I didn't expect anything from it. Thus, I was highly surprised they even made an attempt at a story, let alone go as far as it did. As for the humor, well... My instinct is to simply say you're a bitter soulless husk of a human being. In reality, I guess we just have different tastes that way.
Like I said, I went in with the prior that Transformers as a whole is pretty lousy, so I didn't really have expectations to shatter. You claim the military was useless, I claim they actually managed to do something despite the fact the US Military is pretty overextended and committed to the Middle East; especially given how little stuff we actually have within the US itself (due to not really anticipating any overland invasions and such). I could go on, to some degree, but I've got a headache, can I offer a raincheck?
As for Die Hard 4, that movie is so much more amusing when one realizes that the hacker kid was clearly part of the Anonymous hate machine.

I usually avoid reading the book... AND watching the movie.

No, I meant in general. I don't read books... nor watch movies.

My instinct is to simply say you're a bitter soulless husk of a human being well, I was wrong about saying "but I can't believe you're actually telling me you expecting something more than action from the film", I meant to say that you said you found more than action in the film. Like you said, "it wasn't just robots fighting", because if it was "that'd be boring". Yes, reading back to your first post you did say that the only thing you expected was garbage. What I expected was to just be entertained, and I wasn't... in fact I never expected to be offended, but that happened too. Look, I do respect your opinion on this, but I was just trying to explain mine, like you asked me to. Glad to see your response about Golden Compass, wyrdy. I was looking forward to that one and was a bit disheartened by the people saying it was worse than Narnia (which I found ok). Finding out the American Pie director was behind it didn't help either. But I'm probably still going to head to the theaters for it soon. As for reading the books before watching movies, what if you've read it long before the movie was ever announced? besides, even if you read it afterwards it won't help the movie, but you'll probably get a better story out of it.

Just saw a couple of good films for the first time. Magnolia, American Beauty, and 12 Monkeys. I like the last of those three the most, but maybe it's just because I have a bigger liking for sci fi, mystery, and conspiracies

Is my instinctual distrust for every movie that prefixes itself with American justified?

You haven't heard of American Beauty? It's actually one of the most critically acclaimed films ever... but in the end it just depends on your tastes. I will say this: it definitely is well directed and well made, has some great acting and dialog in it, and has a clear, deep meaning in the end. It's akin to Donnie Darko, Magnolia, Crash and the like, but I personally liked all those movies better.

I felt the same way when I saw it for the first time this year.

I just saw I am Legend. It is awesome. I highly recommend checking it out, it is definitely worth it. I've been wanting to check that out... but after hearing about No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood, I'm seriously considering to see one of those instead. Has anyone else seen them? Are they made for the big screen or are they quieter films that wouldn't be much different if experienced on the little screen? My little brother and cousin tend to go with me so I don't want to see anything too mind boggling or talkative.

I am Legend rules! It does get quite graphic at points though.

I just watched Fistful of Dollars yesterday. Awesome, as expected, but stumbling upon bulletproof metal in a mine at the perfect time kinda bugged me. Still, I haven't seen a movie or character with better style than in this one. I might get to watch Fistful of More today and finally get to watch the rest of GBatU on the weekend. That just leaves Seven Samurai. I've watched the movie before, but not my new Criterion version.

RATATOUILLE! XD
Loved it. I regret not paying moneys to go see it on the silver screen now. :/
Oops. I have a correction! My last movie watched was Stargate: The Ark of Truth. ^^ Alas, I can't say I loved it and I really can't say that I regret not paying moneys to go see it at the theater since it won't be released in theaters! XD (Well, maybe they might do one showing as a promotion? Doubt it though!)
Hooray for the Jolly Roger~! (I will buy the movie for sure once it comes out. ^^)

I just saw Ratatouille last weekend, and I loved it. This weekend, I saw Charade (the 1963 version). Not bad at all. A little bit predictable, but it is an old movie and we've all become familiar with what to expect.

I finally got to see Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End over the holidays. I rather liked how they tied that little trilogy up, personally, though I heard plenty of folks didn't much care for it.
All in all; I was rather happy to see the swashbucklin' pirate movies make at least a brief comeback in that set. I rather miss the movies that were just simply made to be fun and not always out to make a deep, dark point, carry a moral message or be a gorefest.

I loved the whole Pirates trilogy. There are better movies out there, but I still enjoyed them. I liked At World's End as well, but not more than Dead Man's Chest, I thought that was the best of the three. Strangely, I didn't think much of the first movie... I liked the 3rd one better than it. I do enjoy fun movies as long as they're done well. I think what I like the most about them is their humor... I usually don't find many western comedy films to be very funny (especially the more popular ones), but I laugh throughout all the pirate movies. Love that cannon midget in the 3rd one oh, and I don't see a fourth one happening. at least not for many years. I don't want to see a fourth one, though... I loved how they ended the third one by coming full circle to when Jack is back where he started. It feels completed and I never got a sense of any setups for a 4th one.

*L* I'm in agreement with Inochi- pirates IV is pretty well unlikely. They tied the story up quite well at the end of the third. Maybe a next generation set, but Jack and other such characters are pretty unlikely to be in it if they DO go that route. I just loved that they were made simply to be pure entertainment. I don't mind a movie that's intended to have some kind of deeper meaning (and occasionally fails epic-style, such as the last two Matrix movies)- but having a just plain fun swashbucklin' adventure is fine by me. Most of them these days are too caught up in trying to play up on societal concerns, the environment, politics or what have you. Or they just want to see how many people they can make sick in the theatre with gory special effects. -_-; My least favorite kind. I hope to find a way to see "I am Legend" soon...I've seen the other two movies made off the same source material and didn't mind them; only their age was the real drawback after being spoiled by movies nowadays. ^_^;

In a fit of boredom today, I watched a movie I haven't in awhile and still love (for all most folks I know consider it a highly acquired taste). Moulin Rouge; the one with Kidman and McGregor. Yes, it's a musical. Yes, it's a freakin' WEIRD musical that looks like it was inspired by the absinthe some of the folks are drinking early in it.
But it's still a great movie.

I love that movie, and its music; or parodies remixes thereof. The ending... not so much. I think I'm just gonna let it stew in my packing boxes for a year, for obvious reasons. It'll put me back at brooding. I'm in my happy zone, I see no reason to step outside of the happy zone. Well, the last movie I saw was Ratatouille. It was actually pretty neat, in spite of my bias against Pixar and Dreamworks; Two animal (Madagascar, The Wild) movies, two fish (Finding Nemo, Sharktale) movies, and two rat (Ratatouille, Flushed Away) movies. Oh, and two anti-fairytale (Happily Never After (I think? It was something along that naming scheme), and Shrek) movies. Yep, I've almost lost all faith in them. Next thing you know, Dreamworks is going to make a toy movie. (Let's not forget there's already TWO by Pixar!)
