Here's the article: www.joystiq.com/2011/08/05/square-enix-earnings-drop-lack-of-major-title-releases-to-bla/Boy, talk about being blindingly obvious there, guys. When you don't release high-quality, high-profile titles, you tend to NOT make money! Honestly, I think the company needs to stop piddling around and being wishy-washy (which seems to be their favorite thing to do with both KH and FF games) and actually GET GAMES MADE. Which is why, after its predecessor's million years in development, I was genuinely shocked FFXIII-2 is coming out THIS WINTER.

LOL THIS IS GREAT! Arrogance sure has a way of biting you in the rear after a while.
Hey Squeenix! Get back to me when you actually make a game I WANT to play, not just another re-hash of a title because your desperate plot to squeeze money out of an already heavily taxed system.

I never liked any SE game. (Though after many years I was convinced to give FFXII a serious try.)
IMO SE has been _the_ worst game company I have known ever since its existence in terms of product.
I'm SO glad they haven't touched (and thus ruint) the Chrono series. =) Though they were close in CT DS.

I'm SO glad they haven't touched (and thus ruint) the Chrono series. =) Though they were close in CT DS. I'd argue that Chrono Cross nearly destroyed the series, but that's a debate for another day. They aren't the worst company, and I like a number of their games (mostly the FFs from the 16-bit era), and FFT is an amazing game. Sadly, I look back at their catalogue and realize that a lot of the PS1 games they released were utter crap (I think Parasite Eve and a few others still hold up), but they've started to lose focus and become a near-soulless company in recent years. I blame Tetsuya Nomura primarily, because he's honestly ruined a lot of their games with his primadonna way of doing things.

FFs from 16-bit era and FFT are Squaresoft games, not SE. I love those, as well. Which is why I dislike SE very much, and why I'm glad even though FF and Mana games got butchered, the Chrono series survived. (Though the first thing SE did upon arrising, was to cancel Chrono Break. Even if the cancellation happened indeed a bit before SE formally came to existence.)
Edit: I forgot to mention, I think I can relate to your statement saying Chrono Cross ruined the series. Though I do like Chrono Cross. And Radical Dreamers.

Shame The world ends with you sold so poorly in 08. The game felt like a modern SquareSOFT game. One of my fave DS games.

Square has an overall decent PS1 lineup. Some hits and some misses for sure. I think their SNES lineup was a lot better. Enix' Dragon Quest titles appear to be pretty good (have not played many of them). I always enjoyed Lennus for SNES. That has been my personal highlight. ... When they became Squeenix, it's like all they could was merely preserve the worst of both worlds ...

Concurrence! There have been a couple I liked. And I mean that literally. . .
But before the merger, Square was gaming gold. How anyone who likes RPGs could NOT like Final Fantasy 4-7 I have no friggin clue! In fact, my three favorite games are FFVI, FFT, and Xenogears. . . all Square.
And while there were some weaker PS1 titles (I think they tried to branch away from their standard genres a bit too much), even the SNES games that weren't released in the west that I've played were fantastic games. Romancing Saga 3 and Rudra no Hihou REALLY should have gotten an NA release (though I'll admit Seiken Densetsu III is overrated).

Dood! (term of exclamation, not gender appropriation! ) Drop the "Advance" off that title! I haven't even played those because I heard they were "kiddy." Get yourself a copy or ISO of the REAL FFT. Now. BELIEVE ME, the story is not childish. . . not in the least! (second best game plot EVER!)

I love FFT. I play that even today. On the PSP nowadays. I never followed the Mana fanbase, but I'm a huge pre-SE Mana fan. And I personally loved all 3 main routes in Seiken Densetsu III, some more than others. And I happen to be fond of the gameplay system, personally. Legend of Mana is also one of my favorite games ever. When I first played it back when it was released, though, since I was expecting a Seiken Densetsu IV, I initially really looked down at the game. Then finally I gave it a serious try months later and... oh my God. (Also, I deny in my mind SE ever made Seiken Densetsu IV. It's so, so sad to know just what product they labelled as that... SUCH a shame.... >____________________<) I still got a few more Squaresoft games I want to play and finish, though.

