But what could it be? Maybe you guys can guess at it better than I can... “Next month’s cover story is an RPG so fantastic, so engrossing, so epic, and so hush-hush that we’d have to erase your memories if we told you what it is. In fact, maybe we already did. Role-playing fans, get ready for a big one.”If it were my way I'd want it to be a new Lufia, of course but realistically the only RPG series that's probably the most possible for the Wii, and one that I want, is a new Earthbound/Mother. I highly doubt it's a new FF or DQ, though, and I'm personally glad about that. It likely has something to do with "erase your memory". Again, the closest thing I can think of is Earthbound (it doesn't have memory erasing, but it sounds like something that would fit in with the series). I also though "Chrono Trigger", but that's time travel, not memory erasing. Maybe it has something to do with amnesia? I don't think it's an Action-RPG or Strategy-RPG either. They probably would have stated that then. It's most likely traditional. EDIT: I just realized they didn't mention a specific platform, but it's being unveiled in the next Nintendo Power so it should be on a Nintendo platform. So Wii/DS.

hehe... well, you got the "erase your memory part", but forgot the "fantastic, engrossing, and epic" part

There is already a Ghostbusters game announced for the Wii... and I doubt there'd be two different projects for the series at the same time this day and age, furthermore I'd doubt anyone would do an RPG based on it

I just heard from a friend who got the latest Nintendo Power. He said the game in question is a Sonic RPG, and the issue devotes seven pages to it. I haven't seen it myself, but it's something I would love to play.

Sonic RPG? That can only be bad.

Sonic RPG? That can only be bad. Depends; Bioware is making a Sonic game and they do reasonably well with their RPG games, though it hasn't been said the game is by them. While I'm sure none of them met your standards, Baldur's Gate 2 has stolen many hours of my life. Not counting Knights of the Old Republic or Planescape Torment. edit: Upon checking their site, they are indeed making a RPG Sonic game for the DS. Linkage

Then I can only hope for an Earthbound release.

Yeah, the new RPG is not Sonic RPG. I've seen screens of Sonic RPG though and It surprisingly looks Japanese-made to me... not something you'd expect from Bioware at all. I thought they'd definitely try to make it fully 3D. Maybe it's just the use of Sonic characters and the 2D look that makes it seem Japanese. well, here's the scans if anyone wants to see them. And here's some info on the game. I've never cared for Sonic games, so I'm not exactly waiting for this one. and I think the Ghostbusters game has been confirmed to be a third person shooter. It's exactly what you'd expect from a Ghostbusters action game. So you guys don't know of any past RPGs that have memory erasing or amnesia in it?

Just like every other game by whoever developed that one. Nobody likes their games. Nobody wants their games. And yet, there's always a whole lot of hype for them until they get released.
Why?

Grasshopper's game are usually hyped before release because people feel they look like good, unique games that deserves to sell well. And usually, that's how they do turn out... yet they still sell very poorly. It happened with Killer 7 too. Hopefully for them it doesn't happen with No More Heroes as well. And a lot of people do like their games, they're cult hits.

I am hoping for a unique title with no connection to any other series.

gah, why do I keep forgetting that those are possible? I've been thinking that it also could be Parasite Eve, but that was more of an Action-RPG... actually, it felt closer to a traditional RPG than most action-rpgs do. The story also had a bit to do with memories. Anyways, that's the only RPG from square that I'd care for. Edit: I don't think it's a new series at all because Nintendo Power seems to hint at it being a returning title. They say "we'd have to erase your memory if we told you what it is. in fact, maybe we already did", which implies that the series is already known and it's considered a big one.

Wait, why can't it be Sonic RPG? It fits. The developers are hoping you'd forget how bad Sonic Adventure was. Ba-dum, kssshhhh!!!

Watch, it'll turn out to be Suikoden 6. There are rumors that it's coming to the Wii, instead of PS3 :/

If that were the case, then I think my friend Adam would finally have to break down and buy a Wii, as Suikoden is one of his favorite series of all time. -Tom *sigh* me too. I mean, I want to get a Wii someday, but, I wasn't planning anytime soon.
