means they'll still be handing it to you. On LV24, the damage they do is simply not enough and you can just rampage at them ignoring whatever they do.

Ah, Nightmare. Up to Normal, LV24 characters shouldn't have any problem with that fight.