At least they've let Mana die quietly after producing a string of so-so games as part of that whole World of Mana thing they had going on. Children could have been a return to their roots in the vein of SoM but instead we got a dungeon crawler with ridiculous bounce physics and SD4... yeah, not going there. Wasn't too impressed with the remake of SD1 either, would rather play that cellphone remake if there was a chance in hell they'd port it to something I could run it on.
Oh, and after Chrono Cross killed off the main characters of the previous game offscreen, I think they killed that franchise as well. Pity because CT is still one of my favorite games ever (the DS port deciding that Guile is Magus and to rub the end result of CC in our faces nonwithstanding) and I rather liked Radical Dreamers. I'd still kill for a 3d Chrono Trigger, or a third game provided that they dropped the cast back to a reasonable number, made everyone useful and, y'know, unkilled Crono, Marle and Lucca.
All that being said, I'm rather looking forward to a couple of their upcoming offerings. FF Type-0 looks like it could be really fun to play and with a setup that takes the military academy feel of FFVIII to its logical extreme and with a story that treats the idea of the characters being involved in a war more seriously than normal. Also, I've yet to see a Kingdom Hearts game I haven't liked in one way or another and my inner child always gets giddy whenever I play.

SD1 (Final Fantasy Adventure) is in my opinion one of (if not THE) finest classic Gameboy titles out there. I consider myself lucky to get it when it was still fairly new. It was good action, a moving storyline, and lots of room to develop and explore. For a portable game, it was BIG and you could easily spend many hours playing it. It was certainly worth the $50 new when it came out. The whole thing with having to kill Amanda to save her little brother actually made it the first game to get me teary-eyed, and I was still a kid back then. I did NOT want to even do that at all, even when it became dangerous to approach her. Still, it was necessary to complete the mission and move on with the game.
It's one of those "Good gaming" memories in my life I don't want to forget. It just left that big an impact on me.

None of you liked The World Ends With You? Really? How? It's a truly amazing game! I have yet to play it, actually. xD Just haven't been looking forward to it much. About this, I was just as much disappointed, since Lucca really got killed off, but the ending of Radical Dreamers IIRC implied Crono and Marle escaped (and thus lived) at least.
It's been REALLY long since I last played Chrono Cross, though, but didn't CC actually never explicitly say that Crono and Marle died?

Actually, I disagree. I love everything Square, Enix, and Squee -- minus Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Samurai Legend Musashi, and Final Fantasy XII. SD1, SD3, Sword of Mana, Final Fantasy I-X, FFT, and Mana May Cry (I'm sorry, SD4) were all pretty good in their own right. Hell, even Crisis Core, Children of Mana, Dirge of Cerberus (although it's not AESTHETICALLY pleasing, and doesn't seem to fit into the FFVII universe, I still give it a pass), Brave Fencer Musashi, Ehrgeiz, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, KH, and KHII were all very good games. I can't speak for the ones I haven't played (Xeno, Bushido, Final Fantasy Legend, SRPG of Mana, FFXIII, or any of the cell phone games) but I'd probably like them.
From the Enix side, I can only speak for the Dragon Warrior/Quest series from I-IV. I got flustered with that one ARPG with the baton-twirling switch puzzles and constant "defeat every monster in every room of every dungeon" mechanic, but I kinda liked that one too. Hell, I even wish I owned some of the DQ Monsters games. I'd probably love the rest!

Well...when they do release something, it is actually good sometimes. Crisis Core was the least offensive of that whole Compilation project and turned out quite good, and for the most part didn't urinate on its predecessor. I disagree with SD3 being overrated, and I've been griping to myself for years over it being passed up for the US. Granted, we know it'll never make it here...but hey, I didn't think LoM was THAT bad. Even though the Mana series as a whole did kinda need to be killed off after that AWFUL PS2 game. FF Type-0 has really taken its sweet time getting made, though, and at this rate, for once I seriously question whether an FF will make it to the US (given the Vita launching in the West early next year). I'm sure it will somehow, perhaps as an updated port for Vita if not on PSP1. But man, FFXIII-2...talk about throwing good money after bad, since FFXIII itself wasn't...shall we say...universally loved, and it makes the same mistakes the first game did.

Dawn of Mana can actually be enjoyed on its own: but labelling it as "SD4" was an unspeakable sin. Though even as a standalone, to me, it was really, really close to passing off as a very mediocre game... Kinda like Ys IV/V PS2: mediocre games, but can still be enjoyed. That's my opinion.

Still haven't played The World Ends With You. I plan to. . . someday. . . but handheld games aren't a priority (even though I play them on a television! ). As for my comment about SD3 being overrated, I simply didn't think it measured up to Secret of Mana. It's been years since I played either, but if recollection serves, SoM had more freedom, and the arsenal of weapons seemed more applicable. Even when SD3 was being non-linear it just felt too linear to me, and I had the distinct feeling it was just a hack and slash rather than an ARPG. //oh, and Crhono Cross had no bloody right to affiliate itself with the Trigger! I suppose it was an alright game on its own, but the attachment seemed to hurt it rather than help it (though it certainly helped sales )

Well, I agree with the Cross/Trigger bit. And hm... never looked at SD2 x SD3 that way... But I guess you have a point, and I think I know what you mean. But I still think it deserves all the praise it gets! (Or at least seems to?)
