This would actually be a very good marketing strategy. By holding a contest for best trailer, you'd not only get quality publicity, but further publicity from the contest itself. And it might not even cost you more than a free SE package or something like that. And I don't want to play HJ advocate, as I know he just likes to be ascerbic/offensive Hey, look who's talking. Although I guess it takes one to know one.

Okay, I'm about to go pre-order Chronicles on Amazon, so I just wanted to get something cleared up--the soundtrack and the special box is automatically bundled with the pre-order, correct?
EDIT: Also, I just noticed that Dragon Quest VI comes out the day before this. UGH MY WALLET.

Not an LE per se, but it's going to come with the soundtrack in a box with side-art that lines up with the other two games. So there's that, at least. Hey, that's good enough for me!

Also, FWIW, the manual's going to have a full walkthrough for Ys I in it. Written by me. Ohhhhhh yeah. (: But but but but but ... what about Ys II!?!?!? Is there any way of knowing if Amazon Canada will also have the soundtrack and special box? :o I SUPPOSE I can just order off of Amazon.com again but I really don't want to unless I must. .______________.

hahahahahahahahahaha!!!! That's an awesome story! But isn't that the reason why we love Ys??
I hope it's not REALLY a walk through but just an "Items" Page

If it were up to me there would be a warning label inside the case saying 'Do not play this game if you are too stupid to talk to everyone and listen to what they tell you. Talk to absolutely everyone, we really mean it!''. ;P

Is this the same guy who designs your trailers???
Or just put "RPG" on the case, and scare away people who think that's too difficult. Returning a harmonica eating a seed and talking to a tree may make Zelda puzzles look like child's play, but if people knew that the game had more complicated challenges than "getting out of Altago" they'd know to avoid it from the start.

I'm still not sure how I beat Ys I without a walkthrough.

So what exactly are the advantages of the DS version over the SNES.
I ask because I've been long anticipating playing (and long putting off, obviously) DQVI. Originally I'd meant to play it without having played IV or V, but recently read on Amazon that they constitute a trilogy (which I kind of expect to be a marketing ploy, as DQs are usuallly like the cheese. . . they stand alone. -indicative of a complex-)
Anyway, old man that I am, I prefer SNES grafficks, but if I'll be missing out on anything with SNES, I'd rather play all three on DS. Any edumacation on the DQness would be fantastactical! Thankums!

DQIV-VI are set in the same world and share the same mythology. Vast periods of time have passed between each game though, so most things (including the world map) are pretty different, the main exception being things centered around the mythology. They're all perfectly capable of standing alone, but IV and V are both excellent games, so you might as well play them.
As for why you should play the DS versions... well, they're all in English, unlike the SNES version (unless there are patches I'm unaware of), the graphics are a really nice blend of 2D sprites and 3D environments (they still feel quite retro), and the localization is great in each one. Admittedly I don't know very much about the SNES versions, but the DS versions don't leave much to be desired, so I'd just say go for it.

There are english patches for them. I have the VI rom in English; played a bit of it, but didn't dedicate myself. IV and V were graphically a mess, though (at least to my tastes. They looked more like NES than SNES.) If they stand alone, however, I may just play Iv and V on DS, and do VI the way I've always wanted to.
Thanks for the info.

That should be alright, as long as you don't mind naming inconsistencies. You should check if the SNES version has party chat, because if it doesn't I'd strongly suggest the DS version. Party chat is one of the reasons I loved DQV; it gave the characters so much personality.

Is that anything like the skits in Tales games? That's my first assumption, and if so, you're right, it adds LAYERS of depth to the character interactions. (I think there was something like that in VII, and that was one of my favorite games ever).
Damn. I may just have to play them all on DS. (yes, I realize how odd I am for preferring SNES graphics to more modern graphics. I am a product of the 80s, I need not make sense.)

I've got DQVI, Ys I & II Chronicles, Tactics Ogre and Radiant Historia all to pick up in the span of a week, the first 3 are within 3 days of each other.
Argh, my wallet.
