Anyone been reading about how PSUPedia recently released all the VisionPhone passwords for the US Release?
In-game, you can input passwords that unlocked Japanese DLC content ranging from Excalibur from Fate//Stay Night to Miku's costume and her leek.
Sega was supposedly going to release these passwords 3-4 a week, but you know what? After I looked through them?
I don't believe it. Too many of these items are niche. We would've seen half the total list.
Sega's never been too kind to the Phantasy Star audience in recent years, shutting down the PC servers for PSU, denying us DLC and really any support for PSUP, and now releasing a dumbed down version of PSP2.
For the uninformed, they cut out voice acting and DLC, instead opting to just password it all in so they wouldn't have to.
And apparently now there's an expansion title we'll never see? What a bunch of bullshit.
Botched translations, titles we'll never see here (( The remakes of Phantasy Star 1 and 2, 4 was never made, canceled )), and continual stops of fanworks?
Sega, you lost my business a long time ago. Keep losing it. :E
On the other hand, I'm using Archer's outfit and twinblades on mah Cast. Rock rock on. As well as the axe. Oh GOD I love axes in PSU. With maxed level Anga Redda? When I had my hunter in PSU I rocked the crowd even though I was 20 levels under everyone else.
Oh, I forgot. Anyone remember Phantasy Star Collection for the GBA?
WHERE IN THE HELL WAS IV?! HUH SEGA?! You gave Japan a -full- collection, WHERE WAS OURS?!

Yer story is a bit flawed in the facts. First of all the codes unlock content already on the disc, both on JP and US. Sega of America did a good job maintaining 99% of those items regardless of most of them being cross-overs. The only thing we lost was the gravure pictures (and I for one am glad as they were the height of Japanese creepiness. The passwords were the bikini model's birth dates and all but one of them was under 18.. usually 14-16. Also note that the posters were the highest resolution texture in the entire game) and gained 3 fan-designed posters
I've ranted before how losing the voice acting in PSP2 has ruined key parts of the story. It also hurts that PSPo, a gimped, downgraded port of PSU, got full voice acting and PSP2 didn't. That's Sega of Japan's reaction to the sales of PSPo went (which of course would be low in the first place because PSPs aren't big in the West, unless you're hacking them). So instead of realizing that PSP2 is the far better game and giving it their all, they cut all the corners they could thinking it wouldn't sell enough to be worth their time.
As for cut content. PSP2 on its own is good. The DLC made it even BETTER. Almost all the DLC missions were fun and there were even some DLC items I was willing to pay for. DLC isn't out of the picture. Hopefully the item code leek will give SoA ground to get SoJ to localize some of the missions so that they can promote the game now that their precious item codes got released. What I'm worried about is that in cutting the content, there was a screw up and it is impossible to get an 100% complete game. There are 3 enemies that are DLC only, rare bosses made easier to get through DLC, and a slew of DLC-only items. One of the previously online missions has been found on disc now and several drop changes have been noted. It's one thing to cut content due to budget and/or projected sales. I can kinda put my fanboyishness aside and justify that. It is another thing to leave the game incompletable due to the heavy-handed cutting of data. That's delivering an incomplete game.
And given the continuity errors and general inconsistencies in the localization of items, titles, & descriptions it definitely seems like the translation was outsourced. At least the dialog is well-written.
Oh and about why we didn't get Phantasy Star generation 1,2, & 4 (the remakes)? Because they sold poorly even in Japan, Phantasy Star generatin 4 doesn't even exist, and I think some mismanagement of the whole deal by the western studio handling the localization. generation 4 didn't come out because Sega Ages 3D was selling horribly, so Sega just started porting collections of old games (some which are amazing collections. Phantasy Star, Wonder Boy, Treasure Box, Virtual On, Fantasy Zone omg). Japan got the shaft as much as us.

Yeah, I mentioned that Generation 4 never saw the light of day, but I was unaware of the whole Sega Ages 3D thing. And yeah, the western studio did one of those silent drops I think.
And what I meant specifically is that Sega would've never released half those codes. Sure, the ones for the animes and stuff, but there seems to be some really niche items that we would've never seen codes for in that list.
I can see Ruby Eclipse saying "Sorry, just do some combination and you might get it~"
I know I'm not doing this in order... but lastly, I do feel that the game itself is quite rushed. It's sad that we won't likely see DLC, or really anything US-side. Obviously we won't see Infinity.
It grinds me, yo. At least Falcom saw the light and greenlighted Ys OiF and Chronicles, as well as a few Legend of Heroes titles by a good studio.
Sega just rushes out anything here that's not Sonic the Hedgehog, and even that's been just fucked up in recent years.

