I heard about this version of Ys II before, its interesting how Adol is able to swing his sword zelda-esque style. This version has stuff in it that none of the other versions of Ys II feature, right?

Hey not to jump into an old threat but, are there any active working download links for this anymore?

I've been meaning to ask, but is this version of Ys 2 worth checking out?

If you're talking about the text opening and credits sequence, you can skip those by pressing the CTRL key. Interesting. It wouldnt let me skip it but everything else in the game works fine. I honestly am enjoying this version of ys2 more than any other version i've played. Being able to bump and swing is just awesome!

Definitely one of the best Ys IIs out there. Easily amongst my top 5 Ys games, quite deservingly! IMO "different enough" is an understatement! I also honestly enjoyed this more than any Ys II/overall Ys that I have ever played for a long time, but after having played it enough, I got very familiar with it. In the end, after a lot of time passes without me playing any Ys II, somehow I started to miss certain other versions of Ys II more than particularly Ys II Special (like the PS2 Ys II, and certainly Ys Book I & II). Some call this the best Ys game ever... Others say it's great, but not flawless... Honestly, I can understand both sides!

I've downloaded it too (thanks Xalphenos for the link!), but when I try to run the "INSTALL.EXE", I got an error. It says that it isn't compatible with the version of my pc. Am I doing something wrong? xD *I didn't read the previous pages of the topic, just the first and the last one because I'm lazy*

Some call this the best Ys game ever... So the drugs do work! There's no way there could be a non-Falcom Ys game that's better than what Falcom themselves make. That's just crazy. (Ys I and II chronicles, represent!)

It does play better than any other 90s Ys game... This pretty much. Gameplay wise, it's pretty much better than anything pre-Ys Eternal/Ys VI. However, it isn't better than AiZA [New Generation]. Care to elaborate, why?

Alright guys I think you're smoking crack. After playing through Ys II special for a bit I don't think it's better than any 90's Ys game. It certainly is not as fluid. All it really adds is an attack button. Which doesn't change a thing if you ask me. All it means is I now ram into enemies while mashing the alt key. It's too much of a superficial change to really make it better than the bump system.

I agree with veleskola above. While the game is neat and somewhat of a curiosity it certainly isn't better than any of the other Ys games excepting maybe the famicom version.

Has anyone done a steam of this game yet. I'd be curious to see it in action, but don't necessarily want to play it.

There's a lot more than meets the eye. I don't know how well Ys II Special would compare to other 90s games (or of any other decade), but regardlessly it's good stuff! What may vary is what fancies the player or not, I guess.

Well it has been a while since my last reply (had a lot of problems to deal with) and I had to put Ys2S on hold since then but I'm trying to see if I can get back to finishing what I've started. Any way, has anyone found out anything new about this game, any news like new secrets or a translation project?

I wish I could, but I'm swamped. Plus I haven't gotten past the crash after the first boss.
