Hi, I was wondering if anyone in the forums plays warhammer the miniature war game. I have in 40k Space marines, Eldar, and Tyranids, and for fantasy chaos. I'm also quite good at painting but am a beginner on the battle field. Might post images if desired.
P.S. Don't mock me, I love this hobby very much and nothing you will say will change my mind.

Yeah dude were not like that. My brother was into Warhammer big time a few years ago and he kinda drifted from it. Its pretty neat, and I like how there is a ton of detailing used on all the characters. Any hobby that involves a ton of paint, patience, and ends up looking cool, is fine in my books.

I mock!
Every time I go by the RPG store (yar, we have one that sells exclusive table and card RPG stuff) at the mall, I point and laugh at the people inside!
Well, okei. No, I've never done that before. :P
But yeah, why would we mock people's hobbies? :O We are an awesome board full of awesome people who respect others' interests (of awesomeness)!

Which one did you play the original or the vengeance of the blood angels?
I can't get that far either, its a really hard game. I heard the board game was more fun in the early 90's.

The original (http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/space-hulk). I couldn't co-ordinate actions for the life of me. One time I accidentally switched to a guy with a flame thrower and ended up torching the guy in front of him. ^^;;;; I swear, the aliens never had to attack cuz the team would simply die on their own.

I was in campaign mode and was usual a one man army and I still die a lot due to the fact that the genestealers come out of nowhere in a blink of an eye or mess up in close combat controls. If I had more men I just move them in front of different tunnels and shoot insight(even thought they eventually die too). Pretty bitching game for its time but its hard to play. Have you ever played Dawn of war or Mark of Chaos.

Warhammer is a miniuture war game made by gamesworkshop in the early 80's (I think, I wasn't born yet ) around the time D&D debut except the game play is totally different since it uses normal D6 dices and theres no leveling up or quests. Instead you buy some box sets of models, builtd, paint(optional), take them to a local game store and play with other people with the models. Pretty cool huh, except the only down fall is the models are expensive so the only reasonable way to get them is threw ebay or www.chaosorc.com/ where its 25% off. You'll also need the newest release of rule books and your armies codex which is the armies references and stats. From earlier instead of leveling up, you equip your models with desired equipment and number of units from the points of book. Each number of guys counts as a point of their worth. Say your playing a game of 1000pts with another player, you should have a commander and some units with desired equipment and number of guys that equals to the amount. Sounds simple but isn't due to the fact that each army has special abilities and different tactics to counter yours like some excel at close combat, shooting, outflank, large targets, magic, fast, or tough to kill, so training is recommended to feel your troops and find out how to use them in battle. There is also different types of warhammer, Fantasy and 40k(40,000). Fantasy is more like medieval warfare where all troops line up together and charge one another, while 40k is guerrilla warfare where the troops hide behind terrain and shoot. Past or Future, Dragons or Tanks, its what you desire. Some samples of armies are Empire, Orks, Elves, Dwarves for Fantasy and Space Marines, Orks too, Eldar, Necrons, Etc. You could find out more at uk.games-workshop.com/news/ for more info. I prefer the 40k series its more badass, original, dark, and a more in depth storyline while Fantasy story reminds me too much of LOTR even though games workshop ironically makes LOTR models too . Space cruasade came around the 1st edition of 40k along with Space hulk which are board games too, thats some awesome stuff you got.

I'm a 40K man, but I have respect for Fantasy.
Don't play the miniature game, because I have no real skill in painting, nor the money to do it. But I do dabble into the Dark Heresy RPG. Intend to play the Dawn of War games sometime, too.

I really like DOW for the PC, It has a good adaption from the 40k theme, and Its fun to play. Yeah the graphics is a little outdated to todays standard strategy games but at least its cheap and has a lot of expansions and mods to increase difficulty and armies. Can't wait for DOW2 . Painting is optional, all you have to do is spray paint the models black or whatever to get into the tournaments, I just paint cause its fun for me and I want whats best for my guys . Yeah its expensive, but there are some websites that sell them a little cheaper(except CCG armory.....fuckin bastards didn't get my models till a month late ), and you don't have to play the miniature games just to love warhammer altogether . Never played Dark Heresy nor plan to, but is it fun? I just skipped threw the book to look at the pictures(I love the artwork of warhammer ) and to see if there were similarities with the wargame.

