Here we discuss Brandish!
I am currently playing the tutorial, so don't have a huge amount to say.

Okay, 97% complete of the first Ruins map, so here's a few impressions so far: - The controls are very, very stiff. If you didn't know this was a port of a very old game already, you'd discover it fast. Not being able to turn the world while moving is a pain in the ass, and the angles don't do much to make combat fun or exciting, either. - Like Zwei you can choose original or arrange for the music - though seen as there's such a huge difference you're most likely going to use the arrange unless you're on a huge nostalgia kick or are Seldane. - You can rest by pressing select any time not in battle, which is merciful to people who aren't so great at the game. Like me. - Keys work like they do in Xanadu Next in the sense that every key in the entire dungeon has exactly like same lock. Bizzare. - The map... gets messy fast. All the different coloured squares and little passageways - you really need to keep on top of organising it otherwise you're going to spend a long time lost. - Weapons come with a certain number of uses before they're useless, and the more you use the less it sells for. Money doesn't exactly grow on trees in this game so when you don't have to use a weapon, don't. Just fight barehanded. - Spells are eeexpensive. - The attack to raise attack, use magic to raise magic system is logical and good.
So yeah, it's fun and has great music but thanks largely to the rigid controls it's likely going to be a fun diversion and not much else.

They seem to have stuck to the original with regards to the controls as much as possible... I don't think fans of the original version would have it any other way, really, so it's not something I can criticise them for. Outside the target audience this time, I guess. Almost positive they'll do the soundtrack thing with Chronicles too, they should certainly have the space. I'm thinking I might actually save that as my first complete run of I and II (even if I didn't want the game, I'd buy it for the OST, so...), somehow after all these years I still haven't played past Vagullion... Oh and I haven't forgotten about you It came at literally like 8pm, so there was no way I could've posted it today. Blame Amazon! This is why I love it when they post using Sagawa though, rather than dumping a 'You weren't in' note in my mailbox when the woman in charge of the accommodation block isn't there they actually come aaalll the way up the stairs to my room and knock. Even at like 8, 9 in the evening. Dedication!

Yeah, somehow. I could never muster the will to start it because of the forced fullscreen (same thing with LoH3, 4 and 5) then when I finally did I just could not beat Vagullion and gave up. So with only 4 months to wait until I can play it for the first time with what'll probably be the definitive version of the soundtrack, I guess I'll wait. It'd be pretty awesome if they just filled up every inch of the remaining UMD space with variants of the soundtrack though... and as for Complete? Well, there could always be another Amazon preorder extra

You're using custom firmware, right?

It's an issue with people using custom firmware. The first guy to upload play videos onto Nicovideo had exactly the same problem... he fixed it, but never said how.

I'm not sure about this AT ALL (so please check, or listen to someone else who's much wiser about this, for I don't want you to brick your psp because of me and then be sending me eternal curses!!!) but.......... perhaps fiddling about with the cpu speed option might help? Maybe your's is set on a speed which is too fast? I think I read somewhere, someplace about this before? .....Or maybe I didn't. Edit: Hey! Perhaps updating your firmware might help? Edit: Oh... Mr. Head Chef beat me to it. X'D If you're running it off your memory stick, that might be the problem?

According to 2ch, upgrading to 5.00M33-6 should slow it down. Obviously if you don't know how to do this, demand your brother does it

I'm certain there's a way to fix this. Hmm... if what Yakra (currently "Falcom Bellboy (Apprentice)" ) said is correct... well, you can configure many things of your PSP by accessing a screen that appears when you turn on the system while holding the "R" button. I think you can carefully meddle with these options. Or, just upgrade the custom firmware to a better custom firmware. Yours probably is "3.71 M33-4". You can upgrade that to "5.00 M33" or something by now. Once you find out how to do that is easy... what can be a bit troubling though is to find out how to do it first.

Man, this game is really buggy. It has crashed three times on me already. Once when I moved to another floor (total freeze), and twice when I have exited the game (I'm getting a grey screen with japanese characters on it, and the PSP has frozen).
I have NEVER encountered a PSP game or application crashing before!

Yeah like I said, 5.00M33-6 gogogo. I think I'm going to stay legal on my new 3000... not like it's been broken anyway, but even when it is. Will keep the custom firmware on the 1000

And no it isn't buggy, I haven't had a single issue on it.

With much certainty, what Yakra's talking about is directly related to the use of custom firmwares such as the M33 series.

OMG, thnx for the quick replies ^_^. hugz to all. Well, Im waiting for my brother to come back home from Uni so Ive been playing it on rapid mode, ruins 7 in an hour har har. But from what my brother has told me the cpu is set to default, I just play the games (not really a computer wiz) so I definitely cant fiddle with it. But Ill let him know and see if he can upgrade it for me... or Ill kill him in his sleep.

If you access that menu I spoke of earlier, there's an option regarding the "drive" you use (M33 Drive, UMD Drive etc.). If you're using an UMD, choose the UMD option, otherwise the M33 one.
I have a friend playing Brandish PSP flawlessly, he uses custom firmware.

I had the same exact problem, and the cause of it was definately the custom firmware. Once I upgraded it to the latest version, it NEVER gave me problems since!
