A Mantra remake of Ys IV would have been awesome. I'll put that on my list of 'epic games that should have been made but weren't' on the shelf right next to MML3. Ah well, at least Falcom will do their own remake eventually.

Wow, tons of cool stuff and pictures on one go!  Quite surprising the game came on 5.25 floppies and was recommended to play on such lowly configurations... 286 would be the machine of choice for... Kyodai's Ancient Land of Ys :b But yeah, to speak the truth, it's hard to be actually certain about the veracity of this. Perhaps Groenegel would know something? (Awesome korean ALoY member who played Ys II Special back in the day and has been helping everyone out in this thread for many years now.) You are mistaking me for another poster... I only wish I could do more than barely decipher Korean. Regarding patched/non patched versions, this page has Ys II Special for download (hope it is OK to provide such links). Unfortunately, I do not remember if I tried installing it over the HG101 version, let alone play it to the end (for all we know, they might be the same dump). On a side note, they also have the Mantra versions of Brandish and Eiyuu Densetsu among other cool stuff. I could get the latter to work (without music though... perhaps the music files were too big to be included) but found nothing usable out of the Brandish archive  |

Oh... You weren't korean afterall?  I guess I did mistake you for someone else on that bit then... I'd have to recheck the previous pages of this thread. And hm, HG101 put the version posted here/ALoY's old portal page into their own Ys article actually, if I recall correctly. But I don't know where Seldane got his version from. I imagine it could have been that site, but who knows... Dogi is seen in some Ys V artwork with a sword at least. I think he also had one in the anime as well. So... yeah. xD He looks odd for the Dogi-of-today, but back then the freaky bit about the cover used to be only Adol.  |

That CDpia disc came with a magazine (bundle or subscription, I do not know) much later than the actual game. It is not a special "CD version", but simply, the normal game, on a CD. Legitimate or not, I believe Mantra was already long gone when this came out. I would like to say that it was released in 1999, but I do not remember for sure. Red Hairdoine: I had already seen all of that.  I thought you had, too. Regardless, it is nice to have it all in one place. This was my 7000th, and final, post. Or...? |

I was in Korea back then so I can clear up confusion here CDPia is a name of a supplementary CD came with a magazine called GamePia, published by KBS. The Ys II Special CD came with a May 1997 issue and Mantra was still in business at that time. So it was released with a permission of Mantra. Actually, there were about 4 PC game magazines then and all of them came with legitimate full games. Such trend started in late 90s and competitions among game magazines became really heated. (They are now all out of business ) Mantra went out of business shortly after it released Ys Eternal, late 1998. The CEO of the company created a new company called Aruon which now hosts Falcom games online. All games are downloaded from the website and Internet authentication (logging in to Auron website) is required to play games. They weren't able to release any new game since Falcom has stopped releasing PC games. I wonder what is going to happen with the company now |

Wow!! Thanks for the awesome info!!! So that CDPia Ys II Special is gladly what I thought it to be (or rather, to have turned out to be the same Magazine CD whose existence I had heard of). Your post definitely cleared up all doubt! And wow, I didn't know Mantra's CEO was still around doing business! That's really cool! Just googled and found their website: www.aruon.com/Hm, as far as Ys games go, I see them offering Ys: The Oath in Felghana and Ys ORIGIN. Then they have some LoH games and Xanadu NEXT. Nice stuff. Perhaps they could get into contact with the chinese who ported Zero no Kiseki to the PC? Someone could try suggesting them that. I wonder if people outside of Korea are allowed to "hire" the site's services. |

Someone already posted on that on Aruon's website; but I think the chance is low becuase the contract between Falcom and Chinese comanies was limited wihtin Chinese territories. (I even doubt that Falcom will take Chinese version to release PC version in Japan.) And yes, you can play their games outside of Korea but you need to pay for the service You can pay either hourly (about 50 cent/hr; you first need to buy their money, "Aru" in order to play hourly) or monthly (about $15). The problem is that download takes too much time outside Korea. Also you need to change some settings if your OS is Windows Vista/7. The game contents are identical as Japanese version, btw. |

You will notice that there is yellow line at the bottom of the screen. It shows remaining time you can play game; # of save slots (as it is limited to 20 slots. You can add more with purchase); hdd disc usage bar; network usage bar. They don't accept PayPal but they do accept international credit cards. |

the 3rd thing looks like some plant/herb and most of the translations say moonlight. So, I'll call it moonlight herb.
Dose that sound OK? I doubt they (the developers) would translate it any better.
