Yes!
It would be cool. It doesn't have to be standard 2D stuff, but maybe even using a derivative of one of its engines.

Yeah that would be cool. I get tired of finishing all the Ys games peaceably, handing out candy to enemies and such. -ud

It depends. Would it be made by Falcom or some other company? I really rarely get into fan-made games. Of course I mean something official. xD Who knows if there's already a doujin fighting Ys game out there... And yeah, I mean by Falcom themselves, too. Perhaps with the assistance of another company as well, if you'd like.

Well I was hoping to post a link to the download beta and movie clip of a doujin Xak fighting game that was created by a Japanese Xak fan. But unfortunately they decided to close their site down after having it up for 10 years. It was the biggest Japanese Xak/Fray site out there... what a shame. I was really hoping to show what it looked like and what could surely be done at least as a fan project from Ys fans.

You got it onhand? If so, upload it.

I'll have to see if I can find it. If I still have it, I'll upload it, though it was pretty unfinished and only had two playable characters from Xak III: The Eternal Recurrence:
1. Latok Kart 2. Pumpkin Head
At one time I remember backinig up the entire site of 'Flame Bird' including all of the fanart and content that was there because I saw that the site hadn't been updated since 2003 and the bbs board was overridden with spam bots. Sure enough, he/she closed the site down with a statement saying that now that Xak had been released on Windows JP and on cell phones in Japan, the job of the site had been accomplished and there was no need for it any more.
It's sad to see such a big site go like that, especially considering that now that it is gone, that makes XyZ the world's largest Xak series sites/fansites out there. And its from an American no less... An obsessive aarpg collector American sure, but still...
Oh well, at any rate, Xanadu and Faxandu are next. It'll be the biggest baddest Xanadu/Faxanadu website on the interwebs. : )

I'd be all for it. I don't much like fighting games, but I'll admit, if I had character recognition, I'd be more apt to enjoy it, a la Smash Bros. -Tom I agree, something easy to pick up and play like smash bros would be great. I don't get into fighting games much any more either, because every time I stop playing to for any period of time, I have to relearn everything. Pick up and play games like Smash Bros or Power Stone are awesome.

I'm not a huge fan of fighting games unless they're rather well done, without a ridiculous learning curve (IE - button mash and get lucky or learn the ridiculous combos if you want to succeed), or just plain fun.
An Ys Fighting game would have to be elegantly simple, and genuinely enjoyable in that simplicity - something along the lines of Smash Bros - which is something I could see Falcom accomplishing. Or ~ just incredibly well done a la Soul Calibur.

So the fun of Smash with the awesome of Soul Calibur?
Sounds good to me! As long as it has a nice pummeling/driving combo system OH YEAH.

And since it will be online or I think it will based on the info I've been reading, we'll be able to challenge each other to duels. : )
Maybe there is even an ALOY Vs. Tournament in our future at some point. : 0

And you know I'd enter that tournament like it was a va--nevermind. :/
I seriously can't wait for this game, especially since it's using the SEVEN engine. I kinda hope that boss rush rumor is true, too.

What nice sketches~! I'm really really liking Olha in this style! Even more than the VI version! (Adol too is looking a bit more like his Chronicles self?)
