Making a ttf is more frustrating than I would have thought initially. Thankfully I'm meeting with someone later today who knows more about it. I can post a JPEG of the whole Illustrator font sheet in a bit if anyone's curious as to how the finished product turned out.

NOT PICTURED: A few of the characters (they were off the page I'll go back and screencap them all later. Also I need to change the sa to a za before I put it into the ttf, my bad. Creating a ttf is more tedious than I'd originally thought. I haven't really done any work since Saturday when tancients IMed me about a progress report (school, work etc) but we're gonna get back on it tonight after practice. There are no hangups to speak of though, so hopefully the process will go smoothly from here to the (extremely close) end. If anyone else knows more about ttf files and font making I will gladly email them the .ai file and let them handle the dirty work if they so choose. For now though I will continue progress.

Good catch. Probably wouldn't have noticed those were the wrong ones until I went about putting them into the script files. :x
The Japanese is for the museum entries. For things that originated from Japan, I opted to use their Japanese name as the subtitle for their entries.
In this case, it's Flame Visor from a somewhat obscure (outside of Japan) mecha anime where people pilot Visors.

Yeah, my mistake. It is an easily rectified one though since the kana are much easier to draw

I like the new font Lunar. I think it'll look nice in the game and it'll fun seeing it after it is implemented. Just a few things I'm noticing though is that it seems that a few of the lowercase letters (namely the x an w) are pretty large in size when compared to the other lowercase letters. You can see a bit what I'm taking about here: The second letter (w) looks more like the capital (Z) in terms of size. Just something to consider when making them into the actual font. Also, it may just be me, but some of these seem more slanted -15 degrees than the others. It might still look fine in the game, but it's a bit hard to tell without seeing it typed as a font first. : ) Great job on the mockup so far though! it is is both legible and playful, which would work nicely for the theme in the game. -Thomas

I'll keep those in mind. It's really easy to fix so I'll make that the first order of business when I get off of work later.

Just something quick to share. I've started work on the tutorials (14 files in all) and I've gotten most of the more difficult edits completed such as rebuilding the star image and Zzzzz images that were often overlapped with the original Japanese text, as well as a few buttons here and there. Here's a sample so far: -Thomas

Indeed, I'm impressed! That must be extremely difficult work; do you have to find those locations in-game and try to capture the perfect screenshot, are you redrawing those areas by hand, or is all of the graphical data saved in different layers?! That would be quite challenging if the background were even more dynamic than what it is!

That would be quite challenging if the background were even more dynamic than what it is! Hi Unsavory, All of that is edited by hand in photoshop, mostly by taking "like" textures and background and overlaying them upon areas that have the original Japanese text. And whatever I don't have a similar graphic for, such as in the case of the screenshots, I just used the clone/stamp tool in photoshop to paint over the areas still needing edits. For the Star / Zzzzz in the left-top portion, it was a more challenging process of cutting out all of the Japanese text (large red) on each of the 14 layers (since each one shows more or less of the underlying image) to piece together the underlying image, not unlike a jig-saw puzzle. Of course, once you have those completely built, it is much easier to work with on the other tutorial images since they all use the same background and can then just be simply erased to show the clean (no-text) layer that was created with the 14 images. -Thomas

That's actually pretty neat! I've used Photoshop, though not much. I know there's a huge difference between Adobe and the Jasc alternative. Anyway~ excellent job, all of you!!! Lunar, Thomas, tancients! I can't wait to see it in action!

Thanks guys. : ) It's been fun working on it. Anything to spread more Falcom love and I've been wanting to play Zwei 1 and 2 in English for awhile now especailly since reading how much Wyrdwad has been raving about it. So, this has been a great opportunity to see if I can help the process along as well as an ulterior motive, since I want to uh... play it... in English... yeah. : ) MP83: Ah that's cool. I knew you had worked with NW on that project, but I wasn't sure what parts of the game you edited. That's cool to learn a bit more on what you did for that project. I helped out a little with the Felghana project, but it was only for one small menu .dds file used when exploring the archival menus. -Thomas

So, can one jump into Zwei II without having played the first one? Been wanting to play that one for a while now, but alas, the language barrier!

I don't know what to say about that. It makes me sick, because I am a part of said families, and if 'explicit artwork' prevents my family or any other family from suffering again, then so be it! It's better that it happens to an *ANIMATED* character than someone who is *LIVING BREATHING FLESH*!!! I trust and agree with you, wyrdwad. I know there's a highly marginal difference between you, and an honest to God *REAL LIFE CHILD RAPIST*. I have met one in person. I saw him. I exchanged words with him. He did things to my family that I can't describe for you. :\ He threatened to kill my family. He pulled a gun on my niece and nephew's father. He got ONE NIGHT in jail. He still walks to this day. He doesn't deserve to. I don't want him to. I REALLY don't want him to. In a way that *NOBODY* can understand. But can I DO anything about it? No, I can't. I mean, technically, hypothetically, I could do a LOT about it... but within the boundaries of our crooked judicial system, within the boundaries of our so-called "laws", which do a fucking good job of *PROTECTING CRIMINALS*, I can't do a damn thing! Bullshit written about you like that pisses me off in ways nobody could ever understand, people who have not been through it themselves should NOT try to empathize with those who have truly *BEEN THERE*!!!

So I have to ask (I was not an Ys fan when all this drama happened), why hasn't anyone taken up the mantle and made a complete patch? If nothing else, it'd be nice to have a patch that doesn't call me a warez monkey for patching my legit copy of Oath.
Also, putting that kind of message in a read me instead of giving you proper credit is low class. Then again you actually get paid to work on Ys games now, so I guess it all worked out?

Hi Wheels,
Some folks have distributed the contents of NW's Felghana patch along with an added "Mural Fix", but there hasn't been a single patch created that would fix everything. I still talk with NightWolve on occasion and I believe that he was at least considering releasing a full patch for the game that would still retain the title screen credits and such, but I've not heard much of that since.
I am a friend of NightWolve's but I do not agree with some of his decisions, especially concerning how the patch when run: calls the user a Warez Pirate even if they legitimately owned and have installed the game from disc and who even may have donated money toward the patch project. I've always felt it to be a terrible eyesore or a blight on the eyes for something special that should have been retained as a labor of love from the Falcom community in general...
I can see where Nighwolve is coming from and I would be mad too about how everything went down had I been put in his position, but it is a shame that the patch itself had to suffer due to the leak, especially when there were so many folks involved in its creation. But that's how it is until hopefully one day NightWolve decides to let the past go and release a completed version that doesn't yell anything at the user during he installation process.
I'm sad to hear that Nightwolve felt so passionately about a view of yours Wyrdwad that he would consider that as a necessary factor to be placed in the credits. I do not follow or understand the entire situation behind that nor do I want to question it, but I know you to be a good person Tom, and that was wrong of anyone to thank you for your help by saying terrible things about you.
So, Zwei 2 anyone? : )
-Thomas
