in this extra line of info, so I'm thinking they each increase a different elemental damage? Or maybe give elemental resistance? That would at least help justify their cost, since they give so much less defense than similarly priced armor... Elemental resistance. You can test the helms yourself.

So apparently this game is pretty much FREAKING AWESOME. I just got the thing that lets you go underwater, so I'm thinking I'm somewhere around halfway to two-thirds through the game. (Although I might be totally wrong.) I definitely agree with the descriptions I've seen, that it's like Diablo meets Zelda meets Metroidvania. It's definitely got that addicting Metroidvania-style exploration which keeps you saying "Ohhhh, let's just see what's in that next new area before I go to bed... ohhh, just one more after that." The combat is also waaaaaaay better than the Diablo-esque stuff I've tried to play in the past. I can move! I can dodge! I'm actually doing stuff instead of just standing in place and trying to figure out how to maximize my DPS! I'd draw the strongest comparisons to Vagrant Story and Elemental Gimmick Gear, but this feels a little more accesible than the former and more polished and coherent than the latter. Also, of the Falcom PC games I've played, this seems like the one which would have the best shot of doing well with the Western PC-gaming crowd. It's enough like Diablo-style WRPGs to possibly appeal to fans of that genre, but at the same time distinct enough to stand out and not get lost as "just another Diablo clone"... It could make an excellent "gateway drug." (First one's free, you ain't a cop, are you? Come back later and I'll hook you up with some Ys. )

I was actually right before that part when I posted that last message, and I was kind of wondering "Where is there left to go after this?" And then I was like "Oh, wow, that big thing over there." I haven't been able to play too much since opening that area up, and I think I need to upgrade my equipment a bit... early on, I was kind of over-equipped and was stomping things, but then I died a few times and lost a lot of gold, and got a bit behind on equipment... but luckily the grind in this is never too bad: you get money, weapon skills, and guardian levels at a good speed, and the character levels seem to be pretty well paced with the length of the game, much as they are in the Ys games.

Is it that part that makes -------- -- AWESOME? Personally, I'm still peeved about that monster in said castle, which ------ ---- your character. Not nice. Not nice at all!

The first has to do with a guardian, leveling you up. The last has to do with a monster, leveling you down.

Oh, it's TOTALLY beneficial. The guardian (at max) can net you 4 extra points (I think? It's been a long time.) to fiddle with per level. The trick is to level down back to level 1, and re-level your character using that guardian. So say you level up to 60 (hypothetically speaking; I don't know if 60 even exists in this game from memory.) with the guardian. That's 240 points that you would've otherwise missed out on! Essentially, this is necessary if you want to master the secret dungeon. The monster that levels you down? Well, if you're under-levelled/equipped/stat, he can level you down further, making all of that hard work and suffering for a high level (and progress, if you haven't saved before you see him) rather... you'll feel defeated. I did.

My impression of the game so far:
Grinding, environmental destruction, and character customization FTW!
I believe I'm about to take on the boss in the Clover Ruins. :O! I wonder if I should have bought any more spells ... ?
....
Okei, what the fucking hell? I can get attacked while opening up chests?!? >:( (Didn't notice the enemy just off the screen. 9_9)

Hey, do weapon types have any affects on enemies? Like will a 2-handed sword work better on a certain enemy than a spear? D:
And dorky question: For enemy info, if it says Thun: -15%, that means the enemy is WEAK to thunder, right? ^^

d00des, I'm baffled at this part. Can you PULL crates? D: It's the area behind a boulder at this part of the Clover Ruins: I wants the treasure!! ;;o;;~~!!

I was really stuck here too. You won't be able to finish this until later. There's an exceptionally evil organic boss coming up. Beat him first.

I'm actually doing the second part of the Ancient Path right now but decided to hang around here to super grind for money and levelling. ^^

Oh good lord. The spider boss does 150+ damage to me when it swats. I think my defense stat is okei. I'm certainly not neglecting it. :/
I'm at level 9. I wonder if I should switch to the magic power boosting Guardian and just spam the hell out of Thunder on it?
Grr.
Then there's that damnable skeleton-in-a-chest in Ancient Path III that's begging for some ass kicking too.

Yeah, you can avoid the swats. I just have the uncanny ability of getting hit.
This boss battle actually reminds me of the Devil May Cry 3 fight against Cerberus. Of course, in that, you can jump into the air and do mad slashes. :P
Footwear, eh? I don't have it yet but I take it that's going to help me across a giant sparkly space at the Clover Ruins as well as getting the chest?
Anyway, I levelled up last night so I'll try the damn boss battle again. I finally got some blue potion drops. Hopefully, they'll be of some use in the fight as I plan to do magic spamming.

Actually, I think the sparkly area is different from the footwear area. You need a special facewear for sparklies, methinks.

Hirm. Them Wing Boots keep getting me hurt during the entrance part of the Egret Mountain II part.
There's a damn rock island thingy in the middle but it's hard to move around it to get the character to start running again since he'll just step off it . 9__9
Anyway, I had lots of fun with the sparklies and I got the treasure from the Clover Ruins II. :D
I really got annoyed with the Treacherous Woods but I think I'm going to go back there to beat up enemies for another level up (and lots more moola) before proceeding.
Man, I have around 42 keys now and out of that, methinks I only bought 5. :P
STILL WAITING FOR THE EPICNESS OF THIS GAME TO SHOW UP.

d00de, epic has to blow me away. This game isn't doing that.
And I will never understand what genius map design is to you.
If I didn't have such a crappy memory, I think I would enjoy the way the Ancient Path partitions are all linked. I do wish the damn map would show the parts that are sealed off though as I wandered to those parts more often than I liked thinking I could get to the another section of the dungeon.

Got back into that game after a bit of a break while I rushed to get my JET application together (I hadn't looked at the site since earlier this year and for some reason thought the applications were due in February... close call on that one ). I just finished the Time Crevice, and I didn't think it was that bad, since it was at least fairly short. Plus it had some nice block puzzles. Anyone know what the Ganesha guardian does? It was the only one in the FAQ without a description, and I've had it equipped for a while but can't really see that it's doing anything. I really got annoyed with the Treacherous Woods There's actually a trick to that area, but I only discovered it after I'd already gotten through it on my own through trial and error. Let's just say that there's a certain accessory in your inventory which can make navigating the area a lot easier...