Sure, the ones for the animes and stuff, but there seems to be some really niche items that we would've never seen codes for in that list. That's just speculation. I'd have expected Ruby & Edward to release all the codes eventually, even the niche stuff, since they fought hard to keep those items in the US version at all. I don't think they'd pull a Konami (for DDR Extreme US it took them 2-3 years to finally release the unlock code for a hidden song that everyone had assumed was dummied out at that point. They had forgotten to run the original campaign that they were going to give out the code through) As for rushed, I don't get that impression. This is about the usual quality for Phantasy Star: wrought with continuity inconsistencies in the localization. PSPo was pretty extraordinary and it still had DLC missions cut from it. The reason I say this is that they at least took the time to move DLC missions with unique enemies onto the UMD and rearrange drop charts to have some DLC mission charts. Also take a look at who does the US voice for Crouch/Kraz IMO Sega has been pretty soulless ever since the DC died and the spirit of Segata Sanshiro along with it. There was a brief glimmer of hope during the Sega Ages PS2 series when they did some amazing things, but now they're just a cold, calculating marketing machine on par with Nintendo. The difference is that Nintendo is making money

You know what? That sounds about right. May Segata Sanshiro be missed. Who did Crouch/Kraz? He doesn't sound familiar at all. Chelsea sounds like the Puff Puff girl from Dragon Quest 8 though. And I will say I'm not that far in the game. I've always had a beef with Sega ever since Phantasy Star Collection for the GBA, just like I've had a beef with Bamco over Tales of Phantasia GBA. Perhaps what they did do for PSP2 will change my mind. It won't matter what anyone says though, I still think Sega would've kept a couple of those codes secret. It's just like Nintendo & Dragon Quest 9, all those WiFi quests? Unlockable with an AR with the snap of a finger. It's the same thing, forcing people to wait.

Isn't DQ9 a Squeenix game?
I think Nintendo's still basically the same, still making some great games (and some questionable decisions). Sega, on the other hand, seems to really have lost its soul, sadly. I'm still hoping Sonic 4 and Colors will be good, though.

And of course there's no US code for the Twin Handguns. It would just be all too convenient for a secret weapon of my favorite type to be accessible right now. >_>

New favorite thing to make fun of is that in the screen shots on the back of the packaging, one of them is actually just a textless image of the package art. This is only on the US case.
In other news, people found if you download the Japanese DLC missions and put them in a correctly named folder, you can play the DLC missions on the US/EU versions of PSP2! All mission text still displays in Japanese, but enemy names and items will be in English.

Huh. That's interesting.
They took DLC missions entirely out of PSP1, forrect?

^ From what I've heard, the DLC missions are also in NA PSP1 but it's buggy though.

Oh. They meant to play PSPo missions in PSP2. Yeah I could see how that'd be buggy. I'm backing up my data before I try that. I just tried to load PSPo DLC missions in PSPo US in a similar manner and it indeed couldn't read 'em. EDIT: Yeah PSPo DLC missions in PSP2 are a no-go as I thought. The way that you access missions is completely different in PSP2 than PSPo so I didn't know how it'd be able to read the data. It just freezes on the now loading screen when you try to enter a game mode due to not being able to parse the DLC data

Folks you just gotta realize, PSO is the most biggest waste of effort. Why bother,
WOW is a much safer bet. You can even play it wireless via your Iphone.
It looks like that game on the saturn via the phone. Uhm, Hydlide. Anybody remembers that horror show.

Raison... I'm not very smart, either. Don't make fun of this guy. It's really not the same. Although actually, regalsin is a genius. This whole thing is obviously a sinister plot to divide ALoY into two factions: one that sympathizes with regalsin, and another that sees him as an obvious troll they might as well have fun with because the staff has decided to let him stay. I say, old bean, jolly good show!

The fact that my dad plays WoW, talks about it all the time and tries to get me into it has ensured that I have a seething hatred towards it. That, and I don't like how it plays. But seriously, my dad plays WoW!
