Yes, announcement of an announcement, who doesn't hate these things by now.

I just wish they'd announce it in spring instead of telling us now they're going to announce it in spring and having us wait, build up expectations, and possibly be disappointed. My little "If you have to announce an announcement, that announcement is going to suck" rule has yet to be proven wrong.
If it's an awesome new title like Gurumin was then awesome, though. Hopefully it will be, seen as the only Falcom franchise I know I don't like is Brandish the law of averages is in favour of it.

I hate how popular announcing an announcement has gotten. Now even Falcom is doing it!
I do wonder what this'll be, but to be honest I would prefer another Ys game. I mean, Gurumin was nice, but gameplay-wise it was just a worse version of the more recent Ys games.

A new original title will be very interesting indeed. Almost definitely on the PSP?

Not surprisingly, I disagree with you, HJ. Gurumin is one of my favorite Falcom games of all time, and I don't really think it plays ANYTHING like Ys -- it's more like Mario 64 or something! The only thing holding it back from greatness, in my mind, is a crappy camera. -Tom Not surprisingly indeed! At least we agree on the camera, though. Also, don't get me wrong, I liked the game quite a bit. Still, everything about the gameplay screamed "Ys Lite" to me.

I hope they'll continue to diversify when it comes to the overall theme for the OST for original titles. They've covered Celtic, Japanese, Electronic and Ambient so far, so I anticipate their choices heartily. If not, the usual would be awesome too. Still, everything about the gameplay screamed "Ys Lite" to me. More like Zwei!! 1.5!!

While announcements of announcements are just fricking annoying, the knowledge that there's going to be an all new game is pretty cool. Be interesting to see what kind of game they're going to make this time. Not that this reduces at all my hopes for Falcom's next year output I posted in the anniversary topic of course.

Hey, Varion? What's your source, so I can throw it onto Esterior when I update again? gamenyarth.blog67.fc2.com/blog-entry-8215.htmlwww.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/11/09/flying_get_d_edition/#2 goes into more detail but seems confused - first on whether it'll be announced or released in spring (#1 is quite clear on 'announced'), and now there seems to be a summary of the interview floating around that doesn't mention the original title bit. Sigh. No idea what's going on. Also: I need this interview :l I didn't know you didn't like Brandish! Have you tried the PSP version? It's much more accessible than the original... -Tom That's the version I played, yeah (picked it up on release for the soundtrack mostly). My main problem was how it played - the whole turn the world style of movement made combat especially feel really slow, stiff and unpleasant to control. The atmosphere, music etc were nice, but I really wasn't having much fun actually playing it, so I ended up selling it back after a while.

We still have not seen the outcome of nippon's meeting with Falcom earlier this year.

I love these kinds of announcements. "We're working on something!" Yes, I think everyone assumed that...
About the interview, Falcom said on their twitter that it'll answer the question of who is strongest (Cassius, Loewe or Arios).

On that note, I swear they threw in that line in 3rd about Lowe one day surpassing the Seventh Pillar (and did the realization that you'd one day have to fight someone better than Lowe send chills up anyone else's spine?) just to tease us with the prospect of seeing it happen one day, ending of SC nonwithstanding. Between Cassius, Lowe and Arios though, my money's on Cassius.

Well, you can probably break it into categories.
Sword skills: Loewe
Organizing campaigns and raising children: Cassius
Arriiving on time and looking good in a jacket: Arios (well, okay, and sheer speed in fulfilling requests)

Isn't Nippon Ichi Japan having financial troubles? D: I'm thinking that might affect a partnership or whatever they were discussing with Falcom.

Yeah, the music is deffinitly not Ys, it's goofy. To me, Gurumin is like a goofy cartoony Ys-ish game, but like I said, I do see Zwei! influence in it as well.

You know, I wonder if the meeting between Nippon Ichi and Falcom is the result of this game being made: nisamerica.com/games/cladun/Looks cool and I've been wanting to try it out, but at $19.99 download only on PSP with no demo, I'd like to know what people think first as to whether it is a good buy. -Thomas

I'm pretty sure ClaDun was already released in Japan before the N1/Falcom meeting. But it's a viable theory, nonetheless.
I've heard it has quite a few issues, but if you can look past them, it's worth trying. Can't say for myself, or if it's worth the $20, but I want to play it, too~

Every source I've checked has said it was released in Japan on February 19. Don't mean to argue, I just don't know which one of us is right!

I'm just curious what's Ys-ish about it, though. Like, I'm not trying to be belligerent -- I'm honestly curious! Because absolutely NOTHING about the game seems Ys-ish to me in any way. Item and equipment management, story, gameplay, visuals, music, game structure... not a single part of it has ANY resemblance to any existing Ys game! I'm really baffled that anyone can find anything Ys in it whatsoever, save for "To Make the End of Digging" -- and even THAT'S a stretch! -Tom According to critics, it's more like Legend of Zelda!
