The first Harvest Moon rules, as do Harvest Moon 64. As for the others: I have no idea.

More PS2 ports for the Wii... That's sad.

Yeah, everyone hates it when developers pull that crap. Still, it this is true, Wii's also getting Tales of Harmony... that's not a port, as far as I know.

Huh. Yet I hear nothing but praise here when PSP gets ports. Weird.

Old news, sir. But yeah.. it's also an action RPG with an online mode, talk about a crazy change up, but I say BRING IT! Dragon Quest is one of my favorite series; this news made me happy because I was worried that I might have to buy a PS3 (of course, Kingdom Hearts III is still pending, *shudder*).

It's gonna be slow having developers get used to the idea of Wii and it's controls (and it's only been about 3 months), but I'm sure we'll be seeing better, original uses of the remote in the future. Right now, developers are avoiding risks with different methods such as taking current franchises and substituting wii controls for things that would otherwise be a button press. In some cases it works out better than buttons (i.e. makes you more immersed), but it's true that there needs to be more games built from the ground up for the remote. Elebits is one of the few games built for wii that can't be replicated on another console, from what I've read. Trying to get back on topic, the same thing happened with the DS. It took quite a few months for the DS to get it's first, real, good made-for-ds games... like Meteos and Kirby's Canvas Curse (perfect example of making a made-for-DS game with an existing franchise). Those are still the best games for the system, imo. On top of that, it took a while for 3rd parties to warm up to the system as well. I haven't been playing much DS lately, but that'll probably change with Custom Robo this March

Anyone have any recent suggestions for DS games. I'm going on a long bus ride for a school trip (Washington DC for a week), and needed something to play. I was thinking about Lunar Knights, because I really enjoyed all three Boktai games (liked the first two enough to import the third), but I've read some mixed opinions. So...any help?

Anyone seen the new Zelda Phantom Hourglass videos? Or has anyone picked up the import? It looks amazingly fun, I think it's gonna be the best game of the year... and way better than Twilight Princess (at least, for me it will be).

I've played it for a bit. Seems nice. I just think it is very unnecessary to force the player to use the touch screen for everything. I wish I could move around with the d-pad, as you get no precision whatsoever using the stylus. Imagine playing Ys6/YsF/YsO with a mouse (with full 360 degree movement). It's just like that, only Link is actually animated. The graphics are pretty nice and stuff. Seems like a good game, but I'm afraid to try it more. I don't wanna ruin the game by not playing it in English. Oh, by the way- you can skip EVERY SINGE CUTSCENE! Awesome!!

Funny... it's the forcing of making you use the stylus that everyone loves about this game. Stick to TP, FM It just might be the last of it's kind. The next Zelda will be only on Wii and that will be an even more drastic departure. I want to try tingle too because it looks like it might present some laughs along side some fun gameplay, but I think it's only been announced for Europe, right? but I guess I could import...

Actually, if you head over to NeoGAF and check out the Phantom Hourglass import thread, everyone is absolutely raving about the touchscreen controls. Not surprising. When Nintendo decides to invest in new control mechanics, they usually do 'em right. Say what you will about their software, 90% of their games control excellently. They're known for defining genres through excellent controls.
Pity the localized version won't be ready until Q4 07, likely. :/

Funny, I've often seen the word "gimmick", along with many other words, being thrown around message boards as if it's lost meaning. But it's usually never used that way about the Wii... unless you're on a Sony board (they've got some nice people, but all boards have their idiots... or in our small case, just one that's banned ). A gimmick is a marketing term used to describe an empty idea used to make something look original or stand out, but really ends up being of very little use and importance. You've said this about the Wii remote, but all of the good games I've played on it work flawlessly and would not be the same at all without the remote. I have no idea what game you played or in what conditions you played your Wii in (or where you played it. did you just pick up the remote at some store? the settings must have been screwed with in that case), but to me you're the first person who's said the Wii remote doesn't work the way it should. I've only read about skeptics being proven wrong. That's probably why you've never seen more people complain about it... because theres nothing to really complain about (besides little nitpicks for certain people, like the sensor bar not being wireless). Even with the initial fears that room lighting and distance from the sensor bar would mess up the experiance for most people, it seems everyone is buying the thing and enjoying it without complications. also with the DS, it can't be a gimmick if it works the way it's supposed to and the way it's supposed to work is not as a gimmick but as a new way to play games. Games like Metoes and Kirby's Canvas Curse, which are both highly acclaimed and well sold game, would not work with anything but a touch screen. It really depends on the game as to whither or not the peripherals are being used as gimmicks. A baseball game that uses wii remote flicking to replace a button used to swing the bat is gimmicky. A game that allows you to navigate menus with the pointer, aim weapons with it, turn a car's steering wheel with extra precision, and calculate how fast you want a ball thrown with your movements is not gimmicky. I've been reading some impressions for Geometry Wars for Wii and DS... it sounds amazing. It sounds like they've implemented the controls for both versions flawlessly. For quite some time it was my one and only reason to want a 360, but I guess not any more. It's even retained the 360 version's visual greatness for Wii too. The DS version doesn't look as good, of course, but it's amazing how even that tiny screen was able to get so populated.

If you play a RTS game like Settlers or Anno 1701 on the DS, you know why they created the DS, portable RTS gaming . RTS is now no longer fixed to PC. touch screen > mouse.

As for the Wii I was using, I was playing Wii Sports at a friend's house, on his Wii that he plays all the time. And my other friend, who also has a Wii of his own, said that his Wii does the same thing, and he's always wondered why it's so "jerky". There's quite a few things that can lead to the pointer seeming jerky. Lighting in the room, another IR source like a candle, the distance from the remote, the sensitivity setting, and I've read that sometimes even the rumble being on effects the pointer function in certain games (like Red Steel, which is a pretty messed up game as far as control goes anyways). Despite all this, most people rarely find a problem that can't be easily fixed. And if you were playing Wii sports, that game has more than pointer functionality for you to test. Didn't you find bowling or tennis to work? I personally love Boxing the most, but that takes a some practice to play properly. As for the gimmick thing... naturally I just took it for it's actual use, which is in negative connotations. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimmick
