Not sure how many countries get the same Ikea ads but this was one that aired in Canada a few years ago: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZLz9KIdOBA:D The others I remember are radio ads. .__.

I think part of the thing about scandanavia's supposed news dearth is the fact things we consider news, like someone freezing to death in a blizzard, is a daily thing there and no one really cares.

Captain is right. It happens all the time. In fact, my friend here just froze over and died. These things happen, no biggie.

Indeed. News in Scandanavia is things like "Man holds a job for three uninterrupted months!" and "Tourist considers local woman fashionable, possibly attractive."

"Tourist considers local woman fashionable, possibly attractive." You are mean.

That ikea lamp commercial was awesome, and I love what the guy says at the end of the ceramic pig commercial (i think it was "do not feel sorry for teh little oink-ah"). They made me laugh good. And then I saw this: www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=53

Damn. It'd be nice if it were like this here. When people get heat stroke or freeze to death, it's news. ._O Do you guys have any native or endangered animals there? D: Usually, those make news when they die or give birth! Or maybe politicians that beat each other up like the Taiwanese ones? I swear, whenever they fight, it's in the World news (and on the 6 o'clock Chinese news).

The volves are (really) endangered. There's plenty of news about hunter bastards who kill them anyway.
Oh yeah, and shoplifting politicians as well. You know, prime ministers and stuff. Yeah, they shoplift.

These are really endangered. There aren't many left. Hunters hate them, so they kill them even though it is illegal. Scumbags. This is on the news a lot.

o_O It's sort of cute too. Bastards! ><! And oooh www.vastsverige.com/templates/article____3201.aspx :DD Guh. The Canadian government has a site for endangered wildlife. o.o It's amazing the things you find when you're not really looking for them. ^^; www.speciesatrisk.gc.ca/default_e.cfmAnd COME ON, this could be something that could end a domestic (Canada) newscast or maybe one of those in-between world news stories: "Eleven swans found in Stockholm apartment". (http://www.thelocal.se/6264/20070131/) There's way too much about Iraq, Israel, and all the countries that are being bombed and blown up. And wow: www.thelocal.se/6212/ Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if this WAS on the news. I probably wasn't watching or listening. :P I DO sort of recall something about the Virgin space program though.

Curse you. I actually laughed out loud at that. :( This thread wasn't exactly made to poke fun at the countries, you know. ^^ I am genuinely curious about what goes on over there seeing that there are some members on this board from those places. Of course, Google would be able to provide answers but it's more fun to get them first hand. Hirm, I guess I should also be asking what sort of news the rest of Europe -- excluding except for Britain, Ireland, and the Vatican City -- has cuz they're all sort of quiet too. Well, okei, France gets the spotlight now and then cuz of Cannes and all the fashion stuff. Italy has all the food. Spain shows up when tomatoes are being hurled at one another and bulls are running on the streets ... I guess all that's stereotypical but it's what the media covers. DDDD:

It's actually kinda sad we don't get more news about Spain; there's real political trouble right now, with people demanding government reform, others wanting to keep the current government, Catalonian nationalists, possibly Basque nationalists, and all kinds of shit.
And yeah, poking fun is my fault. I like to do that to my friends. Sorry =[
And I totally agree, it's much more interesting to learn these things via conversation than news source.

Stupid selective press coverage. Our international news consists mostly of the stuff I mentioned before and the United States. It's always politics, weather, war, or science/technology when some breakthrough or research results come up. When something brings spirits up, it's not news. >_>
And well, after going through some of the English edition of online papers for the quieter countries, I have determined that they're pretty much as mundane as around here. ._.;;;;;

I would think that mudane would be a fairly good thing, really.
Sad thing is, we don't even get decent news coverage. Do you have any equivalent of the US's PBS up in Canadia? IE: Publically run television that tends to show BBC news and the like? If so, watch the news on that, you'll get a somewhat less sensationalized and significantly less sloppy news report than one does from US networks (Cannae say about Canadian News, though).

We get PBS. ^^; But there's also TV Ontario which I don't watch much in the first place.
Heck, I don't watch TV very much at all. When I do, it's because my mother is watching the Chinese stations and I just end up watching them too. :B
