The only thing I don't have is the hardware.... I am emulating with original/modded floppies/disk/card readers and so on..... That side of it is quite fun but then again nothing beats the thrill of playing on original kit! Hey there GamesBloke, having gained a fair collection of PC-8801 and PC-9801 Falcom games and a few PC-9801 CD-Rom discs, I'd be really interested in hearing how you managed to get the original disks (and hopefully cd-rom versions if possible) to emulate. I've tried running several PC-8801 and PC-9801 emulators in the past and have attempted to read the media on the original disks (or discs in the case of the CD-rom versions), but I've never been successful. Hey SkyeWelse...... What is your OS for emulating?? Also do you use anything like USB floppy drives or whatever?? What actual emulator are you running? USB CD ROM?? Sorry if the questions sound dumb... From what I have been told there are apparently 5 floppies to Ys II Special and in fact this is the only game I can't actually play properly because of the floppies!! Why I personally think that this set of floppies is fake is because I was always under the impression that because Ys II Special is a DOS Compatible game that it would come on 3.5 Floppies. *shrugs* They just look amateurish... I don't know.... I'm frantically asking peeps I know for a camera as I type this..... lol..... My personal opinion is that I think its a fake or just someone messing with me but I don't really have to time to really test the floppies.... *shrugs*  Crazy Ys II Special Stuff!! |

I'm beginning to think that what I have is fake... I'm gonna do some searching on this subject. Appreciate everyones help/replies so far! Just to remind people. I have 4x 5.25 floppies with some tatty stickers of 'Ys II SPECIAL' written on them.... My assumption was that they were simply very old (I can be stoopid like that sometimes, lol) I'm now very keen to see what I have here...... Many thanks! |

Thanks for the reply GamesBloke. I'll definitely give that PC-88 emulator a spin soon, though I've tried Anex for PC-98 before without much luck. Maybe the disks I tried are fried.
My OS is either Windows XP srv.pack 3 or Windows 7 64-bit, depending on the partition I boot into. The 3.5" drive is an internal drive read by my PC as the A:\ as well as the cd-Rom/dvd-rom which is also an internal unit. Unfortunately I do not have a means of connecting any sort of 5"25 floppy drive to my PC since they don't seem to make internal or external drives that are compatible from what I've seen. I'd love to have a 5"25 Floppy to USB, if they just made one!
I'll set up the process and emus again and PM you the specifics if I still have some trouble getting it to work. The games in question I've tried to run from original disks are: Xanadu/Xanadu Scenario 2 for FM-77, Revival Xanadu - PC-98, and Sorcerian - Sierra version.
And then of course, Revival Xanadu and Revival Xanadu 2 Remix CD-Rom versions, which a member here named Sardien, managed to at least get the game(s) to the in-game menu screens which ask for the CD-Rom to be inserted before running. But, I still haven't gotten the menu to detect the CD as being inserted into the computer.

I've yet to find a *boxed* copy of ysII special =/ I just have disks with manual.
I'm still amazed I found a new sealed copy of Ys I for dos, even though I payed way too much.

Holiday... Thats awesome.... Would you possibly be able to give us a pic of your disks/manual?  Purely to compare to what I have here!! That would be amazing if you could! I'm excited about video games again I remember the excitement I had even up to preordering my Dreamcast. I've never had that excitement again.... That is until I got into Ys! Thanks for the links Gamesbloke. That's really very cool that there might be a method of hooking up a 5.25" floppy drive to a USB connector. I might consider ordering one of those adapters sometime when I can afford it and go from there! Thanks man!

Just you wait, Seldane. Someday I will be filthy rich and have more Ys stuff than you. ;) So has Seldane sold most of his stuff? D: Oh yeah, can anyone confirm if the Japanese version of Ys Eternal ever had some limited edition (which supposedly had the same contents as the Chinese one or something)? I wrote about it having 3 versions before at my Ys E site though I'm beginning to think that special version I wrote about was the one with the alternate cover which darusgrey has in his collection and the LE was the Chinese one. ^^ |

I don't think so, because I've actually tried to buy some of his stuff for many times, but he wouldn't sell them to me. xD I guess his collection has too much sentimental value. Awwwwwwwwwww. *breaks into his home to take everything* That page doesn't really tell me anything other than giving me the LE SKU. ToT~ But at least it confirms that there WAS one and that I wasn't just imagining things! ^^ Thankees~~! |

Argh. This means I'll have to get my stuff together and do a photo of my collection one of these days. It's not so much games as it is random other junk. Like the Ys IV playing cards, or figurines, clocks, music boxes, or hard to find books, a harmonica, etc etc. D: Do! I want to see all the spiffy stuff! :D |

Thanks guys! : ) I'll try to take a nicer shot of it all for next time without the added glare from the camera flash. It really should have the other shelves in their for the size effect as this Falcom dedicated shelf is one of 3 main shelves for that contain most of my gaming collection. I do love collecting... I'm just fortunate that my wife is supportive of my gaming / collecting hobby, at least for the most part. (laughs)
