Wow, so you have as much Hanzi as there are Kanji; that is interesting. I wonder what influenced the adaptations and modifications, etc.; as I hear that Hanzi and Kanji have their simialarities.

Eh the thing about Chinese is that every single word is a "Hanzi". It's obvious that the Kanji Japanese use are not as many since they have hiragana and katakana in their sentences.
Also there are 2 main kinds of Hanzi now, there's the Traditional and Simplified Chinese. Almost every simplified chinese has it's own traditional equivalent. So statistically speaking, chinese has almost twice as many words.
For me, I'm using the simplified chinese same as mainland China. The taiwanese and hongkongers usually use traditional chinese.

Gah. Since we're talking about learning languages (sort of ^^), does anyone else's mind switch off learning mode when watching TV programs and such in another language?
I don't know why but I cannot, for the life of me, LEARN Japanese just by listening to the spoken language. In order for me to have even some sort of understanding of what's being said, I NEED subtitles. ^^ Same thing goes for Mandarin (though my mom understands it and she apparently learned from watching lots of Mandarin movies when she was young O_o;;;).
As for Chinese, Simplified characters baffle me! ^^ I'm far too used to seeing Traditional characters with a billion strokes. XD

Bad stuff, eh? Tell me all about it. The bad is always more interesting than the good. For example? Our society is not that well-regulated..Or to say,the behaviours of trying to break the rules to find new shortcuts are kind of tolerated.as long as they're not that seriously against the regulations...So people tend to act irregularly... For example,a student who failed an important exam is always trying to compensate by finding a well-know key figure and begging help.or via his or her parents. In public places, few people do what they supposed to,for example standing in a line for a train, waiting politely.. They just rush crazily to be the first... A railway station may impress you of that.. Though a pity,But I have to concede things above. Maybe some times I was pushed to acted that way too...

(Tomato) "It's easier to translate a game from Japanese to Chinese than it is to translate it to English." No...I have to say all Kanjis came from Hanzis...even including katakanas and hiraganas.I am not trying to be a nationalist by saying this...In fact, personally,I feel most of Japanese friendly. And I hope they feel the same way too, despite that we do have lots of disputes and problems. But..I'd like to say There're much more hanzis than kanjis...all Kanjis came from Hanzis. But kanjis look a little different from what they were in hanzis after hundreds of years of variation. Well.Of course,Japnese is tightly relevant to Chinese.Just 300 years ago,Old Japnese still entirely consisted fo Kanjis...Just the pronunciation differed a little. Today, there are still too many words sound nearly the same in Chinese and Japanese... So I feel Japanese just quite easy..as a Chinese

I read that there is quite a big sexual revolution in China as of late. Sex is becoming more accepted in youths, and people dont usually wait until marriage anymore. I also read that China has a seriously unbalanced population, with Males topping the Females by over 30 000 000. Some men live their entire lives without getting married or finding a mate.

Yes, sorry phaer (or whoever Chinese is reading this) if I sound offensive but I think the One-Child Policy of china is kinda wrong. Sure, it's a very effective way of controlling population but because of the Chinese inherent misogynistic erm chauvinistic ehh preference for males, the girls in china have it difficult because many parents are legally or illegally making sure they only have male children.
Sad thing. The feminists in other countries have been fuming mad for 20 over years...

On the other hand, was there really much China could have done about its population otherwise? My understanding, and this is not really an informed position so feel free to beat me down with sources, is that had they not done it, the nation probably would have fell apart of the stress of too many people to deal with, short of getting them all killed in land wars or summat. Which, when resources got scarce, probably would have become more likely.

Sad thing. The feminists in other countries have been fuming mad for 20 over years... On a side not Feminists are always "fuming mad" over something. I can't take there "stance" on issues very seriously most of the time. As many problems as China seems to have, I always hear people proclaim that they will be the next big super power after America. If that were so, I wonder what impact that would have on the world today.

You do realize that the majority of feminists are not the "OMFG PATRIARCHY!!!!" types, right?

Well, my comment about feminists is pretty much offhanded really. I guess it's because I keep remembering that scene in Borat with the bunch of feminists.

You do realize that the majority of feminists are not the "OMFG PATRIARCHY!!!!" types, right? You haven't met the ones that I have. I am being stereotypical, based on my experiences, and its to be taken lightly. Womanizers are just as bad, and I have met far to many.

As many problems as China seems to have, I always hear people proclaim that they will be the next big super power after America. If that were so, I wonder what impact that would have on the world today. Technically I would fall under the category of a feminist. Ofcourse, if all feminists were like me (that is, thinking that all this gathering, protesting, and then trotting off for a cup of tea is pure rubbish) then all women's movements would go poof in a second! But as for China's one child policy - I do find it kind of sad how the little girls are sacrificed/aborted just so that one could have a boy who could later support the parents in their elderly life/carry on the family name (eh... though with the shortage of girls I can't see how that'll be possible). On the other hand, as the Captain said, without such a policy, it sounded like China would have headed off towards its doom and destruction? *information from some vaguely remembered Social Studies and Geography classes* As for my Chinese neighbors next door, they seem to be reacting to the current situation and declarations of them being the next superpower with great fright. For some odd reason, snipers have been deployed next door and they've built barricades in the middle of the street? What the hell?! D':

Ah... no, I wasn't joking. :'D They're actually there. Not very frightening though (guess one has just gotten used to such stuffs? Alliance Francaise across the street set up their bunch of gunmen almost a month back [as well as everyone else here having their own armed guards? A lot of diplomats and such people live in my street... sooo... Perhaps I'm just not easily alarmed? ]). They actually seem quite friendly. XD My mom and I were passing by in our car and I was gesturing away towards them (and it appears I had a silly grin on my face) so I guess they thought I was waving. They all dropped their rifles and started waving back happily (along with one Chinese mister who was sitting on the roof in his undies doing some form of meditation/yoga, methinks. XD). What is frightening though is that some idiotic suicide bomber might notice these happy fools and decide to bomb them, which I don't want! I mean, I live next door in my glassy studio! D: I'm getting really offtopic though. I like Chinese green tea! And the stuffs the Chinese pirate and copy and churn out across the Silk Route! (I found a Sephiroth keychain for 10 Rs once! XD)
