This is more amusing than anything else, but I thought it was worth saying in case anyone was as confused as I was. I never understood why in the Ys games (especially the later ones) Adol was always adventuring with Dogi, especially because he supposedly played a role in Ys 1&2. I consider myself an expert on that game, so this Dogi thing drove me crazy. I finally found out that Dogi IS in Ys 1&2, only his name is Colin in it. It all suddenly makes so much more sense! I know there have been a few other name issues with some of the main characters. For example, playing the Duo version of Ys, I always grew up calling the older Goddess Lair. What other examples of this are there? ....Ok, so I just saw a thread that pretty much deals with what I was going for with this thread, sooo...My bad!

Well, Dark Fact, is also known as Dalk Fukt, Adol's been known as Aron. Ys 3 for Turbo, has a bunch of wierd names, which also appear strangley in the Genesis version, IIRC, like naming Galbalan, Demanicus, though, I kind of think of that as his personal name, since he is "a" Galbalan". I doubt a Galbalan would call himself Galbalan, or even Galvaran for that matter

If you play the DOS version of Ys I, you will have good laughs. xDD
Adol = Arick roda = Rodane (I LOVE that name, for some reason xD) Luta = Ota Dogi = Ogien Dark Fact = Maleficus (or something) Goban = Riobard Darm = Daan Feena = Fiina
Among other examples. xDD

Rodane makes me think of Rodyle. Riobard is also oddly appealing. Also Daan is kinda a cool name for the tower, very Celtic. Sounds pretty benign, given what it was made for.

I dunno. Ota, Ogien, and Fiina are kinda lousy, I think.

The real question is why Dogi keeps hanging out with Adol. Every single time, the schmuck gets locked up or trapped in a cave and Dogi has to bust down a wall for him. I can imagine how their conversations must go. "Ok, I'll break down this huge wall for you this time but the next time you steal some Ancient Artifact and trigger a cave-in, you can do your own rescuing" For the record though, my favorite is from the dubbed OVA. Dark Factor, whose evil plan was evidently to torture Adol to death with mathematical equations.

Where do you think all of Adol's gold goes between games? Dogi is a thief, after all.

I think Dogi used to be a thief. Wasn't it said somewhere he stopped thiefery somewhere in Ys IV?

Well, who needs stealing when you can mooch off the tens of thousands of gold that Adol rakes in whilst human blending?

Fina. It means nice or pretty in Swedish. Fina blommor = pretty flowers.

Fiina reminds me of the Finnish word "viina" which means "booze" in English. and i thought viina was english(US) slang for wine. But i dont remember it having a second i when used as slang.

The joke is on everyone else, including me; I know it's supposed to be pronounced "fook't", but it looks like "fuck't". Make sense?
