Has anyone gotten very far into the game? Something has to be making the install twice the size of the first chapter.

I've heard the data files are more or less identical. Replacing the ED6 EXE with the ED6SC EXE will supposedly (almost) run the game.

I can't comment on running the game with the wrong exe file, but I do have both installed side by side and there is a significant diffence between them. ED6_WIN = 114 files, 2 folders, 1.81 GB ED_SORA2 = 171 files, 2 folders, 3.49 GB The exes are similar in size, but SC has a dozen or so large .dat files that aren't present in the FC install (as well as 40ish new music tracks). They have to contain something, right? I really don't know for sure as I haven't been able to play much passed the opening scenes.

I mean all the FC data is present in SC as well. So it should technically be possible to use the FC EXE with SC's data files, and still play FC.

Oh, I get ya. Frankly, it wouldn't surprise me if that worked. I believe the SC install contains pretty much everything from the FC one -- including those little jingles from the school play. The only things missing would be the exe and the movies.

So far I'm on chapter 6 (out of 8 total I think), and although I thought at the beginning it'd get old fast going to the same places again, I really have no gripes about the content. There's plenty of character development, especially for some that didn't get much spotlight in the first chapter, lots of fun (albeit bordering on annoying at times ) riddles sub quests. Plenty of new spells, orbments, food. Fishing is a fun way to make money/sepith. Thing is since you remember most places you don't feel lost at all Can't wait to see where this ends

Thing is since you remember most places you don't feel lost at all It's been a long time since I finished the first chapter, and it's true how those locations get burned into your memory.

is it at ALL possible to play through chapter 1 and 2 with an FAQ?
and is it even worth it without the character development? >_>;
if so I may place an order...... not sure though...

Gillian Seed wrote a nice faq for the first one at gamefaqs.com, and I'm sure it won't be too long until one for the second chapter appears. (He'll probably write that one too LOL).
Is it worth playing? YES, DEFINITELY if you ask me. The games are a lot of fun, even the normal battles can be pretty addicting in my opinion. Lots of characters to get to know and a lot of variety for equipping special attacks & skills. I can't read Japanese, so I just experimented with everything until I learned what things did.
I have to say, though, there is a lot of text, and side quests, and it took me a lot of patience to finish the first one without a faq, due to my lack of Japanese.

I'm biased since I can read Japanese, but the game would definitely be a lot less enjoyable without knowledge of Japanese : 1) there's quite a lot of character development 2) there are lots of riddle quests. Sure you can use a FAQ for these, but it's fun finding them on your own. I won't discourage you from getting it though. The game system is one of the best ever, and after hundreds of fights, I've yet to find one boring But Falcom boasts the game as a "Story RPG" for a reason.

One thing that would be great for both FC and SC is a comprehensive story writeup. Something that details a lot of the character development that makes the games so enjoyable. I know you wrote a nice story summary for Gillian Seed's walkthrough, freakman, but obviously it lacks a lot of detail. Barring a full translation patch, this would be the best thing to increase the games' popularity. This would be a lot of work though, and while my Japanese isn't that great, I'd certainly be willing to help anyone who was attempting it.

NightWolve has accepted to take the project (well FC first), so once the game text is extracted, we should be able to start working on it with the few translators interested in this hefty task. Sorry about the brief guide I made, but I did the best I could using what I remembered

Haha, no need to apologize! I certainly didn't mean to belittle your guide. It's a very nice summary of the main plot, and I'm sure it's been a huge help to a lot of people. I was just trying to throw in ideas for the future, as it seems many people are afraid to give the game a chance because of the large amount of Japanese text.
I've heard about Nightwolve's interest in the project, but obviously that's a long way off. Although, even a translation that simply covers the main story scenes would be great in my opinion.

I had thought of separating the tasks too, but we'll see that when things get started. (Not to mention if the text isn't ordered, that might prove quite a arduous task) On another note.... I feel both fulfilled and empty. I just finished SC. In my humble opinion, Falcom outdid themselves on this. It's straightforward, heartwarming, epic and still has a lot of comic relief (Olivier \o/ ) Only one complaint I could make is about the low difficulty, but then perhaps I'm just too used to the game (some people will probably find it hard enough ) Well, not to mention the heart of the game is its story, this is no Felgana Look forward to : Twists, turns, and anything you'd expect from the sequel to Sora No Kiseki. (No, no love story between Joshua and Olivier, I'm sorry to disappoint you :/ .... ) Even better : they're definitely not done with the ED6 universe. I won't say any more.

Congratulations, you must have really been into the game, to finish it in a week! That says something right there about the how awesome the game is.

Congrats! You're probably among the first worldwide to finish the game! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it, as I'm getting some time off soon and will be playing it heavily. And it's very interesting that you point out that they're not done with the ED6 universe...hmm...

Oh they got pissed. But on Xeph -- the guy behind the Korean translation (and the guy who found out how to hack the game). Falcom didn't know about NightWolve's little project.

Would you guys recommend this game to someone who hasn't played the first game and also who can't read Japanese? I'm looking at the screenies at Falcom's website and it looks pretty interesting. I think I might want to get this after finishing Xanadu and Ys: OiF
