And a full 3.50 downgrader has just been released!! Now every single PSP anywhere (even those still sitting in stores, unsold) is capable of being downgraded to 1.50, and from that magic sweet spot, a custom firmware can be installed, unlocking the PSP's FULL potential! Hahahaha.
I just walked a buddy of mine who lives on the other side of the nation through the downgrade, and I can personally confirm that it works!

Hmm, I wonder if I should downgrade mine. I say this, cuz I'd like to try the software that makes the PSP playable on PC moniters.

I thought I saw it in one of the PSP threads here, but, after some searching, I didn't find it

I managed to snag a copy of Lumines from Toys R Us.ca before it went out of stock (AND before they did a 51% price drop -- those bastards!! >:(!!) I played a bit of the game before I dropped down to 1.50 and man, I suck at it. I can't even do the first puzzle. :P The first song's annoying too. And about that PSP to monitor thing, just Google it. ^-^ I came across a news update on it but didn't really read up on it cuz I'm not as interested as playing PSP stuff on a computer/TV monitor as I am with PS games on the PSP. Hoorays for 3.40 OE and homebrew goodness! Whee to experiencing Tales of Fandom Vol. 1 silliness all over again. I never did get very far in that game when I was goofing around on it on the PS. ^^; And the second volume is out now for the PS2. DDDDDDDD:

I've since used that 3.50 downgrader a second time. I'm 2 for 2 now!

A new smaller, brighter-screened recreation of the PSP was shown today at Sony's E3 press conference. I saw a pic of it somewhere but didn't make note of it... looks mostly the same to me, though. A side by side comparison of the new one and the original would help. EDIT: found it again - PSP Slimmore info/pics: kotaku.com/gaming/e307/new-psp-models-up-close-277450.phpkotaku.com/gaming/e307/psp-slim-packshots-277520.phpno one really likes it when Nintendo pulls one of these with their handhelds, at least initially, but at least those seem to be drastic enough changes to warrant the buy. Maybe this is just more incentive for those without one to go buy one now. I would if there were more games for it that I'd be interested in buying.

Dag nabbit, now I gotta debate if I should sell off my old PSP, to get the new one, or just buy this new one someday as a 2nd PSP. I mainly want it for 2 things, video out, & longer battery life. Unless Sony figures out some way, the older PSP's can be used on a tv as well. Maybe something similar to the software thet enables it to be played on a moniter.

This is the way the PSP should have been earlier on... like from the beginning. This solves most of my problems with the hardware (except for one important one: button/control layout)... especially the battery life. It's really just about getting more exclusives now. I've been hearing some buzz about this new one shown at the conference called Echochrome, but I don't know anything about it beyond the name. I tried to keep an eye out for a video of it but didn't even find an article on it.

I consider the new PSP a bit of a joke. Slimmer? That's the PSP's problem in the first place! It's so thin it hurts to hold it. Brighter screen? Are they mad? Using the brightest setting (or even the "battery killer brightness" that was added by the custom firmware) makes the screen so bright it practically hurts to look at it. Hope they don't make the same mistake that Nintendo did with the DS lite, where the brightest setting makes the colors bleed. THAT's not pretty! The only useful feature is the video out feature (for us pirates anyway. What's an UMD? What's loading times?), even though it seems rather unnecessary as well. As for the battery life... well, I've never understood the problem with it. My battery lasts for a little over 10 hours, well over any other handheld I've ever had. Again, maybe it's because I'm a pirate. Running games from the memory stick might not draw as much power as spinning a so called "UMD" (still unfamiliar with those) does.

Like I said, it's probably just more incentive for those without one to get one now. Maybe you guys are just too used to the original model or, more likely, you are just crazy I also like how they apparently have made the D-pad feel more like a D-pad. but I find it odd that this remodeling looks nearly identical to the original... not much of a remodeling. Or maybe I'm just too used to the drastic changes Nintendo usually makes with their remodels. Also, this model will be replacing the old one and taking the price back up to the original price... that price cut a while back is useless now oh yeah, and check out a video of echochrome some time, it's a great idea and looks like a lot of fun.

Wait, it looks like the price is the same. Correct me if I'm wrong, but right now, for 169.99 you can buy a bare bones PSP, & when this new one comes out, you can buy a bare bones PSP for the same price. Infact, I haven't even seen a value pack in awhile, what's the price on one? 199 for the ones with games n stuff ain't that bad, & they have a 1 gig card, as opposed to the 32 MB the old one had.
With that said, it looks like my bro is going to buy my PSP for $120, so I can get the new one. I think it's a decent price, & it'll give me money towards the new one, instead of me having one old, one new.

Yeah, I'm not too keen on this PSP redesign. I was expecting quite a bit more, honestly. Not liking the price, either, but we've seen again and again that Sony's utterly clueless in that regard anyway. :/

It looks like Dark-AleX stopped making custom firmwares for PSP. Hopefully someone will take his place... And... DONE! www.qj.net/PSP-custom-firmware-CFW-v3-51-M33-now-out/pg/49/aid/97481I haven't used it yet, but it's confirmed to be working. It's essentially everything that DAX's 3.51 OE-A was going to be before he shut his operations down. BAM! That didn't take long at all!

Did I read correctly, that to hook up the new PSP to a regular TV, I'll need to buy a bunch of adapter's?? I have no intention of wasting money on an HD tv, while I have 2 perfectly working old school TV's. So, I guess I gotta go Frankenstein on it then

the whole new "longer battery life" thing is a joke. the slim PSP will get a new more powerful battery, that will probably hit the streets for the old PSP some time in the future.

Well, Sony's 'Stamina' Battery for the regular PSP hit over a year ago. I have it. 2200mah, iirc, compared to the original's 1800mah.

You'll need a progressive-scan TV (not the same as HD!), and one cord. No biggie! -Tom Well, I don't have a progressive scan tv, & I don't need a new tv, all of mine work great, so, I'm gonna need some adapter's or something
