www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3156904I just love news like this that is completely unforecasted. Yes, Rondo of Blood the most wanted Castlevania game to be released in the US is finally making it. And if you thought that wasnt enough, a 3D remake of the game will be included. Oh and to mark the 10th anniversarry of Symphony of the Night, it will also be included while getting a more polished localization. Oh, you dont have a PSP, you might want one now.

Honest to God.. I was playing Portrait of Ruin this morning and was thinking how great it'd be to have a Rondo/Symphony combo on the DS. Seriously. Of course, I'm kind of bummed it's on PSP.. but it's still cool. The 3D version looks like shit and the music sounds equally crapped on.. but if the original is on there it should be worth a buy to PSP owners. Still not enough to get me to buy one (I own both games already so I can't buy a system for ports).

The release of Rondo on PSP is actually a sad news for those who want Rondo+Symphony combo on DS since this means castlevania team won't do anything about Rondo for awhile. To make the situation worse, Symphony is scheduled to be ported on XBOX360 so that pushes our dream release even further back

I wouldn't be too surprised to see it moved to the PS2 shortly afterwards.. that seems to be the fate of PSP originals.. even though this barely counts as an original.

Nah, I doubt that castlevania team would put that much effort into it. Plus I would hate to see PS2 release anytime soon because 1. I don't want Rondo to be like other two PS2 castlevania games and 2. I have no intention of buying it until the team actually decides to spend some time developing the remake (i.e. harder difficulty settings, more bonuses, extended stories, and etc).

So far I previewed the first level and it plays exactly the same as the original just updated graphics. I sure hope there are some extras included to the remake as well.

I just meant that they'd probably port this PSP release to the PS2 at some point.. not that'd they actually remake Rondo again. The Rondo remake looks like ass anyway.. so it's not really a big loss; I'd pick it up if I already had a PSP.. but that's about it. Besides, it'd be impossible to do any of Alucard's special moves (SOUL STEAL!) with the PSP having no diagonals on the d-pad.

PSP... ;_; well, i've played both Dracula Xs anyways (so, at least it's the games ive already played that are being released on consoels I don't have). Still, the majority of Castlevania has been on Nintendo platforms so I know a lot of unlucky Castlevania fans who are probably making petitions as I type this. and those screens and art look kinda ugly. Same gripes I had with the PSP remake of Mega Man X, actually (except for the art. the X remake has some nice art). They went full 3D side-scroller this time... no high-res sprites used at all... ugh.

Still the fact that Rondo is getting a western translation and Symphony is getting a more polished western translation is positive aspects.

Personally, I want it to come out on Wii's Virtual Console, so I can play it with a controller on a TV.

of course this is a good thing. but since these systems seem to only get updates/ports/remakes of series I like, and not something new, it's hardly a reason for me to put more consideration in to getting them. I was pretty upset about PSP getting a remake of Mega Man X (one of my favorite games of all time), but I got over it... it wasn't really that big of a deal. I guess I'm just not that die-hard of a fan of any series to warrant putting a good amount of money on updates and remakes... except maybe Lufia.
it's good that more people get to play these games. I just wish they'd also consider simply translating and porting Rondo to Wii's VC since so many have been asking for it, and don't have any intention of getting PSPs.
Still, I will continue to be shocked at Japanese developers continuing to support the PSP so dearly. I guess in this case it's not so unbelievable as Castlevania is nearly invisible in Japan.

Still the fact that Rondo is getting a western translation and Symphony is getting a more polished western translation is positive aspects. What really needed to be polished though? The text was maybe about 0.01% of the game so it's not as important as the Final Fantasy games being retranslated up on the GBA. Plus, I think the awesomely over-acted opening has become too infamous for them to change!

the only good thing about SOTN for XBLA is that people who missed out will be able to play it. Somehow, I doubt it'll become the most popular XBLA download, though. Geometry Wars will stay on top.

Megaman X was a ok port to the PSP but the real great port was Megaman Powered UP. There was about 4 new bosses, level editor, online play, lots of minigames. It was what a remake is supposed to be like.
I agree that Dracula X didnt really need a English translation nor does Symphony need polish but its still a great idea and all on 1 disc. I would much rather this package be on a home console much like the new PSP Silent Hill Origins.

Yeah, Mega Man PU also looked decent in 3D due to its cartoony style compared to how poor the Mega Man X remake looked. I'm not really anti-3D (anymore) but you need the resolution to make it work.. and even the PSP's fairly decent sized screen (for a portable) doesn't cut it.

and think about the original game that Power Up was remaking... Mega Man 1... if they did the same with it that they did with the X remake it would have been a joke.
What makes me care even less about Maverick Hunter X is that I doubt I'd find it more enjoyable than the original. At least, I definitely didn't find the soundtrack as good. I think it'd be the same for this Rondo remake too (can't say about the soundtrack though... that's gonna be awesome, I think).
Why is it that both Konami and Capcom have decided to make their PSP remakes fully polygonal, though? Why the zero use of sprites? Personally, I think the polygonal characters and enemies in these games look strangely out of place. Is it the same as why the PS2 port of Ys VI didn't have any sprites, even as an unlockable?

Oh yeah, it's a good idea (the collection aspect).. but even as much of a fan I am of these two awesome titles, this is just another of several PSP games I'd consider something I would buy if I get a PSP.. not something I'd buy a PSP for.

That's why I want the developers to spend some time improving these remakes. If they don't do well, the developers just abandon them, leaving unhappy fans behind. Honestly, remakes should give the proof of development while maintaining the original's charm. And as for Lufia, excellent choice for a remake. This game has the potential to be a huge hit. I don't understand why no remake of this series has been released for any console.

What was played of the soundtrack to the Rondo remake sounded worse than the original music to me. Except for the boss music, that sounded very close (or maybe it was the same) as the PC-Engine version.

hmm, there's a video there? i'll have to check that.
I think SOTN on XBLA will be pleasing to fans who have played the game and want to play it again (and probably can't because they no longer have their PSX/Saturn copies or systems). This is because they left the game pretty much untouched, and it's been optimized for wide-screen. Fans looking for something more probably won't get it... still, the price should be good for what it is.
