rpgfan.com/news/2009/198.htmlSo...like...I'm bad at starting threads. <_< But a new remake of Silver Star! For the PSP! With pretty new graphics~! Though I'm not the biggest fan of remakes or ports (this looking like it'll fall somewhere inbetween), between the first two Lunars and the first two Grandias, Game Arts have created four of my favourite games ever. So I'm really happy to see that they're still alive and well, and I'll definitely buy this with the hope that it signals that neither Grandia's III's lukewarm reception nor Dragon Song's utter failure have finished off their respective series. ^_^; So yes. Much glee. ^^; Much!

I have a feeling it's just not going to meet expectation with someone other than Working Designs doing the translation. It looks like it's just a straight port though, so I'll pass since I have it already. Anyway, here is a scan courtesy of Kotaku.

Thank you, GameArts for holding onto the Lunar series after that sorry excuse for a video game called Dragon Song and actually remaking it this time (Playstation and GBA ones are done by outside developers). If it comes over here, I am definitely buying it. Some sidequests, improvements to the battle system (at least up to the level of Lunar: EBC), and upped difficulty would be really nice.

Having enjoyed Lunar Legend on the GBA, despite being told it was a rubbish port, playing this version of the game could be something worth looking into, if only to see what it is that I missed.

Oh.Mi.God! Really truly MUCH glee! Now I only hope it gets brought over in English too!!!! I guess aside from everything, the main reason why I feel so delighted at seeing yet another remake is that it gives the dreamer me some wee little bit of hope that perhaps SOMEDAY in the far off future, one might possibly, hopefully see another sequel. A half decent one that is! In the meantime - I want Lunar on me PSP!!!!

I've actually never played Silver Star Story - only Eternal Blue. So this is very good news for me. It might give me a good excuse to play something I've always meant to, but never got around to. -Tom I seem to be in something of a minority in that I prefer the second game a little bit. But they're both wonderful games, and some of the absolute nicest of the nice in that classic 16-bit JRPG mould. And though I'm not really much for recommending things to people, and don't really know you nearly well enough to tell you what you would and wouldn't like, SSS seems a very Tom game to me. ^_^; I think I remember you mentioning a long while back that you really liked the second game too...? Or maybe I just dreamed that up? I guess aside from everything, the main reason why I feel so delighted at seeing yet another remake is that it gives the dreamer me some wee little bit of hope that perhaps SOMEDAY in the far off future, one might possibly, hopefully see another sequel. A half decent one that is! *nodnod* That's my thinking too. ^_^ Of course I'm happy to have a shiny new version of Lunar to play, especially since I haven't played the first game in such a long time. But it's the thought that Game Arts are still thinking about this beloved old series, even after all these years (and the horror of the last time they tried to make a new Lunar game...), and still have the finances to actually do something with it. Exciting~! Dear me, I should not be this bubbly and happy over the announcement of a remake of a game that's already seen about four remakes. I think I probably would've dropped dead on the spot if it was a new Lunar that had been announced. ^_^;

I LOVED SSSC, and I can only be looking forward to this one. I wonder if the new translation will have as many jokes, and if 'horny' will still be in the characters' vocabulary. XD

Also, yes, I loved Eternal Blue. Mystere forever!! Same here. Eternal Blue is probably the only game I ever played six times even though it didn't have a new game+ option. It's just that good. Since Silver Star is being remade, Eternal Blue remake is probably not too far behind I would't mind if Silver Star and Eternal Blue are remade as many times as Ys I & II did since Lunar series, along with Ys series, basically defines what good old classic JRPG is.

It looks like it's just a straight port though, so I'll pass since I have it already. I dunno, hm...those graphics look way touched up to me. IGN says the visuals have been redone and there are new story segments to fill in some extra backstory. Either way looking forward, but what I truly want is Lunar 2. To me it just looks like they made 3/4th perspective, instead of the flat 2D overhead look. Which really doesn't change anything. It's more of a way to say hey look, this game ISN'T 3D.

