I can see this game certainly isn't receiving the same level of attention as a new Ys or LoH game. But I have to say, I'm enjoying it...despite not having played the first Zwei.
I just made it to the dark forest and most of the visuals have been very colorful and enjoyable. The combat isn't incredibly deep, but the game has a lot of character to it, including some very enjoyable dialogues -- so it's easy to forgive a few short-comings.

I'm deeply, deeply jealous. Looks beautiful, and I want the OST *pouts*

I liked the fact that ripples in the water will bounce off walls, but don't like that jumping doesn't make a splash.

We all know what to get you for Christmas I guess.
Damn game looks great, and I hope a PSP release comes our way.

Heh, you and your biplanes. What about those fighter planes in Last Exile anime?
Anyway, played a little of Zwei II (even though I'm still trying to complete Zwei). Looks really really pretty, especially with the graphics options maxed. Might need a powerful graphics card though, I'm thankful for the investment in my 8800 GTS.
The fighting is not as simple as Zwei actually, more like gurumin and I died fighting a mini boss in the first dungeon... shouldn't have stocked on the food first. What I like most is how easy it is to switch between both characters. In the first game, I had to wait a little before pressing the esc key to switch.
And the characters are so lovable, can't wait for Pokkuru and Pipiro to appear.

I really like what I've seen of the game so far, but I'm a little disappointed by how poorly my computer renders it. My video card is pretty much shot, so I might need to take a moment and get myself a new one before I can really enjoy this game, as its graphics are kind of distractingly choppy right now. Falcom's current graphics engine really has the bad tendency to induce memory leak in many computers. The graphics engine, which I speculated is bought from a third party company, is pretty inefficient. I'm pretty sure Falcom will try to do their best to fix this problem, but there is no guarantee. SPOILER: I just got the costumes for Ragna and Alwen.

The first patch is out. It fixes the opening video problem that's affecting some of the players here. As I thought, it was a merit problem with ffdshow.
And Blackbean, there are tons of games out there with "bad memory leaks". And more often than not, it's the graphics drivers that break the game instead. Well, the game is pretty spiffy on my 8800 gts with all settings maxed, so I'm not complaining. And yes I did try a few drivers, with varying results.

I'm using a crappy video card at a mid-resolution (1024x768, 32 bit), yet the game runs pretty smoothly for me and that's after I applied the patch.

I liked the fact that ripples in the water will bounce off walls, but don't like that jumping doesn't make a splash. I don't really like how they didn't make use of the jumping like the fact that you can't jump over fences or onto higher elevation at the hill. I suppose that the characters can jump onto things when necessary though. 9_9 And wyrdwad, at least you understand quite a bit of Japanese to begin with. :P This is going to be yet another game where I'll only understand 30% of the various parts of the plot. :B

I hope that one has an Ys cameo like the first one. xD (Typing of Ys: The Final Chapter? )

Unfortunately, Falcom has to at least up the standard of it's graphics. They even made use of lighting effects like bloom and the use of hi res textures is pretty taxing. Not to mention there's a filter of gaussian blurring or at least a bilinear blurring effect. Definitely a far cry from Gurumin and it's a step up from Ys Origin.
So, I guess we can't forever stick to the old graphics card. Most PC games now require more and more horsepower and Zwei II is definitely one of them.

A few months ago, my video card's fan actually died without me realizing it. The heat got so intense that it melted a chunk of the GPU. A sad, sad day... Needless to say, I had to grab a new card. I ended up getting a great deal on an 8800GT (it was barely 100$) and I'm incredibly happy with the choice. My computer was able to run Assassin's Creed maxed out without a hitch. Zwei II barely makes the card sweat. It's hard to get decent video cards for older computers because everything is going PCI Express now. AGP cards (and regular PCI cards) are quickly becoming a thing of the past.

I melted my first VooDoo 1 video card back in 1996/1997 or something, those things didn't have a fan

Er, if anyone could help me out a bit with tweaking this game... I assume that's max settings? Unfortunately I can only read katakana so some of this is just blowing over my head. I think the options I set for the texture and buffer settings to the right mean something like "no limit?" Also, if anyone knows a way to force AA and AF that'd be great because for some reason there's no options for it within the game's config itself unlike the more recent Ys games, and forcing it through ATI's control panel doesn't work either, whether it's in windowed or full screen. One last thing, Fraps says I'm running the game at over 2000 FPS at those settings, and I'm sure it's lying since I'm running an X1950XT at idle clock speeds. Any way to get the game to spit out a real FPS within its own engine like Ys games? Thanks for any help that comes by.

For better rendering -if your computer is powerful enough-, you can activate the V-Sync option.

Oh, guess I was mistaken about the patch. Didn't read the support page in detail. The patch was never meant to solve the opening problem. It solves some bugs and graphical glitches in the game. But Falcom did mention about codec merits that can cause problems with the opening movie.

V-sync removes screen tearing, which is an absolute MUST. AGP cards (and regular PCI cards) are quickly becoming a thing of the past. AGP cards have been obsolete (and definitely a thing of the past) for many years now. PCI cards have been obsolete for over ten years now.
