That sure is exciting news that Ys is moving toward a new graphics engine. We can only wait for screenshots and trailers next year. I hope you were either speaking in jest or were referring to some source of knowledge other than my post because I was joking.

I hope you were either speaking in jest or were referring to some source of knowledge other than my post because I was joking. Ys VII is going to move to a new 3d graphics engine. It will be the bestest game ever and divide Ys fans into two camps: Those who played I-VI and know that they are the best of Ys and the newbies who only know VII and up who refuse to play 'those old-timer games'. Sarah Toba told me so in a dream. I see what you did there. Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest/etc syndrome, eh? but yeah, Sideshow, there's nothing yet to indicate that Ys VII is going to have a new engine.

the longer it takes to produce, the better the chances are of getting a new engine, since they were already started working on a new game last March while finishing up on the 3rd.
I'm not sure how long it would take Falcom to produce a new 3D engine.

The first video of Xanadu Next was shown in 2003, and it looked rather finished by then. The game came out in late 2004... not sure what took them so long.
The first screenshots of Gurumin were shown in 2002, and it looked rather different by then.
This is further proof why Gurumin and Xanadu Next are Falcom's best games. They spent a lot of time working with them, and they got them both exclusive 3d engines (not like there's anything impressive about that). The Ys and ED games on the other hand are just being pumped out every year with barely no effort at all put into them.

the moment screen shots are shown, the engine is usually finished (except some minor tweaks) and the textures are completed.
many of the mayor developers use the same engine, like the U3 engine.

Are some of you guys saying that they never made a new engine for Ys? Ys VI. And I do believe they took their sweet time with that one. Just like with Xanadu Next and Gurumin, they completely reworked the engine for Ys VI (technically they didn't rework anything for Gurumin because that started it's own series). Yeah, the following games used Ys VI's engine, but if Xanadu Next or Gurumin had sequels I'm sure they'd use their respective established engines again too. In fact I guarantee the next Xanadu and Gurumin will be using those same engines. I don't care if they have to make a new engine to do it or not, the next Ys must be awesome. They might take the extra time end effort to rework Ys again, but I doubt it'll happen with this one. There's still probably a lot of things they've thought of doing with it that they haven't done yet. and it always isn't the case that when screenshots are shown that the engine is finished. I've known of games going back behind the curtain and being completely reworked again. I can't point to anything particular right now, but there's RE4... although I don't think they changed the engine with that, just pretty much everything else. hmm... just wondering, but what would any of you think of a cel shaded Ys? CEL IS THE FUTURE. No game has topped Wind Waker in beauty for me yet (not even Galaxy ), but I can easily imagine one that would...

Yes, Ys VI was new, but then they made FIVE other games using the same engine, and released them only within a few years time. I meant those five games.
I doubt this, as Ys Origin is more or less identical to YsF in terms of gameplay.
I don't like the idea of a cel shaded Ys.
I really liked the look of The Wind Waker when it was new (but I didn't like the game itself), but now the graphics really kill the game for me. The polygon count is ridiculously low.

That's what I'm talking about. Using a similar graphics engine, not art style. I just think cel shading makes the graphics look a lot cleaner and can do some amazing effects. I think it'd help make the artistic look of Ys have even more depth. Anyways, just a thought... it'll likely never happen.

I wonder if Adol is going to be washed up lifeless on a beach again in the next outing? Or at least unconscious in some form with a maiden coming to rescue him.
The bottom line is as long as the music is as catchy as ever then I'll be playing it. Ys is a staple brand in videogames when it comes to music.

Come on, it's as much a part of Ys as the red hair, Adol's mysteriously vanishing equipment right after each adventure and the awesome music. I'll bet you anything if the adventure doesn't start that way, it'll happen at some point. I think III was the only game to not have a sequence like that.

Ys VI ends with Adol leaving in a small boat. This can only mean trouble followed by adventure.
ONLY!

This time he'll be hit by a storm and lightning will crash his boat and he'll wash up on some weird as hell island with a giant egg and in the end it'll turn out to be just a dream.

Perhaps the next game will be about the curse that Poseidon has clearly placed upon Adol's lineage.
Alternately: Perhaps he will board a huge ship going to the arctic.

BETTER QUESTION: will Adol ever get married in the official time line? I know there is a fan game or something where his marriage is mentioned, but nothing official so far. and who will it be? so many girls to choose from
