I never played SD3 despite it being translated. It looked like more of the same? In any case that's why I stayed away from it.

Ah... in some ways yes, others no. It got a bit better balance, but the glitches are insane. The critical hits don't register properly haha. At least check the ost out, as its very good.

Ah well, I'll check that out then. I never turn down a good OST. Out of the Mana games, I liked Sword of Mana, Children of Mana and Legend of Mana. Actually, Children of Mana was only decent for me, but what a soundtrack.

You should check out the Dawn of Mana soundtrack too man. Its phenomenal, which is a huge contrast to the actual game. I enjoyed that to a certain degree, but wow it was a bad idea, somewhat executed well.

Oh, I forgot that game even existed, to be honest. It's been a while since my PS2 but the dust, so yeah. =/
The Mana games generally have good musical scores, though. I wonder of Heroes of Mana does too.

Ah well, I'll check that out then. I never turn down a good OST. Out of the Mana games, I liked Sword of Mana, Children of Mana and Legend of Mana. Actually, Children of Mana was only decent for me, but what a soundtrack. That's exactly how I feel about the Mana series, word for word. Sword of Mana and Legend of Mana were superb! I didn't like the idea that I'd have to repeat dungeons in Children of Mana for missions, that left a sour taste in my mouth. You're also right about SoM; it's WAY too overhyped. I've read a review somewhere that boasted it was somehow better than EarthBound. I gave SoM *SO MANY CHANCES* to prove itself; I emulated it, I bought it, I can't tell you how many times I've played through the exact same parts (due to data loss, or forgetfulness of the actual scenario), but I did give it a fairly huge chance. In the end, I came to realize that it's nothing more than a big, buggy, unpolished mess whose only purpose was to *look*, and *sound* pretty, without having solid *gameplay* to back that up.

Oh big time. Heroes of Mana is a pretty good game in itself, and is a direct sequel to SD3, but its an RTS. The music is really damn good.

Ys V definitely seems thrown together as far as combat goes. Other games which are older took care of what it should have done with ease......Games like Xak/Fray for example.
as for SoM, its a game I've played through repeatedly since it came out. It was all I did in 1st grade was play that game repeatedly.. I remember how epic I thought all of the story elements were, and how atmospheric all the regions were. And the music that plays when youre flyin' around! Hooooo man.
despite it being an action RPG, its still turn based underneath everything. You pick up on that pretty quickly when you realize that if you smack an enemy 90 times, they take damage one hit at a time in order.... unlike other games (Zelda) where every time you poke something it immediately gets hurt.
The same goes for spells too. There are timers involved!
that all being said, the game is a masterpiece both visually and audio-...ally!
I always thought that and Illusion of Gaia were much more fun than Zelda, even though Zelda is a fun game too... something about the two of them was more immersive. Zelda is barely even an RPG really.
and back on topic, Lufia remake being an action rpg blows. We don't need more jumpy doofy action RPGs, we need real honest to goodness RPGs. No strategy ones, or retarded ones with battle systems and crafting and all kinds of whatever nonsense getting in the way.
I sure hope they don't drop the ball with this and make some boring crystal chronicles style disaster.

We have enough traditional RPG's too, which is why I'm glad they changed the gameplay type. If it was just another boring reskin, which Japanese companies excel at, then I would be pretty disappointed. I've been waiting for another entry in this series for a long time. I enjoyed RoL big time, which means I'm not hankering for the old play style. Hell, I'm glad to even see 'Lufia' in current news at all.

Apparently, this is what Tia looks like now: I like Maxim and Selan's new character art but Tia... no just no. It does not detract from my desire to have this game come over here (which is likely since Square-Enix is publishing it), however.

I'd much prefer it to remain turn based, it seems wierd that it's an action RPG now, but, if it doesn't suck, then it doesn't suck, I'll buy it!

Magic Box had some other screenshots too: the-magicbox.com/0911/game091125c.shtmlUh? What happened to the Lufia series discussion? :P Come on, people! WHERE'S THE EXCITEMENT!?!??!!? Anyway, just watched the trailer! Looks very actiony! And it also looks like there's no longer a party system? D: I wonder if you can switch characters on the fly?? The boss battle in the snow(?) reminded me a bit of Zwei 2~! I also hope those puzzle elements aren't too annoying. I kind of suck at puzzle solving. XD I wonder if Wakamoto Norio will lend his voice to this game too? :o BRRRRRRRRRRRAAH! Very melon~! o/~ Holy crap! This arranged version of the ending theme is NICE. @_@ And For the Savior Arranged is great too X___X The DS version! ^o^~~!! I GUESS I'LL BE BUYING THE SOUNDTRACK WHEN IT COMES OUT. (Hope it has lots of arranged tracks~!) I think I'll listen to the Lufia II OST again when I come home today. <3!

Wonder if I should try and plan to play all the lufia games before this is released or not. Never touched one before.

Just run through Lufia II man. Lufia 1 should be played out of interest from the 2nd game, the gbc game is a sequel, but its pretty skeletal storywise, and LoH is a side game.

I really hope all the character you play in the original are playable in this. It seems like the game wouldn't make as much sense, unless they change the story so that there weren't 4 heroes like the first 2 games.

Well, it SEEMS like a lot of the key characters are in this reboot. And in some of the scenes in the promo vid, it looks like another character is running around (like the part with the swinging across/to pillars)? I wanna see Dekar! XD XD XD XD!!!! I hope he's as much as an innocent goofball in this one as he was in II! ^o^

I enjoyed that to a certain degree, but wow it was a bad idea, somewhat executed well. Jumping randomly into the thread to second this. Didn't bother playing the game, but the soundtrack had some fantastic tracks on it. Then again the Mana series has always been great musically (at least all the ones I've heard... 1, 3, Legend, Dawn?), even though they keep switching composers all the time. Legend has one of the only soundtracks Shimomura actually gets to shine on, everything else is crappy Kingdom Hearts Then Dawn is Ito and Sekito who're just great (see also Last Remnant and Romancing Saga Minstrel Song).
