and think about the original game that Power Up was remaking... Mega Man 1... if they did the same with it that they did with the X remake it would have been a joke. Just another reason why they should spend more time with remakes

If the developers add some new levels and playable characters then the remake would look much more desirable.

Guys... cut the crap. Seriously. If you're a die-hard MMX1 fan and you didn't like Maverick Hunter X, kill yourself. You fail. It's packed to the gills with ridiculous amounts of fanservice. It looks damn good, and the control is spot-on. If the presentation wasn't enough, the fantastic new animated segments and the inclusion of Vile as a playable character ought to seal the deal. Anyone saying it's a bad port either didn't play it, or they're still butt-hurt about 2.5D and need to get over it. This Rondo port is good news all around. And yes, I'm glad it's on PSP. I love my DS but it would not do this project justice. edit: For added emphasis, wyrdwad is right about PSP. It's great hardware, but I still want more kickass games for it. I got one with 1.5 two summers ago, and I never really regretted it, though I do regret that period where I let it collect dust and lost homebrew for a while in favor of new retail games. The new hacked firmware does it all, and it's great again. I also used to watch One Piece on it at work, and that helped too. Really, though, the point is that if you want to play Rondo on PSP right now, you can. But this... this is much nicer.

I just really want to try and support as few consoles/handhelds as I can this time around. If I can get everything I want for one platform, that'd be awesome. Honestly, when I see a system seller (a game that's really making ME want the system... like a brand new Castlevania that's a tie between SOTN and Rondo and takes place in 1999) for the PSP I might have to get it... but right now, anything that interests me is not enough to warrant shelling out the cash for one. If I had about $500 to spare I'd go get PSP along with MMPU, and save some for Castlevania (if it turns out better than I think), which is all I really want for the PSP (i cant think of more at the moment, but there's probably 1 or 2 other titles). Even if YsF came out on PSP, i'd rather stick with the PC version with an english patch and that's enough for me... it's not exactly a game I want on the go. This is how I feel about most PSP games that I care for.
I don't have it in me to carry around 2 handhelds... I've experienced over a dozen titles for the DS that I know I can't get anywhere else (this doesnt include games like MMZX and Castlevania DoS and PoR) and I'm much happier this way than with a handheld that's like a console in my hands.
Grave - I don't know if you're referring to me or a bunch of people, but I already said how although MMX is my favorite game of all time that no remake or vast amount of fanservice can warrant a purchase of a new console for me. I am not that die-hard of a fan for anything. I haven't played it so I don't actually know if it's better than the original. If I knew someone with a PSP I would have borrowed theirs and rented the game or something.
no one said they wanted this on DS either. I said this game was a GOOD thing. I would just rather have the original translated and re-released on the Wii's VC.
dang misconceptions due to poor reading.. ugh.

Ultimate Ghouls and Ghost is awesome. Just as freakin hard as the classic games and loaded with fanfare material up the wazoo. The one odd trick to the game is that if you can accumulate 30 lives then the game rewards you with infinite lives. I actually did this but had to save frequent and start all over numerous times at save points to prevent death while progressing. This is a great looking PSP game thats 2.5D.
I enjoyed Maverick Hunter X and am not nocking it, Megaman Powered Up just wins in terms of new content.

See, I think the PSP Mega Man games look great, and I also like the look of Ultimate Ghosts & Goblins. And based on the screenshots, I think the new 3D look of Rondo of Blood is also really cool. The PSP can pull off 3D really well, and is actually more suited to 3D than it is to 2D due to the high potential for motion blur in 2D games (avoidable if the port is good, but REALLY ugly if it isn't). And there's one main reason Japanese developers keep supporting the PSP: BECAUSE THEY KNOW WHAT'S UP!! You PSP naysayers should give the system a try sometime. My collection of PSP games has now passed the two-dozen mark, and it continues to climb... and at least 2/3 of them are absolute gems. It's a wonderful, wonderful system, and I've actually come to enjoy playing games on it even more than on my PS2! Just give it a try, and you'll see. Awesome system, with awesome games... and more awesome games coming out for it all the time! Heck, Gurumin in English is reason enough to buy one! Anyway, I'll stop now. I just felt compelled to jump to the PSP's defense here, since I'm not hearing much love for it in this topic. -Tom No one's bashing PSP here (at least not me). I am just displeased that no effort seems to be put onto the remake of Rondo on PSP so far as what people said about it / what I saw from it. I will probably think more about Rondo remake once I see more gameplays / screenshots or hear more soundtracks myself. Anyway, PSP is one of the consoles I want to get but can't (at least for next 2 years). Love to see what'll come out for that console this year.

Prince of Persia the Two Thrones is being ported to the PSP this year. A new Ratchet and Clank game. Silent Hill Origins looks promising. Oh ya, Falcom supports it with Gurumin (English version) coming out next week and Legend of Heroes 6 SC coming later this year.