I think Dark Heresy is really really faithful to the Warhammer ideal, while at the same time expanding upon bits of fluff that simply don't get enough love. The voidborn as a playable "race", for instance, made me all tingly with joy, because you just don't hear about that in the fluff.
Have you read the Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer, or Xenology?

It would be cool if you were a Grey Knight cause they're practically the inquisitions top marines and are best at killing daemons and herectics. I like the Inquisitors cause they're kinda corrupted themselves yet they control the lives of everyone and kill anyone rumored a heretic or anyone dangerous and knows too much. Proves theres no Good or bad in the 40k universe, just ones point of view.
Whats a voidborn, is it a type of special psyker inquisitor?

Voidborn, someone who was born and lived in space all of their life.
Also, Dark Heresy isn't about OFMG OVERPOWER!!!!!, so stuff like that isn't available yet. I can't imagine they'll not release a Space Marine and equivalent suppliment soon, though.
Also, the fun thing about the Inquisition isn't that they're corrupt at all. Well, not corrupt in any impurity sense, and they're a bit factionalized, which is cool. Really, they aren't an overriding force unless things are going very bad. For the most part, the Ecclesiarchy is the real power. And even they, they rule with a fairly light habd, given how much Imperium there is to control.
Personally, I dig on the Dark Ages nature of it all. Yes, there is technology and pew pew lasers, but it's all regarded with heavy superstition. They know how to make it work, but they forgot why it works. They have only a fractured understanding of their history, and wrapped it all in mysticism because they needed some kind of answer to the basic questions so they could unify and survive.
That's why I enjoy it's fluff so much, because there is so much mental gymnastics that have resulted from the huge amount of history that has passed reaching the 41st millenium.

Thats why theres the Adeptus Mechanicus an organization on mars whose purpose is the restoration of technology but are disowned upon do to the fact they warship the omnisiah instead of the emperor, but helps the imperium with new weapons. They treat computers like spirits and gods. Computer:you've got mail! Adeptus Arbite: Oh my ommnisiah praise me....LOL The books you've recommended earlier looks interesting cause I was interested in the anatomy of some aliens, well except the orks cause I don't care for them that much.
Hey if you ever start playing DOW you wanna play online?

BELATED!
Actually, the Omnisiah is an aspect of the Emperor; the man who has surpassed his flesh. Although you are correct that the Adeptus Mechanus is really only tolerated, rather than embraced by the Ecclesiarchy. And while it is true that they are trying to restore the old tech, you are overlooking their methodology. The Adeptus Mechanus, on the whole, does not encourage experimentation or new developments; it is considered blasphemous to the machine spirits. So unless more Standard Form Templates are uncovered, they're not going to be getting anywhere soon. They aren't really restorers so much as preservers, in this sense.
Like I said, they understand how to do it, but not why it works. Which is why they don't make any real advancements. Ergo: Dark Ages.

Where do you get all this information? Surely you've read some novels,no?

Codices, mostly, and fluff guides. Depending on the edition, some of the Codices are fluff-heavy as hell. Also because GW doesn't want the setting to change drastically by advancement, so they have to find little logical ways to stop it.
The only novel I've read was, ironically enough, Grey Knights. Gonna read Felix and Gortek one of these days, although it's WH Fantasy. I hear good about the Caiphus Kain books, which is no surprise given they are Flashman in 40K.

Oh, I have some Codices for Space marines, Eldar, and Tyranids. I usually look at them while the paint is drying and coming up with strategies and what equipment to wear for my troops. That or I read some novels, and some of the books you've mentioned I own. My favorite Black Library novels is the Grey knight series.I own them all and could not put the books down. It had nothing but non-stop action and the protagonist Alaric was a bad ass. I've also read the Omnibus of Ciaphas Kain and found the book quite humorous but like what you said it is Flashman of 40k. Right now I'm reading the omnibus of Space Wolves and so far the book is bad ass, It goes from barbaric tribes to galactic battles(I also like it cause it shows the brutal steps of becoming a space marine). I also own the Founding but can't really get into it. In a couple of weeks I'm going to get the 5th edition rule book but am going wait a little longer so this website I know could have it and I could get it 25% off.
