Aha, the game has been released already. I am looking at two torrents. Looks like it's over 4 GiB, but three of them are probably just padding. Downloading now. Just for the hell of it. I have no intention of playing this game. It will probably never even get finished, as I don't have an internet connection (and I do not intend to get one, things are more fun without it). I only steal from other people's wireless connections if I have my laptop with me.

Okay, few hours of playing later, couple of initial impressions:
- The voicework is a lot sparser than I was expecting from the trailers. The vast majority of dialogue is unvoiced, with the voice clips pretty much thrown randomly around, and used in battle. - Food system is the same as it ever was - get 10, go to restaurant in first town, receive better. Seems to go up to level 4 food items. - I was a bit worried about how the music would turn out after the weak opening song and the boss music in those trailers, but so far it's been up to standard. Within the first 10 minutes I already had the volume up, which I suppose is a good sign. - Graphics are nice and colourful. Some of the characters look a little... strange for lack of a better word, but on the whole the graphics are pretty good as far as Falcom games go. - Resisting level ups is hard ;_;
Also, looking through the music folder to find 2 of the earlier tracks, there's some... familiar music in here. I look forward to seeing how on earth they're going to use some of these tracks. Oh, and it doesn't work with Rikaichan. Which is a pain, but I'll live.

Boo to pirates. No way am I downloading it before I get my hands on my bought copy. Kidding, since I pirate other games, but only those I know I won't buy My general rule is once I've paid for something I'll do what I like. After all, the whole reason I buy games in the first place is to support the company - once they have my money, what does it matter how I actually play the game? How does my sitting waiting for the post service to finally get the game to me benefit the developer in any way whatsoever? Yeah, I know you were kidding, but there you go. I'll continue to download games I can as soon as possible, but likewise my Falcom PC game collection is probably the pride of my shelf and I have a bunch of their games I probably won't even play on there just for completion's sake. My 'try to stay L1 for as long as possible' was crushed in the very last section of the first area before the boss. Dammit. Curse you small furry animals with throwing disks.

Well, I guess it's different in the way we justify the value of money spent. Since I'm paying money to get the physical game, I feel like I'm cheating myself if I just grab the game off the net now. I want the original files from the original discs to be installed first into my computer, not from someone's ripped game. Feels like I'm paying the damn bugger to put it on the web in the first place.
See, it makes me feel I paid in full for my games. Sure the internets are moving towards digital downloads, but that's just bullocks to me. I want my stuff in hard, shiny discs with colorful printed paper.
I blame the internet really.

So now, it'll be like you having two copies! D: Well, that's my thought about it~! I don't lose any sleep over it cuz I do it too. :P I'm not going to look for the Zwei 2 torrent though cuz, in all honesty, I'm not all that hyped up to play it. I'll just wait.

Yeah, not having a physical box and disk in front of me when I play doesn't bother me at all. Doesn't 'feel' any different, just feels like I'm playing the game. Saying that though I actually don't like the move towards complete digital downloads. I want the box, partly for reinstall security (all this stuff about DRM only letting you install a game 3 times or whatever is complete insanity), and partly because I like displaying them, but my like of having boxes and my like of playing the games just don't seem to cross. Possibly the result of years of impatience and having to rely on shoddy postal services or customs-heavy express ones? Who knows. Either way, I'm not losing any sleep.

It's because that one copy you download is the equivalent of one sale. So now, it'll be like you having two copies! D: But by that logic, wouldn't putting the game on your harddisk to save you having to use the CD be just as bad? ^_^; You're still only paying for one copy and getting 'two'. And where do you draw the line? I mean...copying a song from a CD to your MP3 player is more or less the same thing, isn't it? ^_^ Iunno. I'm with Varion here. Maybe it's 'cause my brother used to pirate everything, and I got kinda spoiled with not having to wait on stuff I wanted~ Or maybe it's just because we Brits tend to be a little jaded due to years of crappy release dates and suchilke. ^_~ But yes, I don't really see anything at all that's wrong with downloading games I've already paid for~ About the only thing that comes to mind is that I'm uploading as I'm downloading, and thus probably sharing the file with people who haven't paid for it? But... *shrugs* People who want to pirate are going to get something if they want it anyway, so... I doubt I'm doing much harm there. :x The convenience of pirate copies aside, though, I actually kinda hate digital distribution too. ^_^ I'd never pay for an album of MP3s if the CD was available at a reasonable price. I don't know. I like...stuff. I like being able to look at my shelves and see the spines of DVDs, games, and books that bring back so many happy memories. ^_^ Even if I almost never play any of my games using the original discs themselves, it's just nice to have them~ Iunno. Maybe I'm just a bit of a hoarder. :x But a world without pretty things is a world that wouldn't be half as fun to live in~ ^_^; Anyway, I'm actually downloading Zwei II not to play it, but to make sure it'll run on my silly old PC. ^_^; I figure if it does run, I'll buy it. And if it doesn't? Well there's no sense in me holding onto it~ ^_^;

Well at least you'll play it first. I'm still collecting food in Zwei before I head on to the final battle... so might take at least a week before I start installing Zwei 2..