Out of those, I'd like Gurumin. Although, I'd much rather import the PC version. It's not in english, but is it that important for Gurumin? A lot of you guys got through it without knowing Japanese and really enjoyed it, from what I've read... I just watched the video for the remake... sorry, but when I see this I get a feeling of cheapness This is just how i feel... the original game is leaps and bounds better looking, imo. the animation and sound effects need work, and the music has taken a fall. Is a small development team from Tose working on this? (I kid...) If I had a PSP, im sure i'd still pick it up despite my gripes...

This is slated for a fall release so theres plenty of time to add some new elements to the remake. Regardless of how it turns out, I've played the pants off the original so I'm welcome to just the new graphics and remix music.

but hey, as remakes go, this one looks like it might make the top five list. Based on WHAT? One level that was identical to the original with different graphics? That's more of a port than a remake.. why don't you wait until they show something of substance (ie: added content) before blindly fellating the game simply because it's on PSP.

Regardless of how it turns out, I've played the pants off the original so I'm welcome to just the new graphics and remix music. If they add anything new to it.. I'd simple welcome a few more levels and maybe some new sub-weapons. They could also add in some extra playable characters.. unlike the Metroid-style Castlevania games where the added playable characters are pretty much useless (once you remove the abilities and item collecting the main characters get).. new characters in Rondo would fit right in with the more straight-forward and action-based gameplay.

Hey, I wouldn't mind the 3D if they had made it actually look good using it... not easy to do. Anyways, no one seems angry over anything about this, so far as i've read. People may not prefer it, but I don't think anyone hates it and will not buy the game for that reason.
and you PSP owners have to admit that the game won't do nearly as well in sales compared to if it had been done on any other platform... it's the same thing that happened with the mega man remakes.
yeah, that PCE version being in the PSP remake is something I just learned @_@ that's a good thing for those who haven't played it. It'll be funny if everyone who buys this will be raving over the port of the original instead of the remake.

Even for a port, PCE version is a smarter choice. Hope they add in new materials other than what I saw so far; good games are just as fun to watch as to play.
And, BTW, no one is plannig to dismiss it. I am simply saying what I think of it so far from what I have heard and seen. These opinions are just as likely to change as they are created. I am waiting for its release and when it comes out, I will play it or at least see hundreds of others playing it and then ultimately decide.

Simple point of fact is this: if you haven't played it, then just shut up already. No one knows how it's going to turn out, and dismissing it simply because it's in 3D or on PSP is the act of a childish moron. Wow. Oh, and the boss music is the same in the video I've seen. Straight lift from the PCE version. The first stage music is a different track entirely (slower version of Beginning). That'll probably change, on both counts. Ah, I thought so. It's been a couple of years since I've last played it but I knew the level music was different.. I just figured it was a poor remix instead of something different. I did recognize the boss music at least. In that case, I'm at the very least hoping for a good remixed soundtrack.. the synth-rock of the original hasn't aged quite as well for me but the orchestral stuff is still solid though.

So it'll make Wyrdy happy, I'll make fun of the PSP!
Hey, it's another port!
But for serious, something like this, I want on a real TV.

The music alone in Dracula X warrants a purchase. The PCE version has outstanding remakes of classic castlevania tunes in addition to rememerable original tunes. I guess they could throw in the SNES version of Dracula X too but doesnt seem likely.
Hey Captain, I believe there is a peripheral that allows you to play the PSP on a T.V. screen. You still have to use the PSP as the controller though. PSP on T.V. is what its called. The device attaches to the screen of the PSP and magnifies the picture to your T.V. of choice.

Now: Is it a good transition?

I guess this thread has already become too much for some people to throughly read. When did anyone dismiss the game? Just because some people say they don't like how it's in 3D or on a platform they don't own doesn't mean they've suddenly dismissed the game. If we all had a PSP, we'd all be getting this thing, that's a fact.
and i've read that all of the portable Castlevanias have brought in respectable sales. not as good as SOTN, but still respectable... between 100K to 300K. Also, depending on you you ask, every game after the first one rules, too.
Just realized something... why is Beginning played during stage 1 instead of stage 4? Hmm... maybe that works out better, I guess. I look forward to hearing how bloodlines, vampire killer, cross a fear, and bloody tears turn out. Unfortunately, beginning has failed me...
like The Captain, the main reason I would like this on Wii's VC is actually because i'd prefer to play it on TV too, actually. A perfect port of the original, but translated (even if it weren't i'd be fine with that). I'm loving Super Castlevania IV on VC right now, it's just like the original. and same with all of the handheld Castlevanias... It would have been awesome to see how they would have turned out on a console at SOTN's level of visuals and sound, or even better. Rondo's US release is so long overdue, though... this should have been done on the PS2.

SO excited about this game. Never played Rondo, so just a port would have warrented a buy, but a 2.5D remake (and I do love 2.5D - <3 UG&G) is a very nice addition. Not to mention SOTN, although I've played it to death (and just recently on my PSP too). Still, looking foward to this one.
