Thanks! That explains why I didn't see anything happening, because that's the idea: it prevents things from happening.

I thought it was perfect. Even worse, though, had to be the bonus dungeon. >.O" I can understand having something short and simple, like the Time Crevace... but the bonus dungeon? Madness!

Anyone know what the Ganesha guardian does? It was the only one in the FAQ without a description, and I've had it equipped for a while but can't really see that it's doing anything. ??? I wonder if the author is up to updating the walkthrough cuz there are some errors in it like the description for two of the Guardian Cards are swapped. :/ Plus, yeah, Ganesha had a ??? next to it so I just moseyed on over to the Japanese Xanadu Next wiki and did some copy and paste into the Nifty translator to find out what it did. Also, in the boss fight of the giant eyeball/beholder thing, there's no mention that if you strike the thing while it has a certain coloured barrier with the corresponding spell (re: red barrier with fire, yellow with thunder, etc.), the barrier will dispel and it won't do the bloody laser attack. (Is it even possible to outrun the broad beam laser? >_>) Question!!!!!!!! Can you get more than one stat boosting fruit from Agnes (アニエス ... Uh, I'm only writing her name in English (French?) like that cuz Google popped up a result for アニエス・ベー(agnès b. フランス語発音:アニェース・ベ)))? For example, if you keep going to the spot in the Clover Ruins II where she appears, will she eventually sell you another Strength Fruit thing? I spent lots of time going constantly getting her to re-appear there, the Ancient Path, and the mountains and she never sold another one of those fruits. XD Instead, she kept trying to peddle off a Black Onyx or tell me she had nothing. Damn her! Oh yeah, I'm about to embark on my journey into the Xanadu Labyrinth. Wheeee.

Xanadu Labyrinth? That means you've already passed my favorite moment. The little ocean adventure. What did you think? Wasn't that freakin' awesome? (: No, I HATE MOVING THE CHARACTER UNDER WATER. Even though it's realistic to move slower, it's still a pain. I do find it funny that the flames on the weapon (if the skill is active) don't go out though. :B I also find it funny how the people in the town have been staring at the castle for hours already. XD I am determined to get to at least level 20 in this game even though I am not going to do the optional dungeon! I wanna be able to sneeze on the final boss and kill him with that alone! Ugh. I hate the block puzzles but only cuz I suck at puzzle solving. Most of them are deceptively easy but I still can't figure them out. 9_9 Maybe I should rotate the camera more ... There's this damn block puzzle in the Labyrinth with the blue boxes where I can't figure out how to get the boxes high enough to reach the ledge with the bloody chest that most likely has a disc key in it. >:( It'll be back to using the walkthrough for me! >:O Yay. I just got the Guardian card with the creepy little girl on it. More parameter points for me in my next level up (which is like 8000 EXP away =___=)! Why, Olivia Newton John, of course. My boyfriend always starts belting out the lyrics (re: typing in caps) when I tell him I'm playing the game. ^^ You know, if this game didn't come with such super high recommendation and love from all of you guys, I think I would actually like it more. So now, I blame all of you for making me expect awesomesauce from it and NOT getting it. >:(

No no no, I'm not saying that the moving underwater is the cool part... I'm saying that PULLING BACK THE OCEAN is the cool part! I would've never expected the game to do that, and it was just such a neat thing to have happen. (: XD! I knew you were talking about the cutscene but I was just goofing around and wanted to bitch about moving underwater. :B The townsfolks all moved onto the beach once the water drained away so they're staring at SOMETHING. I also want to bitch about the bracelets and how useless they are even with the maxed out Guardian. >:/ Or maybe I just had crappy luck with the Absorbing Bracelet. I also hated how certain block puzzles would reset like the one in the Ancient Path where there are two exits at a higher height. I had to move between the areas more than once so it got annoying after a while. However, once I got the Winged Boots, it was okei. But that's about it for negatives!

Hey, that's a great idea! :D Thank you! I think it'll be painful though. Lots of patience is needed to level up beyond level 20, it seems. >:/ Man, I didn't die enough in the game! >:((((

Hmmm... I'd like this to be implemented in older games.

Whoops, I disappeared for a while without giving my final thoughts on the game. (I caught some kind of horrifying near-fatal stomach-flu from my little cousins at Thanksgiving, and then I went on Nightmare Insanity Mode Work Schedule for December...) This definitely was an awesome game. I felt like it was maybe a bit too easy in some parts, but there were other parts that were just right, where I was narrowly scraping by. I often got that oldschool classic RPG vibe, where you'd dive down into the dungeon as deep as you could, escape, dive a little deeper, escape... but the gameplay was quite a bit more engaging than the usual turn-based systems you saw in those sorts of games. The boss fights in particular were a nice break from the rather dull bosses I encountered in some of the Diablo clones I tried to get into recently. Not quite as action-packed as Ys bosses, but still pretty fun. If there's two extra things I wish the game had, it's: 1) Multiplayer co-op via LAN/online. 2) An editor/downloadable fan-created dungeons (which would supplement the multiplayer co-op). Perhaps in the sequel... (There will be a sequel, right!?) Oh, I should mention that I was wrong in a post I made some time back: it looks like the bonus dungeon patch ISN'T pre-installed after all. I should probably go back and edit that post for the sake of anyone who stumbles into this thread later...

Just finished this game last night! I'm proud to say that I completed it pretty much by myself The only help I got was for item descriptions and to find one bugger of a door I managed to miss in Xanadu castle. Granted my completion time was upwards of 27hours (I get lost easily, heh), I am still proud to have completed it Although I got most of the skills in the game, looking back, there are only a few I'd really care to keep: elemental attributes speed-ups dragon slayer attack from behind I didn't really use many of the specials, mostly fire and wall of flame. By far my favourite guardian was the guy that ups your equipment stats by 30%. That was a huge help The last boss battle was what I would expect from a game like this: frantic, flashy, and deadly. Maybe someday I'll be playing it in English By the way, how do I know if I went to the bonus dungeon? I installed the patch before starting the game, so I think I explored every part of the map, but where would I go to check it out? -ud

IIRC, it appears when you beat the game.

Technically, the bonus dungeon appears BEFORE you beat the game.. when you complete the final dungeon (but before you go to the last boss). And with how many times I've played Xanadu NEXT I'm still ashamed Ive never been able to beat that stupid bonus dungeon. I think I've gotten down to about floor 15.

The entrance to the bonus dungeon, IIRC, is in Strangerock Castle, on the second level of the stairwell in the foyer. Excellent! Thanks! Yeah, I was doing somewhat decent working my way through the bonus dungeon, was running low on heal potions and decided to use a town transport (the disposable kind that leaves the gate open so you can return) to buy more and guess what? You can't beam back! That was like an hour of playing down the toilet! On a side note, what can you do with the "stick" weapon you find there. I maxed it out to 200% and it's still very weak. I'm thinking it needs to be combined with something else to make it powerful? -ud

It's a weak weapon designed for farming EXP. Like a double-edged sword, you sacrifice strength for EXP. Effectiveness isn't an option.
