I imagine everyone knows how to install it?

I dunno about that. The most common YsF question was "how do I install the game."

Well, I'll go ahead and inaugurate this topic with a question. How in tha holy Hell do you open up the Devil's Door? I have the ring, but selecting it as my item doesn't seeeeem to be doing the trick here. Anybody gotten this far yet?

I have the ring, but selecting it as my item doesn't seeeeem to be doing the trick here. Anybody gotten this far yet? Your ring isn't strong enough Go back into the last room of the Territory of the Silent Desert and there should be some of those annoying fast enemies roaming around with a red glow. Kill all of them and it'll upgrade your ring so it looks more like the door (you'll just get another 'You got ___ item' message for it). Now DO NOT SELECT IT. It'll kill you the second you do. First, equip the blue necklace into your accessory slot (remember how this helped repel evil in the first area? Works here too). Now you can select it, run back up, try to open the door and it'll work Edit: Oh, nevermind. Well I'll leave this here anyway, someone else is bound to ask.

Okay, I'll probably figure this out before someone tells me but does anyone know where the boss medal is in the Territory of the Poisonous Blood? >_>

Well, I *think* I have my stuff set to Japanese regional settings...
I can get into the menus, start either character's quest; it goes through the ten minute intro and then once it's in-game, it crashes on the first dialog from a character. I'm assuming this is because of some sort of language settings but I thought I handled that. Then again, I don't typically use XP. I've stuck to 2000 until like a few months ago, so.
Any ideas?

Yep, that's the unicode issue. So what you have to do: 1. Start, control panel, regional and language settings, the languages tab, then check 'install files for East Asian Languages'. It'll probably ask for your XP disk, give it it, and may ask for a restart. 2. Once that's done, go back into regional and language settings, click the 'advanced' tab, then under 'Language for non-Uniode programs' choose Japanese. OK, it'll ask for a restart, give it one and then run Ys and it should work. This won't affect much else (I've ran my PC in Japanese for years now and it's never caused any problems, but if you want to put it back to English you can under the advanced tab. Just make sure it's on Japanese when you're playing Ys That work? It's been a while since I had to do that.

OK - Shopping item translations, in the following format:
- Kanji | Price (SP) - Literal translation (using Babelfish!) if I can't work it out OR - My translation
‘•”õ’†‚Ì–h‹ïi*j‹‰» | Varies with equipment [100 - 300 - 1,000 - 3,000 - 12,000] Strengthens power of *: ‘Ì - Body (Armour) ‹r - Leg (Boots)
‹xŒeŽž‚̉ñ•œ—Í‚ð‘‰Á | 1,000 Increase HP recovery outside the Tower.
’nŒ`‚̈«‰e‹¿‚ðŒyŒ¸ | 4,000 Lightening the adverse effect of topography.
ƒXƒ^ƒ“Œø‰Ê‚ð‹‰» | 8,000 Makes Stun more powerful (longer?)
SP‚̎擾—Ê‚ª‘‰Á | 16,000 Increase quantity of SP found.
ƒAƒCƒeƒ€oŒ»—¦‚ð‘‰Á | 24,000 Increase frequency with which items are found.
ó‘Ôˆ«‰»‚ÌŽžŠÔ’Zk | 1,500 - 15,000 Reduce length of time for status disorders (poisons etc).
–ò‘‚̉ñ•œ‚ª‘‰Á | 2,000 Increases HP recovered from using Medicinal Herb.
Šm—¦‚Åó‘Ôˆ«‰»‰ñ”ð | 2,500 Chance of avoiding status disorders (poisons etc).
”é–òŒø‰Ê‚ÌŽžŠÔ‰„’· | 3,000 Time extension of secret medicinal effect fruit.
ƒu[ƒXƒg‰ñ•œ—¦‘‰Á | 10,000 Increases rate of Boost recharge
ƒXƒLƒ‹—‚ߎžŠÔ’Zk 20,000 - 80,000 - 160,000 Reduce time to regain Skill power.
ƒXƒLƒ‹Á”ïMPŒ¸ | 30,000 - 100,000 - 200,000 Reduce MP used for Skills.
ˆÚ“®‘¬“x‚ð㸠| 500,000 (!) Rise drift speed.
Armour and Boots start at Lv1, and can be upgraded to Max by investing in the top options. The more powerful the armour/boots originally, the more it costs to upgrade, starting at 100 SP, then 300, 1,000 and so on.
There are a few levelled Skills, too - they say Lv? at the end, and each level requires more SP, which I've indicated when I find them out.
For the ones in italics, if anybody can work out exactly what the effect is, let me know. Also, if any of them are wrong, also let me know! More become available the further you get, so I'll add them in as and when I get them (if indeed there are any more to gain).

Um... where is the Evil Ring located?? In the Territory of the Silent Desert. Take the leftmost room after you first enter the place, work your way up to the top right in the room you enter (it's pretty big), then stand on the platform and put on the Mask of Eyes. That'll reveal a bridge, cross that and the Evil Ring will be in a chest on the other side.

Thank you very much century for those Shopping translations. This game has the sickest boss battles. Loving every moment of it.

Okay, I'll probably figure this out before someone tells me but does anyone know where the boss medal is in the Territory of the Poisonous Blood? >_> This one is lengthy. Somewhere in that particular area, you'll manage to obtain the Black Pearl. Later on, or maybe earlier on, your mates get petrified. Now to unpetrify them, and thus get the medallion, you need the Black Pearl plus the Meditation Statue. So what I did was go up to Lado's Annex, talk with Feena (is it Feena? Or is that Lair? I can never tell, they're nearly identical), then drop on down to the base of operations and speak with the guy in the lower right corner of the platform. This'll get you the statue. Then just bring the statue and the pearl up to Feena and she'll combine them for you. I haven't... done the unpetrification yet, but I'm guessing you just bring it by your mates and they get all happy.

The 500,000 SP item, "移動速度を上昇" (idousokudo o joushou)... I'm taking it to mean "movement speed increase" but after buying it, it doesn't seem to do much. Does anybody have any insight on this one? I even recorded a video to compare them, and my movement speed seems pretty much the same in both. It does seem slightly faster, but I think it's in my head. Here's the video, but note that it's in the last area, so if you're not there yet, you probably don't want to click on it.

I was getting random crashes left and right when I first played the game but my computer seems to be used to it and it doesnt crash anymore. Use Applocale. If you dont and your PC isnt set to japanese unicode region setting, the game will crash right when any form of dialogue appears.
By the way, for those of you who are wondering what the roda seed and iron ore items do in the game, here is what you do. The roda seed is given to that little animal that looks like pikachu from pokemon. The iron ore is given to that blue haired glasses dude on the 1st floor who will upgrade your main weapon. Whenever you find more of these items, just find these characters. The animals location is constantly changing and you usually will just run into it doint your usual exploration. The blue haired dude seems to always be on the first floor. Just warp!