Every time I've ordered from them they just ship it out, never get told when it has actually shiped or given a tracking number or anything. Also, I hate Monblanc. That is all.

I can't play it! D: It won't get beyond the very opening, when the cat thing shows up. My computer just locks liek woah when it gets to that part, no matter the graphics settings I put the game on. :/ THAT CAT... Does it lock up anywhere in particular? Like, specific lines or whatever. I'm wondering if it's the 2 movies that play during that scene causing the problem... tried turning them off in the options? (It's event_01.mpg then event_02.mpg a bit after in the Zwei2/data/sys folder if you wanted to watch them separately)

It's because that one copy you download is the equivalent of one sale. So now, it'll be like you having two copies! D: But but but, the copy you're installing onto the disk is the one that came off the CD or DVD you purchased. D: So it's like a 1:1 ratio! Whereas, if it's a torrent, one person bought the game, ripped it, and let 92384729384723 people download. But! Those 92384729384723 people could have paid for it which meant that the company could have made money from 92384729384723 copies sold! It's ... something like that! but I guess it doesn't apply for the folks that paid for the game already! :3!! Like I said, I'm not really all frothing and slobbering over people pirating since I do it myself. It's just for this game, because I'm not super eager or curious enough to want to play it RIGHT AWAY, I'm not getting the torrent. :P You know, Falcom should have released a benchmark program for it. (Did they? ^^;) They did it for Gurumin! That's how I got interested in it! :D Also: Falcom is shipping these things without giving us the EMS tracking number? :((((((((((((( Damnation!

Damn, I don't think I have any e-mails for Ys Origin anymore so I can't confirm. I think if you ask them for it, they'll provide it?
Regardless, I'll be expecting mine early next week along with the other non-Falcom goodies I've ordered!

Falcom hasn't sent me EMS tracking numbers for *years* now. I just pretty much assume they shipped it. -Tom Like other people said, you can send an e-mail to Falcom and ask for the EMS number. You'll need the receipt number as well.

Hmm, now that you mentioned it, I don't remember any email for all my deliveries either....
Anyway, about the video problem, could be a codec issue. Try uninstalling whatever codec packs you have. And then install a hassle free pack like CCCP. I never really trusted K-lite.

All I've got installed on my system is CCCP and Quicktime Alternative and I've only ever had trouble with the original Zwei because it seemingly needed something else not in CCCP. Never tried K-Lite because, well, what I have works. No need. Zwei 2's are just plain old mpg though, it seems really weird that they'd give anyone issues.
Also, pretty sure I'm right near the end now. My expectations were pretty damp, I admit - didn't really follow most of the updates, and those 2 boss videos really didn't do much for me at all. But I really ended up enjoying the game. Attractive, colourful artstyle, an excellent soundtrack, fun, frequently challenging gameplay (I was trying to stay around the recommended level for bosses and not eat much at all for the regular levels, so I died quite a lot) and some pretty awesome bosses (Monblanc can seriously go to hell though) leave me very satisfied indeed. Like most of the characters too, in particular Arwen isn't even half as arrogant as I expected her to be and Ragna is pretty inherently likeable too.

Well, I couldn't stand the temptation and tried a few mins of the game. Man how I love the graphics. Turned graphics to maximum and it looks so good. There were a few graphical glitches, probably the graphics driver. Hopefully falcom will release a patch to fix them up.
Anyway, it's hard for CCCP to muck up your system because all it does is just install ffdshow tryout, matroska filter, mpv mpeg2 decoder and does settings for them. The reason why CCCP doesn't work is most likely because there were some existing codecs that were wrestling merits from ffdshow or the mpv decoder. Same reason why K-lite works because it probably has the same codecs and overwritten those instead.
CCCP has a tool called CCCP Insurgent that removes any existing codecs that may conflict with CCCP. You prolly didn't use that first before installing CCCP.

Got my Zwei 2 today. It's been years since I use ffdshow. It's very small and everything works fine.
