I am pretty sure there is a message of some kind in there, but I'm not really able to pick it out the signal from all the noise. =[ ah don't worry about it. Its not like your going to calgary. I keep forgetting why i dont come to this board often but you do a good job of reminding me.

Seems ya are not telling the full story there yes houses are outa control there serious and yes there housing crash is comming a 5 bedroom 3 story is over 2 million actually. 1 as the us economy crashes it does inpact in the negitive fashion mentioned. However, as the us crashes and the commedities go up. anyone in the oil business up there in the black gold rush make a fortune. If you are working oil in alberta you are doing really well right now. also as the canadian dollar has gotten stronger folks on the border to the US to buy goods at 2 advantages(although calgary is probally 2 far away from the border to take advantage of this). 1. currency exchange (i remember in 2000 1usd got 1.60 cad now dollar is 1:1). 2 US goods are sold 20% cheeper even with exchange. my favorite was the $3.00 cadbury bar when it was $1 here during the same time period. now of course the price when up. Yes its nice on ebay right now, but our economy is hurting because the American money is worth less, and it means our product sells less.... The guys working in high rise buildings in oil companies are making a killing, but they make up less than 2% of the general population. The "rig pigs" have to work far up north and yes they make good money. But it quickly dissapears, and the cities where the oil sands are, happen to be VERY expensive. Most of their money ends up in there nose I am afraid. Some bring home good money, but they are run down as working oil up north is very hard work. The economy is booming here, and it is a very nice place to live. Calgary was rated as the cleanest city in the world 2006, and it is very calm here at times. I just notice it more because I've been here my whole life. The poor here are very poor, and its very hard to climb out of a slump here. Really though I am sure its like that in most cities around the world. The lure of "oil money" is a total farce though, its the whole job sector that is doing well. You start $13 an hour to work at Tim Hortons (the canadian mcdonalds of doghnuts fyi), and wearhouse staff usually start at $18 an hour. I am not surprised though as Vancouver has been through this already, and the entire province of Saskachewan is really going to hit soon.

I had heard the locals being priced out of their cities of birth. But didnt quite realize that it has become this bad. I am glad I tipped all that did work for me now. This definately explains way all those that i tipped were so thankful. I heard that the last old style arcade recently closed in calgary. Is that the case?

Yeppers. I think there is one more downtown that is part of a movie theater. Its nothing great though. We only have one more "small business ran" gaming store. I hear that Ottawa is very much like what Calgary was in the early 90's now.

Justinzero: A *2*-bedroom apartment costs over $1000? Dude, I'm paying $1400/mo for a 1-bedroom here in Fairfax, VA, and that's fairly standard! $1000/mo for a 2-bedroom would be a steal, around here... Although... I guess that's in Canadian dollars, isn't it? I'm honestly not sure how much the Canadian dollar is worth vs. the American dollar... -Tom $1 CAD = $0.99 USD Seriously.

I love Tim Horton's though. We have them (rarely) up in the northern bumpkin states. Best coffee ever, and the pastries are phenomenal!

$1 CAD = $0.99 USD Seriously. Eh, it fluctuates. I don't understand the whole currency bit. I know a crap ton of factors influence it but who determines that sort of shit? I think it's a group of people playing on the nerves of the public so whenever they spread news that "OMG! The economy's imploding!!", everyone freaks out and stops spending money. I say it's a bunch of evil underworld d00des controlling the market, making us puppets and driving things in the direction THEY want things to go! >:O Sigh. I wish we weren't so reliant on the US. Every crappy thing that has to do with imports and exports over there affects us too. :/

But from what i hear there has been a lot of migration to canada that is changing the culture out there. I am happy to say my time in calgary and banff was a great experence. My favorite was going to melissa's mis stake and remembering i was there 23 years before. It was kinda nice having a flash back from childhood. Hm, it's offtopic from the current talk here, but I confirm many people are indeed migrating to Canada. There's a friend from my class in college which really plans to move to Canada once he completes his course here. I was also thinking of doing the same in the future, but I really have tons of reasons to stay in my country, so I won't say I may be moving to Canada sometime in the future, but there still is a slight chance of it happening. They offer many advantages for the ones doing what I'm doing here, and for the ones who live where I live. ... Many stuff, but basically it has a lot to do with people who work with computers.

It is traded by investers. major non invester events that specifically effect it are: oil prices(canada is deemed 1st or 2nd biggst source of oil on any given day), canadian interest rates, US interest rates. sometimes has major fluxations over nite on news from europe/china/japan and oil that trades nonstop from sunday around 730pm est until friday 430pm est. Also like the oil, canadian currency trades on the same schedule

(As in, not much to Canada's north region.)

There isnt very much in Canada's north, because its too cold and there is nothing up there. If you look at a map you can see most of the cities are on the border.
