John Carpenter's The Thing...
I don't know why, but that movie is just one of the greatest, and possibly one of John Carpenter's best as well!
I think I have authority to claim that as well...;p Having seen all of his movies from Dark Star to Ghosts of Mars(Though In the Mouth of Madness was his last good film...)

I liked it the first time I saw it, but not the other three (!) times that I've seen it (or rather, seen parts of it)

I agree that Starman, his 1985 film sucked badly...;p But I love They Live, Prince of Darkness, Escape from LA and In the Mouth of Madness. His TV movie, Bodybags was all right. Can't stand Vampires, Village of the Damned and Ghosts of Mars. But as I understand it, not many people liked his late 80's films and on.
But everyone has their own tastes;p They Live happens to be close to the top of my favorite movie list;p

I find They Live hard to watch because I just keep seeing Kurt Russell in the starring role - that other guy seems to me like a replacement Kurt because he was contracted to another project or something.
But let's not forget Big Trouble in Little China - I was very indifferent about this movie for years until recently when I rediscovered it and found out how funny and clever it actually is. Do you realise that the hero achieves virtually nothing in the whole film apart from showing how out of his depth he is, while the sidekick does all the heroic stuff? Some very funny moments of Kurt Russell's character being completely inept are worth making this watch.

Yeah, how could I forget about Big Trouble in Little China:p I love that movie! You're right about They Live though, after seeing Big Trouble, Kurt Russell would have been a better choice to star in that film, though I still enjoy "Rowdy" Roddy Piper in They Live;p Beyd

Empire Strikes Back is actually my least favorite of the trilogy, although I hate choosing because they're all so incredible. RotJ, ANH, ESB. About the new ones, I think the reason people say that the effects suck is because in many cases they're overused to the point where the CG is desensitizing. The level of detail on the models in the movies 30 years ago lent those films a unique appeal. Oh, the new films also suck because of the crappy scripts. Remind me why Padme wasn't bothered by Anakin's little romp with the Sand People? Other favorites: Seven Samurai, Fellowship of the Ring, The Princess Bride, LadyHawke, Willow, Fantasia, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Spaceballs, Wet Hot American Summer, A Nightmare on Elm Street 1-5, and many others I'm forgetting! Hey, has anyone seen Falling Down?

My favorite movie is Schindler's List. That's because it makes me cry every single time I watch it. Back to the future comes second...

My Fav Movie would be A BRONX TALE. I think coffeecake was a HILARIOUS character and Mush always jinxed everything they did. The Race Track was a funny scene. Overall, the movie was just awesome with that father/son bond and struggle. Wasn't this Robert DeNiro's first directed movie? I forget.......Or at least one of his best . Everyone should watch this, unless it ain't your bag, obviously. On another note, anime-wise, I'd say KITE for the action sequences, Fist Of The North Star for most graphically entertaining (nothing like heads blowing up ^_^), and Appleseed 2004/Cowboy Bebop:The Movie, just cuz I like them.

Hrm.. This is a tough one for me. I'm a big fan of Dark City, since it's photographed really well and has all the elements of a great movie if you ignore a few plot holes.
I agree, Donnie Darko was great too.
I think I'm going to go with The Hudsucker Proxy, though. It always reminded me of Fight Club, but set in a universe that was much more bright and light than the dark, grim world that fight Club was set in. The premise of dealing with the rat race and overcoming it it essentially the same, and it serves as a good way to see two different ways of viewing how to react to corporate life and life in general.
Edit: And yeah, I've seen Falling Down. Great, great movie too. But so sad. My father really enjoyed that movie except when the ending hit, because the movie does such a good job of just pointing the character as an everyday guy who's caught in this crazy world of ours. You don't see too many movies like that anymore.

I've got it narrowed down to Donnie Darko, Sin City, Kung Fu Hustle, and the entire Robotech saga (own 'em all!).

Trimurti (hindi film..)
2nd is an english film: LOTR (yeah, im one of those fans that looks at the series as a whole... but the 3rd part is my favorite part)
or Star Wars III, ugh i cant decide. Well, ill stick with LOTR cuz i liked the whole trilogy a lot more than the whole SW trilogy (1 to 3)
Zone of the Enders: Idolo was also amazing, but it was short. It'd be #1 if it had been longer.

This is always so hard to do. Having one favorite of something that has so many genres can be very difficult to sift through. I know it's quite recent, but truly, I love Return of the King and would have to pick it as my favorite movie. However, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure did hold the number one spot for quite some time.

I have seen a lot of great movies recently, but the one I keep in mind as my all time classic favorite is Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. If I had to pick a second favorite, it would be the Escape from Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood. Many classic lines in that movie. They show it all the time on TV too.

If it says StarWars on the box then its my favorite, I WILL not pick a favorite in the series because there all just too good to me, plus its meant to be one story.

I love all kinds of movies, but my favorite movie of all time is the Usual Suspects. Not only does it have basically the greatest ending of all time, but it's the details that make the movie great. The movie is almost better the second time around, because you're picking up clues and hints that you didn't notice the first time around, that you could only detect after you know the ending. Even on third and fourth viewings, you can pick up something new each time that you missed the time before. It's so deceptively meticulous in that sense, I love it.
