Dark Revenant was great, as is Xanadu Next. But XN came out in 2005...that's 5 1/2 years ago. I also see what you mean, but my argument is that they shifted from a certain aesthetic to a newer one that favors bright/happy stuff a lot a lot a lot more. As I said, they always had stuff like Popful Mail, but it was kind of the exception to the rule. I haven't even mentioned some of the really old and funky stuff like Asteka and the pre-Dragon Slayer games, which were even more off-the-wall, including a couple horror games. Really doesn't feel like 5 years since Xanadu came out... oh how time flies. Admittedly I'm not the best person to be having this discussion with, seen as I'm a pretty new Falcom fan anyway. I really do think we'll see more of those kinds of games though, but I do expect them to be the exception. So long as they'll turn a profit (I would've thought 20k plus sales was enough to make one on Revenant) there doesn't seem to be any reason why they couldn't make more occasionally, especially if it's for the PSP where the necessary sales threshold for profit is lower. I guess we'll find out next time they leak their upcoming titles list. Zero no Kiseki is the last game on that list we got a few years ago (with Versus being the only one that wasn't on it, I think), so it's entirely unknown territory after it's out. It'd be nice if there's at least one game to appeal to your tastes. (Preferably not too many though because I prefer the Sora no Kiseki/Ys/Gurumin side of things)

I could get on board with them doing away with overly cutesy stuff though. The world only needed one Gurumin and maybe that was even going a little overboard >_>

Hmm, I don't think I get to comment seeing as how I adore Loco Roco. If there's any game that's the opposite of dark, it's that one.
@floofy, hj Yeah, I've heard a lot of those games are good. The ones that are on the 360 I've probably played and enjoyed, but the other ones aren't enough for me to buy the system. I know I'd like Uncharted, the price tag is just a little too steep for me without a confirmed Ys game.
One of my friends played Valkyrie Chronicles and said it didn't keep his attention that well and thought it was a little overrated.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean it changes the player's perception of the game. If someone finds the visuals too cute, it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks, they still had their experience ruined or lessened.

I find it interesting how everyone considers it so hard to switch platforms for a small company. I just wanted to make a few points about software development that should put some worried minds to rest.
It is never hard to switch platforms in today's rapidly evolving software environment.
From personal experience developing for all of the modern game devices (iPhone, PSP, DS, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC, Mac, Linux) I've found all of the libraries very often compliment each other if not all run on the "same" libraries!
For instance, from the graphics and game engine standpoint, the PSP, PS3, iPhone, Mac, Linux, and PC are all capable of running each other's OpenGL based media.
As for the Xbox 360 and the PC, their content is practically the same. Xbox 360 code can be converted to run on a PC in a matter of minutes (no joke).
After that, it's merely a trick of getting your media onto the disc and out into the market. Most of your code can quickly be re-engineered within a couple of months, if not weeks. (How do you think they release games for the PS3, PC, Xbox 360, and Wii all at once?)
Just my two cents, hope it defends Falcom's stability a little bit more.

That, though, is the equivalent of outright rejecting a blind date because she's too fat. It's uncouth at best, and rather horrible at worst. And either way... it's pretty shallow! It's also often what makes or breaks sales though especially in Western culture where cute == for girls or children and general turn off for male players. Remember that a lot of people judge games from gameplay videos and their screenshots and all. If you can compile a story trailer of sorts for the SnK games or any cute looking game then that may help? I dunno.

The unofficial announcement of Falcom dropping PC support becomes a heated discussion about the "darknes" of the games.
but back to the main point. I think it would be great if Falcom made a game for either 360 or PS3. PS3 would be better because of the bigger user base in Japan. especially the Ys games belong on a console IMO.

I would say they'll go Sony because of the previous 3rd party games being on the PS2 but it's hard to tell these days with companies randomly releasing games on the 360 and all that.
(Please let it be the PS3 so I won't need to go buy at 360!!)

i got both consoles, so no worries for me, it's just that the userbase in Japan with PS3 consoles is many times bigger, numbers don't lie:
it's just a safer bet for Falcom to go PS3 or PSN

Just as long as it's not Wii. I love the Wii but it wouldn't be a good fit for Falcom games.

I think the 360 is as... "un-Falcomy" as anything could get. That, and I don't own one. And unless Ace Attorney becomes a 360 exclusive, I'm not getting one.

I find it interesting how everyone considers it so hard to switch platforms for a small company. I just wanted to make a few points about software development that should put some worried minds to rest. There's just this popular image that the PS3 is 'oh so hard and expensive to develop for' that a lot of people can't seem to shake, regardless of the fact it's really not true. Personally I just hope they move off handhelds. PS3 is my console of choice, but 360 would be fine (though it would sell like crap), and Wii okay too. I think PS3 is the most likely though.
