Meh. Hatsune Miku techno chocobo theme is WAAAAY better. (: At least that one didn't change the melody so much. Too classic a melody to mess with it like that! Bad composer - BAD!! (: I'm beginning to think you deliberately diss tunes I like or like stuff I don't like for the heck of it. You should ignore all the stuff I like cuz otherwise, I might find where you live and uppercut you for real. >:( heh heh heh. This made me laugh out loud. ;D

This made me think of wyrd! ^^ www.destructoid.com/in-defense-of-vanille-169278.phtmlNot entirely sure he'd "defend" Vanille for the same reasons though. :B And after 75 hours of the game, she's A LOT less annoying than she was at the start! But!! She still has some oddities! Like so!

After one battle Hope said something to the effect of "That went exactly as planned"
which caused everyone else in the room to start cracking up because I did horribly that fight, almost got NPC Hope killed, and got 1 star

I don't think I've ever had that happen; Hope tends to say that when the rating is good (and of course, when he's the one that finishes off the last enemy).
I want to though! I think I'll try and make it happen cuz it is rather hilarious!! XD

So, as far as FFXIII goes I'm a lot less interested. It seems so distant and automated, in so many ways... Shifting paradigms just doesn't seem engaging. End of Eternity/Resonance of Fate on the other hand? Awesome!

Yeah, with really nice character interactions. Not only that, but the battle system actually looks, woah, ENGAGING. Believe it or not, you can still have interaction for something to be good. Oh wait, it was always that way, I dunno why developers feel otherwise.

End of Eternity/Resonance of Fate on the other hand? Awesome! I wouldn't be so quick to judge Smithee. Most people have a problem with the battle system, because they are clinging on to misplaced expectations. The battle system does pull you, as a player, out of the action to a certain degree, but it offers an insane amount of control with the flow of the actual fight.

You know, I really wanted to love this game, but after having completed it and let the experience sink in, I have to say it's just a regular "pretty good" game that happens to look really, really stunning. I could write a huge post detailing my sentiments but I won't do that. Yet.

That's what you get when you name your game "Final Fantasy." You can't have a long-running series like that and NOT have expectations about it. And when those expectations aren't met, there's going to be fan backlash! If they didn't want that, they shouldn't have called it Final Fantasy. -Tom Yes, I get your point. But you went all wonky when you included the "ITS FINAL FANTASY" logic. No 2 games are alike, which means those who expect each game to follow norms from older titles haven't really paid enough attention to the series as a whole. The battle system, if you had to reference another game, pulls very heavily from Final Fantasy 10-2, 11, and 12.

If this game had been released as a new IP, I think many more people would be blown away but when it come for Final Fantasy you have some pretty big shoes to fill. At the same time it is impossible to met this kind of expectation, I think our personal feelings of how good the game should be are overshadowing the game itself

Pssh. The battle system is what makes FFXIII fun! Everything else can go out the door! :B
I should get the demo and play that forever because THAT'S the part that made the game for me. Gran Pulse is where it's at, I tells you!
Also, ShinGundam speaks truth~! When I look at XIII, I do think more people would be happy with it if it was a new title of sorts w/o FF attached to it.
I read that Versus is supposed to play more like the Kingdom Hearts series. I just hope it doesn't use something similar like the goofy Panel system in 358/2 Days. (I'm sure I'll warm up to it when I get more free panel space. :B)

I hope it doesn't, anyway, if it plays like KH I'm not buying it. I'll just get the soundtrack. KH sucks.

I think it has to do with the game engine and technical limitations more than anything else just take a look to the pre-PS1 Final Fantasy games, they share a lot of similarity and same thing applies to PS1 games. Now speaking of PS2 they wanted to strike a perfect 3d formula but that didn't happen, FF10 lacks of an Overworld and FF12 team canceled an airship. Now with advent of FF13 things aren't too different from FF10 and FF12, They canceled some of civilized places in favor storage and gameplay balance.

Hey, I wasn't saying that it was that it wasn't "like" other Final Fantasy games that bothered me. I just like other Final Fantasy games more than I like it, y'know? And that isn't decided until I play it as well.

People need to stop whining about change. Change can be good, dammit! :B
I've played 4, 6, most of 5, some of 7, a wee bit of 8, all of 9, 10, and 12 and I liked those systems! Well, with 8, I never really got the chance to do much so I can't say I like the Junction system or not. ^^
Kingdom Hearts doesn't suck. TT Well, maybe the first game did, and possibly the GBA version of Chains of Memories. I'm debating on whether or not Days sucks as well but I like KH2 and BbS. TT~!

Change CAN be good... but Square is so, SO bad at it. -Tom That's total BS man. Just because you don't like one game, ONE GAME that they've made recently, doesn't mean all of their stuff sucks. The last Final Fantasy CC game was fantastic. Did you play it? The remake of Final Fantasy IV was amazing. Did you play it? FF Crystal Defenders is easily one of the best WiiWare titles. Did you play it? Dragon Quest 9 totally changed the franchise formula, and to much acclaim. Did you play it? Dissidia on PSP seems to garner a ton of respect, especially for a fighting game made by an RPG company. Did you play it? Do I need to keep going? I mean, to say SE hasn't changed, or done well at changing their old formats doesn't really make sense. I think you just said something mean about FF13 one day, and now you have to create preposterous observations about other games to back it up. It is fine to say you don't like the direction FF13 took. The game doesn't speak for the entire company though, and there are those, myself included, that really enjoy what SE has done with the game. There has been a ton of effort put into the final product, and it shows.

*Reaches through monitor and chokes Wyrd* FF4 DS wasn't developed by Square, but yes, it was very good. The rest of the games you listed I've either not yet played (Dissidia), doesn't count because it's Enix (DQ9 - again, I'm cool with the Enix side of Square Enix!), or I hated (Crystal Chronicles, Crystal Defenders). -Tom Enix doesn't exist anymore dude. They merged with Square a few years ago. Even though a different dev company may have made FF IV, it was still an original SE IP, and they footed the bill. Possession is 9/10th of the law yo!

Nope, All the changes were decided by Producers from SE.
Both DQ8 and DQ9 were developed by Level5 , FF12 and FF13 were made by different teams from Square.

No, your statement was that SE does a bad job at changing in both style and production of new content. That is why I brought up the new FF IV game, which serves as a prime example. I mean, look at the DQ 4-6 remakes dude. *reaches through monitor for round 2*
