The game can also be downloaded from this thread. Somewhere.
Anyway, what Hide N' Seek says is correct, you have to go to the forest village, near the second dungeon. You will get to the wind valley. There's a boss, when you have beaten it - THEN go back to the thief village dungeon, and go to the top floor.
PS: A long time ago I found a blog....... it was one of the developers of Ys 2 special's blog. He had also worked on Ragnarok. I will post the link when I find it again.

Things really bothering me about this game: What the Bard's Flute in Ramia Village is used for... What the rings you find in the canal are used for... The significance of that circle of rocks at the very beginning of the game... Where to find the strongest sword in the game... Does anybody know anything about these? I know I said I was go to put this game to rest but I find myself still playing it every once in awhile finding stuff

There is also a Key of Destruction in the Burnedbless area that has no use in the "regular" levels.

Wow, thanks a lot! This will also surely prove to be useful in the future, I'm sure. I inspired you? xD heh, I'm honored. XD Since you did all of these, I decided to upload the screenshots I took from hidden places that you access crossing a wall and stuff. xDDD I didn't organize them in one picture like you did though. But I will sometime too. xD And also continue the game to finish this small guide (I barely began it xD). Also, cool you found the developers' room! xDDD Also, wasn't there some demon sword you said you "accidentaly" found? Also I expected this game had a few useless items. xDD Neat. Oh yeah, I also intend to do some items guide in the future. xD Many chests and stuff out there.

Thanks for these pictures too! You made fewer pictures, but they remained perfectly understandable. I wouldn't have discovered that Demon Sword. xD Definitely not. The very same here. xD I'm a game perfectionist as well. And I hope this game will be no exception, despite its size... and HUGE dungeons. To be sure I find every secret area of this game, I always run through all the walls of every place in this game. I got kinda disappointed when I cleared and checked all the walls of the 15-floored castle to discover there weren't any secrets there. Hope that doesn't happen with the more huge ones.

That's good, I really enjoyed playing different versions of Ys games. I'm a huge fan of Ys believe it or not, Ys Book I and II for the Turbo Duo is the first Ys game I ever played years ago and that game made a huge impression on me. My dad bought a Turbo Duo mistaking it for a Sega Genesis (thank god), otherwise I would have never discovered Ys. But, after years of playing, Ys Eternal Story for PS2, Ys Ark of Napishtim for PS2, Ys IV A New Theory for PS2 ect. its the classic Ys Book I and II for Duo that remains the god of all Ys games... My opinion... but, Turbo Duo Ys will always be special to me no matter what. Not just Ys too, all that classic Duo games like Bonk and Lords of Thunder I've played a lot of Ys games, Ys for nintendo which was just weird and brutal... but I beat it. I was impressed with Ys II for nintendo, that was an impressive version of Ys because it stayed true to Falcom, an impressive nintendo rpg game, i own the orginal cartridge in box with manual So, just saying I did really enjoy Ys II Special as you can tell I stopped playing just because I can't find anything anymore... but it would be cool to see you make a complete walkthrough for this game in the future definitely, Mantra heh... they could have made a gem, buts its a broken gem.... oh well, good luck Red Hairdo with your planned secret rooms and items guide that will be cool

I'm pretty sure there will never be an Ys V translation.

... and who is deuce, tomato, nightwolfe? almost sounds like ingredience for a recipe Haha xD they might be some recipe for a hacking soup Tomato and Deuce are translators. NightWolve is (was ) a hacker. Tomato did translate a few games out there. But as far as I'm concerned this person has absolutely no connection with translating Ys games. As for Deuce and NightWolve, well you might call them something like "Ys Translators Gods" or something, seriously. Deuce translated: - NES Ys III (hacked by Gideon and others) - SNES Ys IV (actually he only "sharpened" the translation of an already existing patch, and Gideon did the hacking) - SNES Ys V (translated but never hacked. Gideon was supposed to be working on this one, even though an year has passed since when the patch should have supposedly come, on February 2007. So don't expect it.) - PCEngine Ys IV (hacked by NightWolve) - Ys I.II COMPLETE (hacked amazingly by NightWolve. This one must have been pretty damn hard, it took years if memory serves right) - PC Ys VI (but a patch never came out since Konami contacted NightWolve to stop it since Ys VI was already in english for PS2 thanks to Konami) - Ys The Oath in Felghana (a patch is available only to donators. Hacked by NightWolve. Since when this patch got leaked, that "killed" NightWolve and since then he has been slowly abbandoning the hacking scene. People hope for his return. Also, the patch is at the minimum of 5 dollars. I personally ought to donate him just because he is too awesome and deserves a fortune, really) - Ys ORIGIN (translated but never hacked. NightWolve is/ was supposedly hacking this one too, but we all are unsure wether or not he already quit with hacking) Also Wyrdwad translated that Ys mini-game for the PC Zwei!! (Typing of Ys). NightWolve ripped the mini-game and hacked it. It can be downloaded alone and translated. and there's also other fan-translated Ys games. NES Ys and NES Ys II were translated and hacked by some guy whose name I don't remember right now. And as far as I know, Ys I, Ys II and Ys III for MSX were all translated by someone. FM-77 has deeper details. There, got ya covered.

- PC Ys VI (but a patch never came out since Konami contacted NightWolve to stop it since Ys VI was already in english for PS2 thanks to Konami) I believe it was some NightWolve's Asian hacker friend that was contacted by Konami, or something like that, and NightWolve played it safe by quitting the translation project. Oasis Translations translated those, as well as other MSX games. Oh yeah, I think it was like you said. Thanks for correcting me. And Oasis! Yes, that was it. xD

Heh, I was joking, I knew who they were... accept for Tomato dont know him, I think somebody by the name of david translated the nintendo Ys games, not sure but I played both of em and I know he had a webpage of it somewhere... way back in the day.
I was also around when some of the best Ys webpages disappeard, i know this one guys name, i think it was Jeremy Gilbert and he had a really good Ys webpage, it was the best Ys webpage of the day back in like 95' but I was mad at him because i asked a question for a password or something and he went and put my name on his retarded asked questions page... I emailed him asking to take it off and I didnt mean to ask the question, but he didnt remove my anme so Im glad that webpage is gone anyway, childish in my opinion... but oh well, i was an Ys fan back in the day

Yeah, some guy named David Mullen translated Ys 1-2 for Famicom. I think his work is very valuable. Ys 1 FC needs to be available in English. He obviously rules.

Uh? Released? Are you talking about Ys II Special? It's already been released... for 14 years or something.
