Hi all,
Jay here from Hudson Entertainment. I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but our company was largely responsible for the US port of Y's on the Turbo Grafx. We're currently in the process of redesigning our website to be more gamer and community friendly and we're looking to do a retrospective look at the Y's games (I'll be interviewing a key person involved in the US localization and voice over process. If you're interested in perhaps writing a piece regarding the Y's games, the storyline, and such, I'd love to hear from you. Please Private Message me you're interested.

Thanks for the support, MP83. Also, I just wanted to follow up on Rick's post regarding Y's Book 2 on mobile (he's no longer with our company). Unfortunately, Ys Book 2 will not be coming to mobile. Believe me, we'd love to do it, but Book 1 didn't perform as well in sales as we had hoped.

heh, this is cool! anyways, I would do something If I were as knowledged about Ys as so many others here... and If I had time to do stuff besides college work. The best Ys article ive read so far is the one over at Hardcore Gaming 101, i dont think I can top that. BTW, im glad about what Hudson's doing with it's site. It realy disapoints me that most, if not all other game developer sites no longer acknowledge their old works. Ive seen some great official pages for games get shrunk down to a single page or even disapear completely. But with the case of Hudson... im guessing/hoping this is a result of the recent revolution-related announcement? EDIT by MP83: Added a link to HG101 Ys article.

Hello there Jay! I'd be willing to help you out here, I just wonder -- how much text do you expect? I can go on and on about Ys and I'm not sure if you're after an essay or just a summary. Let me know.

I wish I were good with words. I think one thing that should be mentioned is a how well done the voice acting is, even by today's standards, not to mention, that a few of the voice actors, were in Transformers & GI Joe.. And, something I find interesting, is that, Ark of Napishtim, also has voice actors from Transformers(Beast Wars to be more specific). It's just a neat little connection for me, since I love Ys & Transformers.
BTW, I'd really like to see the Far East of Eden games come out here somehow, whether it be at the very least, Manji Maru for DS. But, I'd still love to play all the other games in english. I do know that Manji Maru was in the process of being translated for the US market back in the day, but, how far TTI got with it, & where all there translation stuff is now, is beyond me, but, for about 15 years now, I've been wanting some english Far East of Eden action!

Inochi: Our decision to do features on our old titles has no connection to the recent Revolution announcement. Believe it or not, it was just an odd coincidence.
Seldane: The feature can be pretty in-depth. If you want to spend a couple of hundred of words talking about the series, then break it down giving each game a few paragraphs, we can do that. We can do many formats, it’s a matter of you finding something you’re comfortable with.
ParanoiaDragon: The Tengai Makyo series is a possibility. Manji Maru for DS is definitely a strong contender for domestic release and it’s something we’re in the process of evaluating right now.

Releasing Manji Maru out here would be beautiful! I've been wanting to play that game for, I think around 13 or 14 years, when it was originally released. I'd still like to see Namida released over here for PS2, but, I'm not holding my breath.
Speaking of Ys, is there any chance at all, maybe you guys might be able to/have plans to bring the other Ys games for PS2 for an NA release? I know the ones Taito made, aren't considered the best, but if there were a way to get them as budget titles, or in a bundle, that might just do it. But I don't know if it'd be worth it, I know I'd buy them. But, Ys awareness still needs some growth for sure. Obviously, there are more people today, that know about Ys, then say, a couple years ago, with the PS2 & PSP releases of Ys 6, but, I don't know how well those other titles would do over here. Maybe if the voice acting was cut, so you don't have to hire voice actors, that would keep the price of production down, but would that be enough.
And I gotta say, Sel is probably the best person here to write anything on Ys, for sure!

I think Ys would get a really bad reputation in North America if the PS2 versions of YsIII-V got released here. Hee hee.

Konami (our parent company) now publishes and has the rights to the Ys franchise, so it's really their decision if the PS2 remakes come out or not.

I think Ys would get a really bad reputation in North America if the PS2 versions of YsIII-V got released here. Hee hee. I feel the same way, except for the Eternal games. But, I still would like to play them in english someday. If Konami could bring em, & somehow fix them up, that'd be great, but I don't see that happening. Frankly, I really want them to bring Oath over here, more then anything.

Hmm, makes me wonder, if Konami has "all" US rights to Ys games, if I understood that correctly. Then, they'd be responsible for releasing Ys Strategy for DS??

I am so glad Hudson is still around. They have given us some of the best games ever, especially on the Turbo Duo (aka Pc engine). Games like Gate of Thunder, Lords of Thunder, Bonk, etc are fantastic. Let's hope they do remakes especially of Ys and hopefully keeping the same music.

Frankly, there are 2 things I really want to see....a new Bonk, & a new Thunder game! I wouldn't mind seeing Dungeon Explorer 3 either DS or PSP, would probably be the only way we'd get them. And, when it comes to Bonk & Thunder(ooooh, I'd love a new Zonk game as well), I have no idea what Red is doing right now, so, I don't know if they'd be involved or not.

theres some talk about other hudson games here so i thought i'd throw in a bit...
Super Adventure Island II... one of my top 10 fave snes games.... what ever happened to III?? why? it'd be amazing in 3d!! or even as a handheld 2D game. heck, i'd take a portable remake or port even! i cant possibly be alone in this though (could I?) i mean, it has good music too, from the guy who did actraiser's!
and what in the world could have ever spawned the idea for Act-zero? bomberman has never looked so boring. support from japanese companies for the 360 alone astounds me to a great extent...
and to keep on topic, im pretty sure that konami no longer has the rights to any future Ys as those went to marvelous. i remember reading the news a few months ago.

Nightwolve,
I'd definitely like to talk to the guy you recommended about the Ys article. Thanks for the link, I think his review sums up what most people think of Ys Book 1 and 2.
Thanks, Jay
