Chinatown is the BEST place to score: Ramen, Sushi, Buffet, Dim Sum, Anime, Models, 2nd market video games, and Vietnamese Subs.
I don't know very much about China.

I have a friend who moved here from China a few years ago. He hates his country with a strong passion, it seems.
But I still want to go there. Why? BAMBOO FORESTS!!

But I still want to go there. Why? BAMBOO FORESTS!! You can act out all those flying martial arts scenes from the various Chinese flicks! *cough* Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon *cough* House of Flying Daggers *cough* Hero *chokes* I dunno. Having grown up with those sort of films makes me wonder what the appeal is of them (other than the pretty cinematography). I also don't know much about China. :D

Wow that sounds like a lot of fun. What other kinds of things are there to do there. sorta reminds me of Chinatown in downtown Los Angles.

There is the cultural center with all sorts of Chinese artifacts, and 3 malls (they are nothing spectacular though). Its about 4 square blocks, so its kinda small, but its right at the entrance of downtown, after you cross a huge bridge over the bow river. Actually if you check out that crappy DMX and Stephen Seagal movie, Exit Wounds, you can see chinatown and the bridge I am talking about. Its in the opening scene, and a dude falls to his death from the bridge.

I've seen nature documentaries about China though, and it looks like there's a lot of awesome areas there. Definitely somewhere I'd like to go to (and stay at, for at least a month). I WILL do it!

Considering how much I love most Chinese stuffs (the books! The paintings!), and am totally surrounded by them (the Chinese defense guys have a tiny little enclave right next to my house ), I just realized I know next to nothing about China. X'D Er... they eat tortoises though apparently? (One always escapes from their pool and is wandering around in our garden!) And... is it true that in China, if you wipe clean you plate it means you want seconds? Ah yes... the neighbours also declare that they (atleast the people next door) eat kitties and puppies. THAT I'm sure is just some very wild rumour that some idiot started! (Xenophobia?!) Aside from all that though, most of the Chinese people I've met are the most amazing people ever! :'D I mean... its amazing how fluent they are in the language of whichever country they're staying in. And I want to visit China one day just so that I can see that stone that Liu Bei and Sun Quan apparently slashed into two! (If it even exists... Still! Want to see the murals!) *random mad babblings*

My friend only speaks English, and he is good at it... but has not learned Swedish well, I think. I guess it is easier to learn another language once you have mastered Chinese, which is probably quite hard.

The one Chinese speaker I know is my Aunt in law, Yong Yi, who is an immigrant from China. I can't say anything about her Chinese, but her english is technically pretty good. But her accent is so thick I can't understand her most of the time. She has a tendency to emphasize odd parts of a sentence, and run her words together. It's probably just as bad for her when she listens to me, though. I tend to speak softly, and use fairly unusual grammar and wordings.

Well,2nd-hand video or game market...Well,I have to say that really a typical thing in China.....though with a little shame.

Its not a Shame, most of the games available to buy that way are not worth the full selling price in a Video Game Store. When I said Ramen yes I meant Japanese Ramen, but it is easy to find in Chinatown. Its kinda stereotypical, but anything Oriental can be found easily in Chinatown Calgary.

I've actually never had ramen. And I'm incredibly incredibly curious about it. (Want to have!) But anyways, there used to be this chinese restaurant two streets down called China Town over here. X'D And in a very strange place too, since back when it was made, one didn't find such a grand restaurant in the tiny dinky 'sector' markets. Anyways, it was really nice enough until cockroaches started showing up as their seasonings recently. XD I liked the noodles! (what were they called...? Chow Mein?) (I've noticed though, 'chinese food's' taste seems to differ with every country? And the actual food of the chinese's didn't taste anything at all like the restaurants'!)

What about Ichiban, which deals in alot of Japanese food? Is it anything like the real thing? I don't really have anything to compare it to, since it is run in the US in various locations. From what I've seen though, it looks like it's supposed to be the real mccoy.

It's the resturant I went to for my 21st, when I had the varieties of sushi and drank sake for the first time. The menus were romanized, some of the sushi was topped with a sweet orange colored caviar, (I'm guessing that's caviar... it pops like bubble wrap when you chew it, so I had fun with that.) pink colored thin-cut vegetables, and a side of wasabi paste. Plus I had some soup with what looked like either tofu or egg -- I honestly couldn't tell the difference while I was eating it. I didn't try the ramen, but maybe next time I will. Also on their menu was that mochi you mentioned earlier, green tea and other flavors. I saved a pop bottle my sister got; marble soda, Ramune, strawberry flavor, possibly imported. Yep, imported by Sangaria USA Inc., product of Japan. I bought some fancy designed chopsticks from Ichiban as well, they sold some dishes and other neat things too. Edit: I knew "Ichi" was one, I've been wondering what the "ban" part meant ever since I heard of the place; thanks for clearing that up for me! I always get lost between "Hachi" and "Zen", and have yet to attempt counting beyond "Zen".
