That's pretty interesting. Finally a non-Metroid-ish Castlevania game. Richter sure walks like a fool, but it looks kinda fun. Will probably get this one sometime. Also: always nice to see new PSP exclusive games. ...I just can't get over the fact that this looks like a homemade game. It really, really does!

Yep it is level 1. There's no Super Nintendo "version" per se. That's actually an entirely different game. They share the same basic story and some level elements, but that's about it. This is a remake of the PC Engine game, so I guess that's why you're not familiar with it.

:/
Castlevania games on DS = yay! Castlevania games on PSP = yay! Castlevania games on PS2 = yay! Castlevania games on any system = yay! Castlevania remakes or ports = generally yay!
I don't think I mentioned it anywhere on this board but Curse of Darkness looks godawful after playing hours of Ys Origin and Final Fantasy XII. XD
And wyrdwad, the DS is NOT an annoying system to play on. >:E Though constantly needing the stylus in Kirby Squeak Squad was sort of annoying. I ended up just using my thumb to touch stuff on the touch screen. :P

Personally, I like Dracula X's difficulty. Given that Castlevania was born in being insanely hard and all.

Richter is probably my favorite belmont, with his blue attire and being a balance between more western muscular character and an average anime character (kind of like Ryu from SF). Way better than that overly popular Simon (Simon says... GRAVEYARD DUCK)... but I guess his popularity is justified. Deuce, you forgot to mention that the SNES version is only harder due to an overuse of the same annoying enemies...

Julius is cooler than Richter, as far as I'm concerned. That duel in Aria was sweet times.
Also, I do kinda have to agree it's a bit soon to say this is gonna be among a top five, wyrdy. Unless most of the ports you've played are really terrible =[

The stage 1 song sounds like a (sadly poor) version of the opening stage music from Castlevania 3. Other than that, I'm kinda excited, as I don't have the means or desire to acquire the Turbo CD version.

Rondo of Blood originally had the music "Bloodlines" playing in Stage 1, but in this remake it looks like they have replaced the stage 1 music with "Beginning" which was originally played during stage 4 in the original.
I like the use of more electric guitar in this version of Beginning, but it just seems much slower than usual, which really doesn't match the guitar, imo. I never liked Beginning all that much anyways, although I've enjoyed some faster remixes of it before.

They said the current music is only a placeholder. Don't count on them actually using this.

level 2 is up on gamevideos.com. The cross looks freaking sweet when thrown.
You gotta check out the Lego Streets of Rage video on gamevideos.com

hmm, so are they gonna release one for every stage or something? too bad it's not the final build... heh. Vampire Killer turned out ok. The beginning of it reminds me more of the original version than the Rondo version, though. but how are these only placeholders? they're going to completely rework the music and throw these away? and does anyone know if michiru yamane worked on these or not? if she did... I guess it's good that they're just place holders. there's also a "character 'debut' trailer" or something like that: www.gamevideos.com/video/id/8913OH, and check out the video interview with Iga on IGN. I havent seen it yet, i just found it while typing this post. Always good to see Iga, that guy's got some great style for a video game developer... I was worried that he had gotten rid of his hat since his last interview media.psp.ign.com/media/882/882267/vids_1.html

Whoo! Just watched a trailer of the game and it looks really nice! @_@~ I added it to my tracked games list at Gamespot. Now with this and Gurumin, it looks like it's time to shell out some moneys for a PSP. (I might not actually play Gurumin though ...)
Heeee~ Stomping Ritcher!!! XD

I pulled out my Duo-R after this announcement to fire up the original (I really need to send this in to have S-Video added to it.. it's the only system I still have to connect via icky composite). The game still holds up. It makes me wish they would make a new non-Metroid-clone Castlevania.

I disagree. SotN lacks one major ingredient the others tend to have to some degree. Challenge. SotN desperately lacks any real challenge; it's horribly easy to blow through. I have to go without equipment and spells for there to be any real effort to it.

That is true. IMO, SotN is far from the best of the Castleroids, the worst, is probably CotM(one of my favorite soundtrack's though) with SotN right above, then AoS, then HoD, then, I haven't decided where PoR lies, but, it's probably next, with DoS as my favorite. But, none of these games are obscure, so why are we talking about them here

Harmony of Dissonance had looting. I will always recall it fondly for that reason alone.
Also, normally I would agree with you Wyrdy, but there is a different between not difficult and not fighting back.

Perhaps. I prefer to think, though, that the game didn't scale to him rather than the other way 'round.

And as long as we can agree the Crissaegrim is cheating.
