There's a max level, but I don't remember what it was. One of the patches increased that value slightly, I THINK it might be 65.

The "hidden" patch takes max level from 20 to 30. I'm at 22 right now and have made it as far floor 14 in the bonus dungeon (I could have easily kept going but I was summoned to play Wario Ware Wii).

Oh you're right. I "doubled" the value. Probably confused it with Wordl of Warcraft, which I don't even play!

Ugh. I made it down to about floor 18 and died. I guess I'll have to stick with my original plan to journey down far enough to level up, warp out, power up and repeat for a couple more times. The dark lich monsters down there are effin' ruthless. Everything else is mostly manageable though.

Yes. I managed to get somewhere over Floor 20. There were Liches there that I hit for 1HP, and who (along with the other 6 or 7 monsters in the room) obliterated me. At the time I was level 22!
I think at that high level, you really need to equip the Frugel Guardian until you're just about to go up a level, then head home and switch back to Bel Freud, otherwise you'll be waiting forever to level-up.
By the way, completing the game at a high level gives you a crappy grade! Just thought I'd warn you ^_^ I was trying to finish the game at as low a level as possible a while ago, but I stopped playing. I'll go back to that at some point.
And yes, Evilwurm is cool 8) Like someone said, a bit too easy when you know his attack pattern, but great fun to fight.

I finished this game just the other day and must say that I really enjoyed it. My Japanese is far from perfect but the gameplay in this game was really fantastic and kept me playing.. as well as looking forward to playing when I wasn't I'm going to derail this board just a touch and ask about Sorcerian (I believe it's part of the same Dragon slayer series) I bought a copy of Sorcerian Original tonight (the original edition in the big box that comes with "very best of sorcerian") and I have two questions about it. First, the game is for windows 95-98.. can I play it in windows XP? And second, there is a walkthrough at gamefaqs for Sorcerian but don't know about whether it would be usefull for this version. If anyone can give me any information I'd really appreciate it. ...and before you ask why I'd buy a game I didn't know if my system could run, it was only 480 yen so I think it was worth it just for the cd.

Yup, I'm a Canadian but I've been living and going to school in Sapporo since August last year. The budget Sorcerian release for XP is everywhere, but this older edition seems to be a bit more difficult to find (in my area at least).. the included soundtrack is really great.

Hate to ask. But is there a way someone can help me understand the config on this game. The game is kinda choppy on my laptop and I want to see if I can adjust some of the settings to get it to run better.
And also I wanna try and fix the gamepad.

I was looking on Amazon.co.jp, and they have many of sorcerian originals. They dont ship to the usa tho. I want this game real bad.
Bassmaster, Grab me one too if you can, and I will pay u a fair price. an even more than fair price. I know it can be alot of trouble, for shipping, and dealing with people you dont know. So if you dont want to thats fine too. Either way, let me know. Thanks.

If your game is patched for the bonus dungeon, though, then you'll find the entrance to it on the stairs in the Castle of Strange Rock's foyer. -Tom But, I do believe you have to have progressed practically to the end of Strange Rock before the portal appears. Like, right before the final boss. Not that that's a bad thing... You need the levels just to survive in the secret dungeon -_-

Thread necromancy!!! I just installed the game, but I'm trying to figure out if I still need to download the extra dungeon that I've heard about? My exe says it's 1.0.1.4 (the latest version, as far as I can tell), but I didn't know if the extra dungeon is a separate download from the latest patch or how exactly all that works. EDIT: Bah, never mind. On the back of the packaging there's a little box which says "v. 1.0.1.4" and under that something along the lines of "<kanji> dungeon <more kanji>" and then something on the side about monsters and items and leveling up. So anyone else who just picked up the game from the recent special: yes, you've already got all the bonus content. I think.I'm looking forward to jumping into this -- it looks like it takes the Diablo-esque formula which I don't care much for, but injects some more structure, variety, and purpose into the gameplay to provide an alternate take on the concept. SUPER EDIT: Oops, no bonus dungeon after all. I think the little message on the back of the package is maybe just telling you that you CAN download patches/upgrades, because it has the address for Falcom's website at the bottom. I guess I've got an excuse to play through the game again!

I don't think the extra dungeon is really anything to talk about, though. I eventually gave up on it.

Alright, I've got my options and controls tweaked, running around a bit to get a feel for what's what so I can dive in for real tomorrow. Century, your guide on gamefaqs has definitely been a great help in lieu of the actual manual. Oh, I noticed you left the third helm as "? Helm" in your guide. I believe it should be " Lamellar Helm." (Useless history degree FTW! ) EDIT: Actually, I guess I have one question. Anyone know what these two options in the config menu do? They also show up in the in-game menu, and as far as I can tell, the one on the right just makes my frame rate worse as I move down the list, while the one on the bottom left doesn't seem to do much of anything.

Haha, thanks, that clears that up. Kind of weird that they'd have a straight-up "make frame rate worse" option. Maybe it's kind of like Mega Man 9's "turn on sprite flicker" option. A second question: I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the FAQ, but do helmets have special effects? I noticed that there's an additional line of info for helmets which doesn't appear on shields or armor. My kanji-fu is weak, but I can at least tell that the second, third, and fourth helmets in the shop have the character for fire, ice, and what I'm guessing is lightning ("rain over a field" ) in this extra line of info, so I'm thinking they each increase a different elemental damage? Or maybe give elemental resistance? That would at least help justify their cost, since they give so much less defense than similarly priced armor...
