You live around the GTA? :O!!!!!! Whereabouts (er, if you don't mind disclosing)?

Yo, Jessicat, if I end up going to Anime North, want to meet up? Nunuu, are you going? Probably not. I never really liked AN. I think I went 3 or 4 times between 2000 and 2005 or so? And I definitely don't like it after having experienced Otakon. Anime North has NOTHING on it. One beef I have is that we never seem to be able to get the big name guests or really good vendors. I mean, in the US, local stores and publishers are all there so they'll show up in the dealers' room. I spent too much money buying game soundtrack CDs (legit, not the SM Records and shit that Kikiwai sold at the store and AN) at Otakon one year and even haggled with the seller to give me a discount. ^^; He was hesitant though because there were folks that bought even more and stuff. I did get a discount though. ^O^/ Er, I should mention that I mainly go to cons for shopping reasons. :P Well, way back when, it was for the artist alley too. However, for PAX this year, we are going to go to panels! RAR! Last time we went, we spent a chunk of the time going around Seattle and just basically not hanging around the con itself. ^^;;;;;;;;;;; As a result, we went to a total of ONE panel (Women in the gaming industry or something. 'Twas a good and educational panel! :3)

I swear I didn't see this post when I was last here a few months ago XD *super bad necro-post, but AN '10 hasn't passed yet :p* And yea I'm in the GTA-ish region, [York/Etobicoke? I think I'm pretty close to the dividing line for those areas XD] why do you ask? ^^; *locks doors and windows* rofl, just kidding :p Yo, Jessicat, if I end up going to Anime North, want to meet up? Nunuu, are you going? I've never really "met up" with anyone before, I've always just figured "yea, they're people on the internet, but they're not *real*" :B Unless you have a distinguishing costume to look out for?

I've got plans to be at Otakon and Comiket this year. Travelling to two opposite sides of the world for two cons; my wallet's gonna love it.

Next up is Otakon its about 2 months away and i haven't done anything concerning cosplay.. maybe I'll just dress as a wall... I think AUSA might be something I'd go to again. anyone here going to either Otakon or AUSA?

I really have no energy for anime cons anymore.
It's a good thing video game cons have next to no TEEHEEHEES or giggly hyper girls or stupid idiots with GLOMP ME signs.
....
Someone should have a counter-sign that reads something like "For a good time, punch the person with the GLOMP ME sign."
There was or is(?) a "mature" (as in only folks 20-something+ are allowed to go???) anime con somewhere in the US though, isn't there?

Otakon doesn't allow "Glomp Me" signs anymore. Actually, they don't allow ANY signs anymore, claiming that they're the equivalent of panhandling and/or soliciting sexual favors, and are thus illegal in the state of Baltimore. (: That's a good thing but the TEEHEEHEE, hyper teenyboppin' girls aren't banned.

If there is a Falcom Panel being held this year at Otakon, then I would definitely be trying to make it this year. I'm not much for anime anymore these days save for a few series, so the Falcom panel would be my reasoning for driving (or flying) up to Baltimore.

Wyrdwad basically encouraged jailbait. They may be of age, doesn't mean its alright

That was one of the best policies ever made. Along with getting rid of Yaoi or whatever paddles as well. And the best part, especially from the "I'm a jerk" perspective, was being part of Special Ops when they first instantiated the no signs rule and getting to take/destory people's signs. Now if only Otakon could just outlaw 4chan memes as a whole... EDIT: heh.. accidentally said "we". Nope, I'm inactive Otakon staff now, only acting as a music gaming adviser.

Sounds good to me Tom. I hope they'll approve the Falcom panel. I'll definitely try to make it there at least for the day of the panel. : )
Edit: How soon would you all know whether or not there would be a Falcom panel? If possible I'd like go ahead and purchase a ticket / hotel room while I can still find a deal perhaps!

18 is the OPPOSITE of jailbait, though - it's entirely legal! And I've actually ALWAYS been of the mindset that age shouldn't have any bearing on romance. Just because someone is significantly older or younger than you doesn't mean you can't love that person, or that person can't love you! -Tom My problem with that is that someone who is 18 is still developing emotionally. Takin' 'em young and raising them up to be your dream girl is soooo 19 century. In my mid 20's I was okay with someone as young as 21 just so there wasn't any weirdness about buying alcohol, but now mid-20's is my minimum. That way they're out of college, are pretty set personality-wise, and have a good idea where they want to go. And studies have shown that smarter people (the ones most likely to seem more mature) are the ones who are slower to develop socially. Hell, I know people thought I had the mindset of a 30 year old when I was a teenager but I know now how immature I was as a person. There are just some things in life you have to experience to really grow. Anyone going to Otakon, check the video game room. The place is awesome. And also report back how the new guy is doing with the music gaming section. I haven't heard anything from him yet and I'm gettin' worried how things are gonna be run this year... if at all.

I haven't heard anything from him yet and I'm gettin' worried how things are gonna be run this year... if at all. I remember when it was lame and sad and in a small room. :( This was back in 2000 or 2001, I think. Still, Otakon will always be miles ahead of Anime North in my mind. AN typically takes place in one of those warehouse-like convention centers with the cold concrete floors with sections divided by drapes or something. Very ghetto. Dunno if they changed it recently but the last time I was there was 3 or 4 years ago. But they do have panels and events in the nearby hotels too so those are less pathetic looking. Ugh. I can't check LiveJournal right now but I do have photos from one of the last times I went to AN.
