Dude, GMF. That's an awesome picture, that second one. You had just the right shirt for it. Question: Did they do walking motions while standing in place? Ha ha, it's funny how that picture turned out. At first I was Just going to stand beside the two of them. It was Shimomura that allowed me to stand between them. I wasn't complaining. Also, I am sorry but I can't provide any footage of the concerts. The opportunities were there this time, but one of the persons involved with the show has given me privileges that others haven't gotten. This is because I have met them at several shows now, and I can't jeopardize that relationship. I believe in honesty. What I can do is try my best to convince them to release CDs/DVDs of the Play concerts. Hey, they just made an announcement about the Toronto Play concert! ยป PLAY! to feature music from famous Castlevania-series Music from Konami's famous video game series Castlevania is going to be performed on September 30, 2006 at the Hummingbird Centre in Toronto, Canada. I will be there in Toronto, and at the next play concert in Virginia. I plan to give away some Ys music to the conductor Arnie Roth. Just maybe Ys could be a part of this tour. I know it's a long shot, but I have met the producer several times. It could happen.

Wow, you've been to three (?) concerts, and planning to go to two more? You really are an absolute diehard fan of video game music.

Last night was my fourth Play concert, it was fantastic, even though it was the same set from the Philadelphia show. There was 110% more footage from games, and I'm told nearly 5,000 were in attendance. Here's a couple pictures. The Wolf Trap Theatre. where my camera almost got taken away after taking this picture: A Couple FFX Cosplayers:

If anyone's interested, here is a little review of the Toronto Play Concert: It was quite good and rivaled the premiere show in Chicago in terms of quality. Arnie Roth conducted again and the show took place at the Hummingbird Center in Toronto. Here is the guest list: Nobuo Uematsu Takenobu Mitsuyoshi Jeremy Soule Chris Tilton (from the upcoming game "Black"). Ronny Barrak (percussionist) Here is the set list (which may be slightly out of order) 1. Play theme 2. Liberi Fatali 3. Mario Medley 4. Shenmue 5. Aeris' Theme 6. Sonic Medley 7. A surprise performance of Sega's "Daytona USA" by Mr. Mitsuyoshi. He played piano and sang English vocals. This was awesome and his performance stole the show. An unforgetable moment. After that Mitsuyoshi threw a few stuffed Sonic plush dolls into the crowd. 8. Theme from "Black". I liked this a lot. 9. Metal Gear Solid Theme. 10. Castlevania Medley This medley had two parts, the first part was basically the title track from the Dracula New Classic CD, the arrangement was exactly the same. The second I believe was from Curse of Darkness, it was quite good, and featured a Keyboard for the organ and slamming drums. I felt it was a good mix old and new Castlevania. 11. Kingdom Hearts Intermission 12. Elder Scrolls III Suite 13. Theme from Prey. 14. Swing de Chocobo 15. Chrono Trigger/Cross 16. World of Warcraft Suite 17. Silent Hill 2 Theme of Laura So far, I feel no one has matched Akira Yamaoka's performance of this in Chicago. The various guitarists for the orchestras have been outstanding, but seeing Mr. Yamaoka do it is more electrifying. 18. Halo Suite 19. Zelda 20. One Winged Angel 21. Encore: Blue Dragon Theme There was a pre show discussion on game music hosted by the guild of Canadian film composers. Basically the topic was the growing worldwide popularity of game music and how newer games were similar to movies. It was pretty cool. In attendance were: 1. Paul Hoffert (guild of Canadian Film Composers Chairperson) 2. David Logan (Composer for pitfall 3D, X-Men Mutant Academy). 3. Simon Pressey (audio director for Ubisoft Montreal) Mr. Hoffert also stated he is writing a book on how to compose music for games. After the show was the meet and greet event with the composers. Unfortunately this one seemed very rushed, unlike those I attended previously. I was unable to get a photo with Mr. Uematsu like I had hoped. The best moment here came when Jeremy Soule said I was a "hardcore dude", for having attended so many shows. I was also unable to get any more of my Uematsu CDs signed, as the staff of the Hummingbird Center enforced a "one item only signed per composer rule". This left me a little sad, but afterward I felt lucky for having gotten a combined total of over forty items signed at previous Play concerts. I had drawn a litlle SD style picture of Mr. Uematsu which I was very happy to get autographed by him. Here it is: I hope this was a helpful post! Keith

Cool stuff! Lots of good tunes in there! Ooh, what did he think of your picture? Did he say anything when he signed it? Awesomeness!! By the way, are you talking about the PS2 FPS "Black"? If so - that game's already released.

If so - that game's already released. Uematsu did laugh at the picture, which was cool. Yes, that is the same game, I thought they said it was an upcoming title, but, oh well. It was a great piece of music they played from it.

Gamermusicfreak, I was at the Toronto Play! concert as well, it was the 3rd one of these I went to and it was awesome.
I got to sit in the same row with the composers (JJ center row), when Takunobu Misuyoshi tossed those Sonic dolls from the stage, I was the guy who grabbed that one that bounced between rows and was rolling in the isle(hah).
I was at the afterconcert meet to, strange that we've probably met =).

Hey, Finland is just next to Sweden, so why not visit me as well while you're in Europe? Why not? I just got some inside information from the Play! producer about another upcoming concert date. It hasn't even been announced yet! I don't think I should mention it, but I really want to attend that one too!!

There was a pre show discussion on game music hosted by the guild of Canadian film composers. Simon Pressey (audio director for Ubisoft Montreal) heh, that guy's the sound/music teacher at my college. he's a pretty cool guy (although I felt he wasted a lot of precious class time). One of his final projects was to redo all of the sound in X-men mutant academy. I knew about the Toronto concert but I was too busy and low on cash... and besides, I would have only gone for the Castlevania, Mario, and Zelda music (I've heard most of that other stuff you listed for that concert and I'm not too fond of it... especially One Winged Angel, it makes me cringe). The guest list didn't look too interesting to me either. One reason I was sad about missing the concert was that I thought that because Castlevania had been added for the first time that Michiru Yamane would be there... I'm really surprised that it turns out she wasn't. I'd love to see Ys on board... but I'm extremely surprised there's no Mega Man music on board yet! that's just wrong... if any series has always got noticeably awesome music, it's Mega Man... from the originals to the Zero series.

Thanks for the writeup, I've been all over the map when it comes to Play, but never attended a Video Games Live event yet. I've spoken to people at various concerts who attended, and they've said good things about it for the most part.