Will probably buy for soundtrack. That and I never actually finished my copy of SSSC, even though I enjoyed it. Despite the stupidly dumb pop culture references.

That actually looks pretty amazing! Super cute sprite work, and I totally forgot that I WAS missing on cutscenes all this time. I'm seriously thinking about getting it, now. :O

Nope, I take that part back. I love the new character models. I am still concerned about the translation though. If it gets translated.

Ys V was certainly not isometric, and Falcom conveyed the 3D surroundings quite well, I thought! There's also The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, A Link to the Past, etc -- the whole freakin series, lol.
So yeah, that's just... not even an excuse. XD

There was also Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge for the GBA -- which you could easily argue, I suppose. Alright, what about Beyond Oasis? Yeah, I'm not sure. I just hate being forced to use diagonal input -- or even worse, I'm forced to hold the controller at an awkward angle just to figure out the control scheme. Thankfully this is "next-gen" though, we have joysticks and analog nubs to remedy what would otherwise be downright awful. Speaking of isometric, I loved Snake Rattle N' Roll, but damn was that game ever annoying. One of these days, I'll quit my complaining and just play it with my PS2 controller. There was also Fourside in Earthbound -- which was surprisingly one of my favorite areas, next to Twoson. I'm not sure what you'd call that game's viewpoint, it was skewed for the most part... but Fourside seemed to do pretty well as an isometric area. My project, codenamed 'Roads Paved with Good Intention', will hopefully convey 3D surroundings with 2D artwork just fine, without the use of isometrics. Even as a developer, I wouldn't see myself doing that to gamers. // Popolocrois II did look pretty, I agree.

Of course, if you thought looking for the Bromides in the original SSSC was hard, just imagine looking for them in this version. There's MORE hiding spots for things... Yeah, I suppose controls won't be a problem -- as I've said, this is the next generation where shifted controls isn't an issue anymore... or so I hope, anyway. Super Mario RPG didn't shift input, but they forced the player to make diagonal input due to the viewpoint -- having to hold up+right to make a jump was a bit of a stretch, for me. Luckily, though, there's several ways of doing diagonal input these days that doesn't require an SNES controller. That, and the PSP d-pad is slick as hell! I don't mind making diagonal input on that at all. Its smooth edges (do I smell an oxymoron?) and button-esque design make any kind of input as comfortable as possible. If I get this for my PSP-1000 though, I guarantee you that I'll be playing it on my TV. I have ways to do it now...

This is the part where I taunt Ashurei with my PS1 copies of SSSC and Eternal Blue. Heck, I still have my copies of the original Sega CD games! XD Not that I'm a longtime, whacky Lunar fan or anything... I admit I do have some mixed feelings about this news, though. While I'm almost never one to snub remakes if they're done right (and Game Arts usually gets it right).... haven't they beaten this dead horse enough? How about a brand new Lunar game that doesn't suck? Still... I know I'll buy it. Lunar on the go, with shiny new graphics and the cut scenes intact? Hell yeah. I do like Eternal Blue a smidge better though.

I'm beginning to think that Falcom has a hidden clause somewhere in its terms that they MUST remake Ys I and II at least every five years, if not more.
Final Fantasy I & II are examples of the remakes I try to ignore, because usually they're nothing more than slightly spit-polished ports. Lunar is starting to take that turn... The jump from Silver Star to Silver Star Story Complete was immense- THAT was a proper remake.
I hardly think it's bad. The problem I have with it is that Game Arts released that god-awful Lunar... THING... on the DS, when a lot of fans were waiting oh so patiently for a truly new Lunar game that would live up to the bar Game Arts set for themselves over the years. That kinda... didn't happen, obviously.
Like I said- still gonna buy it. It's pretty, it's Lunar. It's one of my favorite games, revamped and portable (again).
