So you're pretyt much saying that few of the Tales games even deserve to be localized.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see all the Tales games get localized, but personally, I don't care if they do. I import the Tales games from Japan, so whether or not they are in English doesn't matter to me, I'll still play the games.

Then there's people like me who don't get the whole 'importing an RPG if you can't understand it' thing.

I figure "Enjoy the gameplay first, understand the story later", but that's just me. I'm just one in a minority.
Regardless, I'm hoping for Graces F to come out sometime soon. That's currently the only one I truly care about, as far as localization goes.
There's an English patch being worked on, but that would involve jailbreaking your PS3. I don't know if that would mess up the PS3 or not.
Anywho, a PC version of Ys Seven would be interesting. A console version would be too, especially if it was multiplayer.

The whining of the Tales fans has been noticed by various internet sites and message boards who laugh at them (and sometimes pity them), but Bamco themselves aren't caring. In fact, every time they say something, the situation seems to grow more hopeless. As much as I like the Tales games I've played and would like more to be localized, I've long since realized this is a naive hope that most likely leads to nothing but disappointment.
Also, experiencing the gameplay first and then the story later is a concept that doesn't work, at least not for me. For example, let's say there's a game called Tales of HJia that has four characters called A, B, C and D, and then let's say D turns out to be a traitor and he's actually the final boss. You won't know what D is saying when he betrays the others, but you do know he's a traitor, which is the most crucial information of all.

If such a situation came about in a Tales game, a translated script would come in handy. We've gotten most of the mothership titles in English, and the ones that haven't either have translations being worked on or subbed videos on YouTube.
I'd appreciate it if we moved on back to the main topic. I didn't come here to argue about Tales.

[whining] but I waaaaaaant theeem!!!!!! I do find it ironic that we still get Dragon Quests, which tend toward weak stories and old school systems while technically superior games are neglected. I do love DQ, but I'd actually expect Tales to do better with the preferences of the western market. As for importing foreign games: it's a good way to motivate oneself to learn a language. One glance at Ys Origin and SnK gets me off my lazy ass to study. The minority seems pretty big, as I've heard a lot of people talk about playing games without understanding them, and read things like "can't wait for the patch, I've already beaten the game twice and would love to understand it!" Personally, I couldn't even play an action game with barely any story if I couldn't understand it. I tend to value plot above all, and would even sacrifice gameplay for a good story. patch is for wii too, and the site offers a program called riivolution (I think that's right) which will allow the patched disc to run on western wiis. The project seems to have a steady progression as well, so we may not have to wait too terribly long for it. (I'm not so hopeful for the Tales of Hearts patch.) And HJ, we already know you're a traitor, no matter what language you're speaking in.

I could care less about the story of a game. If I can understand it at the time, I'll pay attention, but if I can't, then I'll play the game and then find some way to read the story. There are some games, like Final Fantasy and Ys, where I refuse to play them in anything but English, since those are more story based games, or at least have more story in them. I'm weird, I know.

Maybe not, but still, I'd rather play Ys in English. I guess I'm too much of a Tales fanboy to care about what language it's in.

See, I find the stories in Ys to be typically self expanatory, and could probably pick up on things even without understanding it. I'd still want to understand it to play it, but seeing I play Ys for the gameplay, I could probably manage.
Tales. . . never. The battle system is great and addictive, but going through long cutscenes without understanding half of it, and reading the skits without being able to pause it and check a kanji dictionary would drive me nuts. Even during Abyss I flipped once or twice when a skit flashed by too fast for me to read.

I do love DQ, but I'd actually expect Tales to do better with the preferences of the western market. It probably has something to do with Nintendo actually giving a damn about what DQ fans think, hence why 9 and 6 are being published by them. I think that if the series stayed in SE's hands outside of Japan it would have fallen through, because SE only seems to care about franchises that start with "Final" and end with "Fantasy". Namco, on the other, is just... ugh.

At least we're getting God Eater!
Even if Namco isn't publishing it.

I just started playing the original JP release again a few days ago. I'm going to try to finish it soon, since I finally beat Uroboros and made it to chapter 6.

God Eater was fun?
I think I played about 3 missions or something of the demo and then dropped it. I really don't think the whole Monster Hunter genre is for me.
'Course, I've never played an MH game before. XD!

Myself, I really don't want to buy a PS3. I've had nothing but disk errors with all three of my sony non-portables, and memory cards with histories of frying. Even if its a new disk medium, and no memory cards, I feel sony is a little dishonest with its customer base, and I dont want to vote for them with my dollars. I don't have many of them, and buying the recent Ys games new instead of used so we might get more translated officially is something my entertainment budget doesn't like. That said, I wont lie and say when I already own a Wii and a 360 that I wouldn't enjoy achieving the modern version of my childhood dreams - to own all of the major consoles of the current generation. If Falcom gave me a good enough excuse, say, Ys Origin and Ys Seven console ports with new features... I might just have to find a way to get a used PS3 and vote to keep my only local game shop around Come on falcom, do it!

That said, I wont lie and say when I already own a Wii and a 360 that I wouldn't enjoy achieving the modern version of my childhood dreams - to own all of the major consoles of the current generation. Been there, done that. <_< (though usually after the next generation has started coming out) Konami has been leaning towards the next IIDX home release being for PS3. Last night I was pondering if being able to play IIDX on a native HD system with reduced (or no) display lag and DLC support would be enough to get me to purchase a PS3. If Falcom also starts supporting the PS3 and IIDX 17 SIRIUS comes out on PS3, it would soften the blow of having to buy one. On the other hand, PS3 IIDX would also include having to buy all new controllers most likely. On the other other hand, Falcom isn't the largest game company around and it is far, far, far cheaper to develop for portables and turn a good profit than for the PS3 or 360

Wow, that's some horrible luck. :( Kind of sounds like Justinzero's crappy luck with PSPs. ^^;;;; I have 1 PlayStation, 2 PS2s, and 1 PS3 and they're all working fine. :o I'm hoping to see some Falcom-made game on the PS3 one day but not sure how likely that'll be. :\ And hey, you live in the US! How about some cheap $39.99 PS3 then? (Actual store links: www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-80-GB/dp/B001COU9I6 and www.target.com/dp/B0009VXAM0/)
