I must say, I never expected I'd be surrounded by so many others who can stomach hopelessly sappy movies like that one. Of course, I like that. I think they were trying to make the audience follow The Duke's example in stating "I don't like this ending!". [Long, drawn out story here.] Simply put, you just don't admit to anyone whom you're close with, that you enjoy films like this. [Long rant here.]

The common ones include "The Wedding Date", "Titanic" (I agree with Peter Griffin; why didn't Rose just let Jack on the damn door?), "A Walk To Remember", "The Notebook", "The Lake House" (One of my personal favorites. I myself have a Sandra Bullock thing. I know, she's old enough to be my mom. At least I don't have a Demi Moore thing... Mr. Kutcher, I'm talkin' bout' you, punk!), and countless others that escape my memory. Of course, all of those are going to stew in a box until I decide to just be a man and trade em' in for some quality gaming.

I know a guy who loves Moulin Rouge but refuses to watch it if anyone else is around. *snicker* Cuz he always cries at the ending. I've always liked they were able to go so absolutely nuts in that movie but still keep the original's tragic ending and make it work despite all the craziness on the way to it.
Oddly...I didn't much care for Titanic- I was probably one of the few girls in the audience that was wishing Rose had been the girl hanging from the rail that fell. Guess I'm just not fond of mixing the genre of 'disaster movie' with 'chick flick'. The ship sinking was neat at least; best part in the whole movie.

Beowulf. Can I have that 114 minutes of my life back? Grrrr.

The CG failed to thrill me, and the rampant (pointless) bawdiness thrown in kind of annoyed me. I will grant them credit for sticking reasonably close to the source material AND having a very good cast, however. But personally? They shoulda just made the darn thing wholly live action and kept the CG to special effects stuff. And done away with the rampant penchant for stripping and the like. Hmm, I think Cy goes to see Spiderwick tomorrow. I'll have to find out how she digs it.

Beowulf was incredibly disappointing to me; I saw it in the theatre and was sorely tempted to ask for my money back. >.> It may have been 'true' to source as the story went but all the little 'trimmings' Hollywood put on it just made it awful.
I'm hoping Spiderwick can revive my faith in decent movies at the theatre. =P It's starting to feeling like it's very much NOT worth going there to see them anymore- at least if I rent it and it sucks I'm only out about $5.

Wow, people actually go to the movies? I'm actually very surprised.

Is that uncommon where you live? It's actually really, really common here. Going to the movies is a pretty typical weekend activity, and also the most common thing to do on a date. True and it's a sad thing too. If people didn't go to the movies so much, then maybe studios would realize that some of their movies suck! But NOOOOOOOOOO, people STILL have to shell out their $13+ (or whatever the ticket prices are now) to see crap. :(

Remember, a movie doesn't have to be deep and meaningful to be entertaining. And entertainment SHOULD be why we're going to the movies in the first place! Yeah, but they don't have to painful either. :( I mean, who the heck funds stuff like POSTAL!? There are seriously some movies that are never meant to be made! Or at least put them onto a format that no one watches like Beta. :P

Back from the Spiderwick Chronicles and I have this to say:
<3<3<3 MUCH LOVE. <3<3<3
I honestly liked it far better than the Harry Potter movies; but I also freely admit I'm a sucker for anyone who can take some of the old, long existing faery lore- or much of any lore in concern to magic/what have you- and make it work in a modern setting. They did a lovely job of that in Spiderwick- both in using it in a modern setting and in actually making use of some of it. (Including avoiding the incredibly overdone cutesy, miniaturized winged person image stereotype for faeries.)
Quite tempted to look out for the books now if they're even remotely like the movie.

I just watched this, which is like 50 times cooler than anything else listed in this thread. The best part is when you've heard modern versions of some of these things.

Wyrdwad: now I definitely need to find those books then. And I have to say that was a pretty good adaption if it was covering several books- usually there's plot holes the size of the US in single movie/multibook ventures. -- In another movie review...I just- sort of- got done watching "The Seeker". That is to say- I woke up out of the nap it induced and realized I'd missed a sizable bit...and what I was currently watching of it wasn't that particularly interesting either. So flicked it off; movie done being 'watched'. =P Talk about your skippable movies.

Just got back from Spiderwick Chronicles. OUTSTANDING movie... easily as good as the Harry Potter films, if not better. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoyed any of the Harry Potters. -Tom Just out of interest, what leads you to compare to the Potters? I really liked the books, but wasn't too fussed on the films... I know nothing about Spiderwick, but that comparison has made me at least mildly interested.

The favorite flick among enemies and comrades alike. 300.
Last movie I saw was Spiderwick. I don't even remember if I posted this, but I thought it was funny. My dad wanted to see it for his birthday, he was talking about it for 3 weeks straight. So mom and I went just for the sake of shutting him up. Well... he HATED the movie. Mom fell asleep. ...and I LOVED the movie. XD I thought it was the funniest thing. "Oh, I wanna see Spiderwick, that's gonna be such an awesome movie!" "I hate it!" XD ...and I end up enjoying his birthday movie.
...bah, you had to have been there to understand.

I saw Die Weiße Massai last night. First movie I've watched in a long time.
It was all right. A bit too long though.

I saw Ben X yesterday. It's a good movie about autism. I go to the movie theater at least twice per week (I have a movie pass)
